I guess my pessimistic nature wasn’t satisfied with just those hints, if I am not being shown a good ending I would just assume there is no good ending. Especially since as you said it is a realistic drama and in reality we are all trying but most of us get rewarded with nothing for our efforts, nevertheless the drama has a positive turn and all the plot lines are directed towards a happy ending, it’s a shame for me that we only get to briefly see the main plot line get resolved.
As for the romantic part, i know it’s not a romantic drama but just like real life, romance is heavily involved, i just found funny that the two directors shared a “kiss” on screen but the supposed main couple didn’t, i could argue Dongman only has a deep platonic love for Eun A, as a muse for his work and a companion during hard times and struggles. I much preferred the way Gyeong se and Hye Jin relationship was portrayed.
Anyway I understand the main focus of the screenwriter was the struggling part, but am i asking to much if i want to see just one more episode of them living happy ever after since you decided to choose that finale? XD Might have been a production issue or a writer’s choice, anyway i still think it’s a good series and my score reflects that, probably the best one i have seen of this genre
