Typical Workplace Drama

I am fond of modern Chinese dramas and I felt this is actually good to some extent.

Dylan Wang as Shi Yan gave major CEO/ Boss vibes. He actually managed to look like an investor. His expressions added the cherry to the cake. His aloofness and cute jealous moments made me laugh hard. However, certain aspects of his character don't seem to gel well with the plot. His sense of aesthetics really amazed me. I am happy with the makers for not turning Shi Yan into a rude, toxic hero but rather a cute, responsible hero.

Bai Lu as Zheng Shuyi felt the same as Jiang Jun from Love Is Sweet. But the only modification here is, that her initiatives felt cringe. I understand that Shi Yan is the youngest top CEO, but she is also a journalist for Finance Magazine. Her work revolves around Finance and Entrepreneur Leaders, yet she was fangirling him like some school girl which truly felt weird considering the fact that she is a professional. It felt like the script was forcing the scenes of Financial Introduce and emphasizing repeatedly that she is a pro financial journalist, we were considering her to be a stalker fangirl!!

Miles Wei and Shen Yu Jie really surprised me with their chemistry. I am glad to finally see Miles Wei having a very satisfying chemistry with a female costar after so long. Shen Yu Jie had her cute moments and in one line, SHE NAILED IT!!!! Her character transformation was undoubtedly one of the most satisfying parts of the show. They deserve their own drama as a lead couple.

Liu Dong Qin and Jiang Pei Yao's Guan Ji and Bi Ruo Shan started as mature characters, but their perspectives on each other and relationships in general really made me concerned. It felt like their characters were kinda forced to be together by scriptwriters not because they were in love, but rather because they were best friends of the main couple. So the only thing they could do to the storyline was to drink with the main couple when they were upset and be together. That's it!

As far as chemistry is concerned, this drama is 95% extra content and only 5% chemistry which to be honest feels like those old Chinese dramas. No strings and emotions whatsoever attached. By chemistry, I don't only mean the couples but also the characters sharing relationships with each other. The story starts after Episode 31. So in my humble opinion, start straight from Episode 31, but then again not practical.

PROS
# The settings and set of the drama. The visuals were captivating.
# Side characters had their significant scenes where they just nailed it.
# Yu Yao and Qin Shi Yue's story
# Mutual Understanding between Shi Yan and Zheng Shu Yi.

CONS
# The storyline's pace was absolutely not justified at all. Better start from Episode 31.
# Lack of chemistry between all characters. Never felt like these characters knew each other from the beginning.
# Not the kinda modern drama you expect with veterans like Wang Hedi, Bai Lu and Miles Wei. Only the characters look good.
# Could have made Bai Lu look more professional. She looked like she could toss her career out for Shi Yan, if not for her repeated statement, "Career is career, Life is life."

Luo Yunxi's yet another medical drama

I was interested in this drama mainly because of Luo Yunxi. He is unarguably one of my favorite Chinese Actors. Well unpopular opinion, I am comparing this drama of his to Children's Hospital Pediatrician, where he played the lead role of Dr. Shen He. Gu Yun Zheng was portrayed as a mature, sensible, and professional doctor but his love story with the Female Lead, Su Wei An felt shallow. It was not clear why he fell for his student. Unlike Shen He who even though might not be as mature as Gu Yun Zheng's character at least showed a thread for his relationship with Female Lead. So even though I am a hardcore LYX fan. I couldn't understand his character dynamics and felt it was way too typical.

This was my first Zheng Ruonan drama, and I had a very lukewarm reaction. Her chemistry with LYX falls flat thanks to the weird cold face she carried throughout the episodes. At first, her character looked interesting in Lacaya. but when she left GYZ alone and went to China, her character just got unpredictable. \\ LYX's sunny smile was completely splashed by ZRN's constant cold expressions. Even though her character arc was slightly better. I still feel it was not justified. However, I still felt that she gave life to Su Wei'an and did not confine her character to just a terminally ill patient.

Merits:-
1. Medical terms used in research and surgery were accurate and felt authentic.
2. The survival stories in Lacaya were very inspiring and brought tears to my eyes.
3. Huntington's Disease and various other rare diseases were explained beautifully. Patients' dismay, the emotional quotient of families, and the lack of funds for research on these medicines were depicted accurately.
4. The medical camp in Lacaya even though felt like a cliched medical drama still managed to strike a chord of intrigue.
5. The story felt realistic and I am glad the makers did not make it a perfect life drama.

Demerits:-
1. Shallow storyline and dialogues. The interactions of the MC especially in romantic scenes felt so weird.
2. The weird doctors and pharmaceutical company Jiehui believed in money more than patient welfare.
3. Du family's shallow characters apart from Grandfather. It felt like any other drama you can see. Also, Wen Ran's scenes were skippable.
4. Lack of chemistry between all characters. Not just talking about couples. In general, the relationships shared by the characters felt fake which obviously gave no emotional attachment.

Watch Only If-
1. You are interested in watching a research-based medical drama. The scientific terms were so authentic.
2. You admire Luo Yunxi. Despite the odds, he managed to add life and soul to his mediocrely written character.
3. You are curious about the medical camps, aids given to research, and gene-based diseases.

How to destroy a novel with the drama adaptation

I love Ye Fei Ye's novel Bringing Nation's Husband Home and really had some high expectations with this drama. But it was a pure disappointment. They did very unwanted changes in scenes and ruined the flow of the entire original storyline. LEADS DON'T HAVE CHEMISTRY AT ALL.

#Acting
I loved Dylan Xiong's acting as Lu Jinnian. In fact, I feel that he was made for this role. His assistant was also played by a good actor. Sierra Li as Qiao Anhao and Song Xiangsi were completely melodramatic and nonsensical. They were literally showing that they are faking it all. The backbone of the drama Qiao Anhao was a disappointment.

#Ending
The open-ended ending is not a sad one. Watch Pretty Man 2 for the final ending.
