Very raw and earthy. The story is very humane and resonant. Themes of family dynamics, trauma, and mental illnesses were the undertones and the most spectacular thing was wang zi wen and fang yinās characterization; not exaggerated yet conveyed the realism and melancholy of each very lucidly. The symbol of the pigeon, the bird chirping inside each one of them was eloquent we all have birds inside us that we need to unleash. I found myself tearing at several intervals, itās about closure and atoning, itās about this realization that strikes us at the least expected moments and enlighten us. The nude color palette that conveys a tedious, monotonous mood or the lingering psychological condition of each soul also depicts how life is tasteless and devoid unless we invite springs forcefully, as we humans decide to dwell in sorrow or lookout to sunlight, and this is the whole message to awaken. 9/10
1) The romance was very steamy in the first half and you felt it was leading somewhere, but it virtually disappeared…
I think this time flip is intentional, its a conscious choice by the script writer to emphasize the chaotic atmosphere caused by the inability to control fate and inner struggles of the characters.
This was such a nice and masterfully written show that conveyed multiple themes concerning the human condition. Zhang Bin Binās acting was very, very exquisite and nuanced. I'm in awe of his ability to portray each persona differently without merging or mixing them with each other. His characters were the spotlight of the show and the most consistently and profoundly written (yes, the rest didn't have this psychological depth as him); each persona realistically could be relatable! Lu Li symbolizes our loss of innocence; he depicts our core that thrives for simplicity and normal life, yet the turbulence of reality sways it eventually :( the writer tries to depict him as Lou Ge's illusion and hidden unfulfilled desires. Lou Ge portrays humansā everlasting struggle with finding purpose. This is his existential crisis alongside his quest for self-discovery that metaphorically seems like an unending tide; each peak is a moment of anagnorisis. From self-alienation to self-acceptance and development, Lou Ge is a lesson for all of us. He literally embodies and symbolizes the moon in all its phases. The evil spirit emphasizes the conflict between inner desires and the consequences of how we deal with them. I appreciate how his complex is built up and how the writer unveils all these layers painfully (ā„ļ¹ā„). Lou Ge finally finds the purpose of his existence, and this realization is very shocking. Overall, the show smoothly develops until ep 24, where the focus drifts to the demon world (which was really unnecessary and very superficial); the plot picks up again in ep 35. If you want to watch this show, please watch it while paying keen attention to details and symbolisms because this isnāt a mere love story; in fact, love is just a catalyst. And yeah, donāt forget to grab tissue papers cz youāll cry a lot!
looking back after finishing the show, Mao Xiao Tong and Zhang bin bin were the perfect candidates for these characters I cannot imagine anyone else acting Sibie and Qin nan other than them. The dimensions of this drama are exquisite tapping on existential and social crisis, in addition to family dynamics
His acting in light beyond the reed was a master class he portrayed a very complex character and an emotionally charged one, Zhang bin bin you deserve an award for this role bravo!!
finally got out of Jiaxing who gave him roles he never wanted in the first place
oh ok i didnt know he was in an agency before but good for him now he's starring in more engaging roles and have more liberty. I'm new to the fandom and only watched 6 of his works but he has really impressive capabilities
finally got out of Jiaxing who gave him roles he never wanted in the first place
what is Jiaxing? is it an agency or what? on the contrary I really sensed that over the past two years he's been choosing very versatile roles starting with live surgery room, the blossoming love and now light beyond the reed and I predict that his upcoming drama in 2026 will also be a good one
Thank you for sharing š š Iāve never felt such a strong need to read the novel itās based on until watching…
I read the novel like 3 months ago and when Iām watching now how these words are transitioning into a visualised narrative the effect was more profound on me as the depiction has bestowed another dimension to the story, itās really impressive. I advice u to read it and I hope that youāll have a rich experience reading and watching itš
So far enjoying every minute of this show, and the actors are really doing great job in immersing me.. Zhang bin bin has developed radically (I always liked his acting but here itās more humane) as well for Mao Xiao she is living her character, what a nuanced portrayal! This show def gonna be my top 2025 show
