Sometimes it's understandable when the context is kept in mind n sometimes we have no idea what's going on.The movie is not as entertaining like part 1 but the cinematography n art style are much prettier. Love affair , look alike characters,ghost , eroticism are few common themes in both the movies. The movie is about writer who meets a two women n have love affair with them, one of which may or maybe not be the second wife of his patron or maybe she is a ghost ,there are few scenes where he meets a look alike of one of the women n have sex with her. If u are into artistic movies n enjoy riddle solving but in the end get yourself tangled then this one is for u.This is even more difficult to grasp than first one but less haunting.

The acting is strong by both the lead actors. This movie is brutal,If u r already depressed n hate society enough don't watch it right now. I highly recommend this.

The two main characters are engaged in subtle love affair with each other's wife n with other people n deaths of many people around them ,they both are close to each other as the MC always helped his friend. He is confused whether he is dreaming n his memory is hazy, he is confused n try hard to reveal the truth n the ending scene was even confusing.
It was mysterious, horror(a little bit though) n comical at times with love triangle of three blind beggars n their obscene songs. Overall it was a fun watch. I'll continue with the other two parts as well.
Thought provoking, impactful, heartwrenching n tragic story about a family that faced extreme conditions one after another in the midst of slavery system n oppression of government . More than social commentary the movie focused on humanity n redemption arc . The scene where Anju heard her mother's lamenting through the young girl was really impactful.
I think giving away his kid's bike n wife's necklace were extreme n it felt like brainwashing that how crazy the guy became,he was just lucky tht those kids were nice it could have been a scam .No one should go beyond their capacity for helping others it's impractical n self destructive.
It was a good movie, reminded me a little of Madadayo. Everything has good n bad aspect.I Don't have a very good feeling about this movie bcz of my experience with charity but that time n people were very different compared to today. The film isn't touching or emotional but it's engaging,i liked it.
In my opinion the finale was the best.This is why I love Masaki san's direction as he depicts the moral dilemma,humanism n deep psychology in a sophisticated way ,m not going to compare but his direction really reaches my heart.Especially with Tatsuya Nakadai as actor. Although kanji is the same warrior of justice he is not as idealistic as before,he lives in reality. His acting was the strongest in this film ,I really felt the tiredness, helplessness n depression of the MC n how desperate he was . The narrations were to the point ,few scenes were poetic n melancholic. This dint make me cry but the whole series is adventurous.These 9-10 hours were truly worth it I hope more people watch this.
Kaji's a survivor.He is like any other modern Japanese man who doesn't want war n wants to go back to his wife but he goes through major changes in this part.I like the transformations in his character,he is still the same idealistic n strong person but he will do whatever he has to do to survive.This part isn't as good as the first part was i was still completely engrossed in it. The war scenes were bit boring bcz it's not a war movie but a detailed study of the character ,still the soldiers behaved very untrained.
Quirky,fun, creative n adventurous movie about a dreamer boy n his journey through kidnapping where everyone is obsessed with his exams, which is very Asian. Liked the nostalgic 90s vibe,ambience n soundtrack.
Plot is set in WW2 n revolves around the MC named Kaji who is like one of us, afraid to take a stand, afraid to go to frontline in war but he is also very idealist n pacifist that he doesn't want POW to suffer in the hands of capitalist managers who only think about their profit n kill the innocent prisoners every chance they get.
It's interesting to see Kaji's sufferings, inner conflicts n transformation throughout the story till the end.Hence ,the psychological tag.The movie is humanistic like other of Masaki san's movies.
I wouldn't say it's a best film but we will see the conditions during war from japanese perspective,it was still very mild compared to what Japan actually did in the past so anyone can watch it regardless of age.
Only problem is the length,which is justified bcz there was nothing that could be cut short as it is based on 6 volume novel so i would suggest to watch it in free time bcz the series is very long around 9 and a half hour ,like any other jdrama.

Still don't get why people say Japanese actors are bad at acting, no idea what they watching.

It had yurigokoro vibe at first, i loved the first half so much but second half went downhill bcz of draggy n irrelevant contents which added nothing to the main plot. Erika Toda is an amazing actress no matter what role she plays whether it's comedy n dark roles, she may not look very pretty as other jap actresses but her acting is her strong point , it's not easy to maintain the balance n be versatile. In this movie itself, her character was really flexible.
