Don’t skip. She is very interesting. I do understand the impulse to skip but her behavior has huge consequences and if her brother, the emperor, doesn’t kill her it means that she is a power to be reckoned with.

Most viewers think he was the most villainous but wanning was psychotic. He wasn’t at first The way xff and duke Su pushed him explain why he behaved so erratically by the end. The fact he tells her that he loves her despite having buried her alive shows a disconnect with reality.

Wanning destroying him even further by using the dagger does not make her more grey. It makes her even more darker than she is. Him killings himself so that she would feel guilty - obviously she doesn’t- doesn’t make him greyer either. It makes him also darker.
As for her identity not being disclosed, is it that important? She avenged both herself and jiang li. Isn’t that more important than shouting on the roof tops that she took over her life ?
In the novel the princess told her had she been born in a better family, she would not have been able to kill her take away her husband. XFF took this to heart. Being reborn in jiang li’s body and thus the second daughter of the chancellor helps her achieve this.
And I am not seeing where there would be an issue to transpose it in modern drama except it would not be a political setting. Probably a corporate setting . It would be easier. There’s been a bunch of modern dramas with doubles taking over after a death without any issues. But what makes this show work is because it’s a costume drama. As a modern drama it would be less interesting.

Jiang li jumped in the lake because she had just learnt that her engagement was stranger red to her half sister and she was mad. She didn’t die. Her step mother was monitoring the situation hoping for the worst which finally happened.
For some reason the censor has forbidden transmigration,in tv diction(time travel is also forbidden it it’s less strict and there have been shows where there is time travel) so they changed the entire premise to use a double In the novel there is no double. Even tong’er is unaware that it’s not jiang li despite her very different behavior after waking up.
