To everyone who is saying, we are painting a target on Yi Cheng without a reason, and making Lu Feng the victim of their relationship, PLEASE READ this passage from the book, declared by Yi Cheng himself.
"Lu Feng, Lu Feng ……”
He who feared that he will be abandoned by me if he loses his status, he who has given up his family business to be with me, he who has travelled a long way only to find out that he will never get to see me again, he who is penniless and struggling to support himself, he who hasn’t had me by his side for decades, he who has been looking for me over and over again…….
Only to finally learn that I married the daughter of a wealthy man, had a child and lived a happy family life with her …… and that the only one who suffered through years of heartache is him alone.
He who stood by my bed for an entire year …….
He who accompanied me throughout my recovery, watching me quietly through the glass door alone outside the ward.
He who comes rain or shine to the bookstore every night to wait for me.
He who sat quietly in the hotel lobby.
He whose arm got caught in the car door and was dragged alongside the car ……
He can also feel pain. And I actually did not realize it until now.
I only knew how to feel sorry for Zhuo Lan, for Wen Yang, for my brother…….
But only hate for him.
And never once did I say sorry to him.
Never once did I ask myself what I should repay him with for twenty years of loneliness and pain.
“Lu Feng …… Lu Feng ……”
I wept for his wasted youth, for his bruised heart, and for the love that he was bereft of that I took for granted.
I don’t give a crap anymore. Nothing and no one is going to stop me from loving this man. Not Wen Yang, Zhuo Lan, Yi Chen or Qin Lang. Not for pride, backbone, hate, or guilt …… All these will be tossed out of my head.
My most precious person, he has already become as lamentable as this, what else is there that I cannot willingly forsake for him?
What can be more important than sheltering him from more pain?
In my heart I retract all the bad things I ever said to you. I should have given you hugs instead of cold eyes, communication instead of condemnation. I want to give you back the love I deprived you of, the promise of happiness we made to each other, the years that we wasted being apart. I just wish to be by your side, so that I can.
Sooooo, I’m just going to say this and then run away., because this might be a unpopular opinon I get that everyone…
Really. You shouldn't label. You should take into account circumstances and actions which led to certain reactions.
(You wouldn’t poke a wild beast, and then wonder, why you got attacked?)
Lu Feng was a dangerously obsessive, territorial, jealous, crazy, unhinged bastard from the beginning when it came to Xie Cheng. And Xie Cheng totally knew and acknowledged that.
And yet, he provoked, antagonized this dangerously obsessive, territorial, jealous, crazy, unhinged bastard by telling him that he has slept with numerous men, and all of them were better than him.
Maybe Lu Feng's supporters went silent about the assault, because they read the novel, and knew the circumstances that led to certain reactions.
Having said that, at the end of day, it's a fictional love story between two very damaged men ( caused by their own loving family members) that spread over more than two decades.
novel readers, how much time has passed since the breakup -> Xiao Chen getting married to zhuo lan -> the…
In the novel, Yi Cheng's mother was already dead, when Yi Cheng married Zhuo Lan. (The very reason, I never got, why he did it? His mother already passed away, it was tragically pointless for him to marry her.)
And he actually didn’t break up with Lu Feng. He ensured Lu Feng that he's gonna be there and wait for him, and then while Lu Feng traveled to the USA to renounce his inheritence, Yi Cheng just up and left him, and got married.
In the novel, it must not have been more than mere weeks after his mum passed away, because he disappeared while Lu Feng was in the USA, and he was there only like for 2 weeks. Can't really remember.
It’s what I need to know as well, because Yi Chen was adamant about his decision to leave Lu Feng behind and…
Exactly. Yi Cheng never chose Lu Feng. And he was always so spineless, so quick to blame and judge him for everything, and so gulible and easily manipulated by others against Lu Feng, that sometimes while reading the novels back then, I was so annoyed and angry at him, that I just really wanted to punch him, to beat some backbone into him.
I decided to rewatch Double Helix with a more open and less prejudiced mind. It actually turned out to be a enjoyable…
I actually believe in the series, they did try to justify Yi Cheng's decision to marry Zhuo Lan, by him wanting to please his terminally ill mother. While, if you read the novel, you might remember the fact, that his mother was already dead when he just up and left Lu Feng and got married. Doing so, after he DID promise Lu Feng to wait for him to get back from the USA, and he DID ensured Lu Feng that they gonna be together. While in the series they made him break up with Lu Feng. So, I don't really think they tried to paint him as a villain, quite the opposite, because in the novel his abandonment and betrayal of Lu Feng and their promises to eachother, was much-much worse and just plain pointless.
After scrolling through comments I just decided to come again and add my two cents . Most people are saying that…
OMG, Yes... Yes... You said it. I always hated the fact that Yi Cheng was a weak, easily gulible person who absolutely lacked a backbone. He always-always chose others and others' wishes over Lu Feng, and let himself be constantly manipulated by others. He never sacrificed a thing for their relationship and never stood up for Lu Feng nor for himself. Here in the series they even actually made up an excuse for him, why he abandoned Lu Feng, and got married. While in the novel he did promise Lu Feng, that he was gonna wait for him till he got back from USA and they gonna be together. And despite knowing that Lu Feng went to the USA to renounce his inheritence in order to be with him, he just up and left Lu Feng, and married Zhuo Lan. And he didn't even had the excuse, that he did it to please his mother, because in the novel his mother was already dead. Honestly, I never got it, why he did it?
You can defend Yi Cheng and his decision as much as you want, but in my opinion he was a spineless, weak, people pleaser, who never stood up for Lu Feng, and was totally, absolutely undeserved of Lu Feng's unabated love. His mother was an egoistic, superficional, shallow bitch, who constantly emotional blackmailed her children and didn’t give a shit about their happiness. And Yi Cheng's brother was a hypocritical piece of shit, who actually had a crush on his own brother and did everything he could to tear and keep Xie Cheng and Lu Feng apart.
