such an UNEXPECTED gem - totally blown away by its plot twists!!!
To be frank, I wasn’t that excited when I saw the trailers but HOLY MOLY was I very wrongggg! This drama captures everything; solid storyline, unexpected plot twists, amazing (and some even dangerous) stunts, perfect acting, wonderful chemistry among the actors, and beautiful OSTs!
Hou Minghao’s acting is completely at another level here. His eyes and body language conveyed so much emotion and story that brought Xiao Wuyi to life. Every time Xiao Hou plays a character, he puts 1000% of his heart and effort into it, from paying attention to tiny details and doing the difficult and dangerous stunts by himself. A lot of respect for Xiao Hou 🤍
That said, I was pretty surprised at Ai Mi too cos she nailed at portraying Xie Jiayu beautifully. Now I understand why she got casted and there’s just no one who could play Xie Jiayu better than her 🧡
What I absolutely love about KTTPH is that this drama gives you a deep understanding of life and why people act in the way they do. It helps you understand and see dedication, compassion, love, evil, suffering from all perspectives through different stages of life. The actors played their characters so well and it was heartwarming to see Riley and Xiao Hou together again - both have grown so much since BTTB 😍
And comes the OSTs!!! Since LITC, this is the second drama where I fall in love with each and every of the song listed. I still get goosebumps whenever I listen to Xiao Hou and Zhang Bichen’s heavenly harmonies in Scorching Light - my absolute favorite at the moment. The editing team did such a fantastic job rolling the songs into the scenes that you enter their world completely.
I gain so much strength from Xiao Wuyi because he defined himself and stood his ground firm, with his own values and beliefs, regardless of what people say. In a world full of judgment, defining your own character is super important in order to not get influenced and lost easily. With General Xiao Wuyi by your side, you’ll be able to see light more from within even when you’re in the dark.
Thank you Xiao Hou, Ai Mi, Riley and all the team and crew members for gifting us with the BEST DRAMA OF THE YEAR. Key to the Phoenix Heart is definitely on my rewatch list 💯
