Was cute-ish and well acted till the leads got together and then there was nothing more to the show but they still dragged it out for another 4-5 episodes. It would have been much better with12-14 episodes. It unfortunately got really boring fast after the leads get together.
TBH I think the ML did a much better job in One Spring Night. In that his eyes were more intense with emotions. FL was pretty much the same as all her dramas. Apart from Alchemy of Souls I find her to still not completely get into character, she always comes off as a little cold in all of her roles. This is just my opinion though.
I also felt the leads had great chemistry till they kissed and then it was so lukewarm from then onward for me. I really like the 2FL she acted really well and was written in a way that made you admire her.
I know a lot of people hated the mom, and yeah she was annoying but tbh in terms of Kdrama moms she wasn't half bad. I could sort of sympathise (although not agree) with her. Ms Park Ji Young acted really well, it was just that she wasn't written that well.
Poor sound production but otherwise a really cute drama to watch, quick and easy. The leads had good chemistry, ost was nice, but like others have said, the male antagonist really steals the show. He has both amazing comic timing as well as can be really horribly evil. This is one of the better acted, has a plot - worth the watch- mini drama.
Short decent drama for a quick fix. If you are looking for something quick and easy to watch, this may be right for you, just don't think too hard about the plot (it's held together by a thread). The main leads had great chemistry and had semi-decent acting.
Thanks for the great article!! I love watching these mini dramas to get out of a slump or if i don't have time but need a quick fix. Even the dumb dumb ones can be fun at times.
I just finished and totally agree! They went way too hard in trying to make it melodramatic in some scenes that…
I know, the director needs to learn to tone it down and take advantage of the actual dramatic parts of a story. I knew the romance wasn't big because I had briefly glanced through the comments there however I didn't expect it to be that lukewarm. My biggest gripe was the main revenge being too slow to the point where it made me just not care what happened to anyone in the end.
It's unsophisticated, don't try to pretend there's an educational aspect to this series.
It lead me to read about Unit 731 so I would say it did educate in a sense. I am not commenting on the series but rather why a director needs to defend talking about what happened during that war (regardless of how well it was presented- of which we have differing opinions on the drama).

"Those captured by the US military were secretly given immunity.[11] The United States helped cover up the human experimentations and handed stipends to the perpetrators."- unsurprising yet completely disturbing. Still what the states are doing till today.
Both these articles are triggering so for other's who come across the above comment- click with caution. It is nightmare inducing stuff, more than any fictional drama produced by Netflix.
Not sure what the issue is if it was anti-Imperial Japan and not against modern day Japan? Japan, like every other country that tried to oppress others (including the States, Gitmo anyone?) has committed horrible war crimes, which includes human experimentation? Instead of pretending that didn't happen or brushing it under the rug, it's better to talk about the horrors of these incidents so we can remember to not let them happen again. And it's clear we need these reminders seeing as what is currently happening in the world.
Can anyone let me know who is this princess Wan Ning? What is her relationship with the emperor? Why is she such…
From my understanding, she's the emperor's twin sister and one of the main antagonists. I haven't finished this drama (and I doubt I will) but it seems like she was sent away to another country as a hostage so she uses that as a reason to do whatever she wants, and the emperor can't fight directly against her because she has "previously suffered".
Got as far as episode 32. I have to say the acting and story isn't bad, however it's just too dragged out with too many filler side quests that really made me lose interest in the original revenge story. The romance between the leads also so far is lukewarm at best (and at 32 they still aren't together).
The cinematography whilst beautiful is overly dramatic. I feel the director just loved too many dramatic angles of the same shot a bit too much. It's a great shot if used once every few episode but this was every single episode the multiple angles and close ups. It took away from the acting quite a lot.
If this was 30 episodes, with less characters and less side plots that were taking too long to complete I would have really liked this drama more. It just dragged on to the point where I didn't care about whether she got her revenge or not.
First half was great, second half was mess with the FL getting more and more useless and stupid as the story progressed. Really don't understand why writers shoot themselves in the foot like this. I basically skipped through the last 3rd of this drama.
This can be skipped to be honest, the second half made me feel like I wasted the better half of the night watching this.
Good at the start and then completely lost it's plot which is a same because the production value was pretty good. If you are here for the romance (like I was) you'll be disappointed. There's little of it and it began to feel like the FL had more scenes with everyone but the ML. Skip this one.
Very toxic at the start and then suddenly changes tone, a messy plot but the acting was really good and the chemistry between the leads. Fun to watch if you don't want to think but can be a little triggering with the toxic male lead at the start.
