there are a lot of zombie movies and series with a concept of person getting turned into zombie but holding humanity/brain capacity. some even go as far as making the zombie/human have psychic powers. you can watch znation, gakkou gurashi, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress if you like that concept. it has got less to do with mindset more to do with genetic/immunesystem/brain co-ordination.
