right! my current theory is something like... wanning kept going after him when he was in the palace, but she couldn't force him into having an affair & leaving XFF. so then she uses his mother to deal with XFF, and SYR values his mother & sister above all (most likely bc of the burden his father left with his death). i don't really think that /he/ is the one going after power. i think his mother forced him into a corner.
this idea isn't excusing his actions, tho-- he obviously had many choices he could have made and he chose the worst ones bc of his cowardice & fear of wanning (he saw firsthand what she did to XFF's family). he is such an interesting character to me... so i really want to figure him out! of course i could be totally wrong. maybe it really is as simple as it seems, ex: he wanted more power so he had an affair.

yeah, i was thinking about that scene too, but looking at it from another perspective... it could have just been something she did to provoke XFF. since we already know that SYR is a coward, it would also make sense for him not to retaliate against her for trying to cause a misunderstanding.
i'm willing to believe wanning's reasoning for going after SYR, it seems pretty typical for a character like her. but, i'm still not clear about SYR's side of things.. obviously he chose his family over XFF, but how did they get to that point? i'm starting to guess that maybe wanning was in contact with SYR's mother and was the one pushing things forward, even though that totally goes against her husband's dying wish lol.
i am also morbidly curious about how the relationship developed between wanning and SYR... was there actually an affair? or was wanning's item planted? idk! i'm still so confused! hopefully they gives us more and don't just leave it like that 😔 i'm starting to feel like he does love XFF, but he's just a /huge/ coward and would still put his mother & sister first.

it's just an assumption bc of the looks situ's brother was giving them. they spent too much time on that scene for it to mean nothing, imo. but i imagine XH will shoot it down if it's ever suggested... he's a very loyal man 🤣
Cause they have to rush everything since the ending episode is around the corner. They don't have much time left
overall, i'm quite happy with this show because i love the revenge plotline, characterization, acting, & chemistry between XH and XFF. but it has many faults in terms of writing (ex. unsure of what tone it wants to take, abruptly introducing things) and obvious issues with pacing & editing. it kind of seems like they got in over their heads with how much source material they were working with 😅
I think the screenplay is directing viewers to witness a way out for her ex husband by showing us how his father…
that's definitely what's happening here, they're trying to force us to feel sympathy for him... which makes me kind of worried about his end now. maybe they aren't planning on killing him 😪
