I watched the sub version and it says every day not year, unless the sub is incorrect. His heart is basically dead and his eyes look empty. There's a line in the novel that describes the ML "buried in the world" something like that (not sure if true)

I think ML lives at Medicine Valley, at least that's what it says in the drama. He says he drinks whine with her there every day for decades and his alcohol tolerance is on the same level as her now in episode 32
I understand that when some people refer to chemistry, it may be perceived as physical touching (hugging and kissing)…
I'm pretty sure the emotion connection between them is rather deep. They both know the feeling they have for each other is mutual without confessing, even the girls around them know. It probably started when the FL let go of her first love and move on.
The thing is they both have things they have to do before love so their love build up slowly and it kinda makes sense.
Their love is so pure in this drama, and I love it, I disagree with people who said they don't have chemistry. It's just how the story is written. A genius way to tell a love story without lots of hugs and kisses.
