Wasted Potential
This drama started out great with a promising premise. A young girl with a difficult childhood and her sister who chose different paths; a kind but outwardly harsh orphan who was shown some love by a kind lady and struggled hard to find success; a brilliant, kind, lovable nerd who was socially awkward, struggled with imposter syndrome and pressure from parents.
The setup was the start-up world and the possibilities were endless. There was so much they could have done with that premise.
Besides the cinematography, music and acting, few good scenes sprinkled throughout and one relationship (the grandma and the orphan boy/man) that was absolutely heartwarming, everything else went downhill very soon.
I expected to see how the sisters learn from each other (one on how to be more pragmatic and the other on how family is important too), how the brilliant nerd finds his self confidence and how the orphan learns to trust and let go of his abandonment issues.
The story turned into a cliche love triangle and all that was good about the show was lost with it. Instead of focusing on the growth of said characters in a realistic way, they focused on stringing viewers along through a badly written and completely unnecessary love triangle that did not even make sense.
The characters started being inconsistent. The writing was sloppy. They rushed certain characters without proper arcs and spent inordinate amounts of time on non-essential storylines or character moments.
I also had a problem with the message this show was trying to pander. This idea of "sailing off without a map" without a plan B and C is reckless. They presented a romanticized view of the world which I am in complete disagreement with. Yes, you should take risks but they should be calculated risks.
Lastly, they wanted us to root for the main leads but as the show went on, it was extremely difficult to root for the main leads due to how problematically they were written. So it all felt very forced and inorganic.
The only reason I continued watching the show was because of one character (HJP) and his interaction with the grandma.
The show left a very bad taste in my mouth. There were so many issues with the show that I am not going to get into it all in here but overall, I will not recommend this show to anyone.
