I loved the opening to ep7. That quote from Lolita sounded so sinister and unsettling, it pushed my imagination…
I never read Lolita so I am unfamiliar with the entire story. I did had to look it up as I was curious as to why PS was reading it.
The mutual burning of each other between PS and LWZ is hilarious. One of my faves was from the car chase scene and LWZ is concerned with having to reimburse for the damages to PS' car and asks PS directly. The side glare of annoyance at that given moment from PS said it all. I look forward to more and more of their interactions together as they solve crimes.
I am amazed at how closely it follows the novel. I haven't read the novel but went back to certain scenes to check if the way it was portrayed was how it was written in the novel. Indeed, it has been the case. Even the dialogue, as long as it's not directly BL, it remains decently faithful. I hope that it continues to follow through. So far, 8 episodes has covered up to 3/4 of book 2.
I started this with no expectations but after 2 eps I'm hooked. I like the urban noir vibe. Pei Su is such an…
I couldn't figure out what name he gave to the cat but that is hilarious! I'm the same. I saw a few pics from earlier episodes and was thinking (PS) that guy has a weird hairstyle and I'm not sure if I would like it but heck, gave it a try. Hooked.
Yeah, ZXC is not a guy with a big build but he was always ... healthy looking before Pei Su - I remember seeing…
I hate to see actors suffer for building a certain physique for a role. Some roles do require it but really, I don't think it was necessary for the character of PS to look even less weight below good health.
I love this episode for many reasons. First, those glances, smiles and stares literally is chef's kiss. I notice…
Yes I get there was some editing done. We start with them in the doc's room and LWZ is trying his best not to laugh (this is before any comment about bones, fragility, lifestyle). PS then looks at him like "are you done yet?" That's where I thought it was odd. The "crunchy" comment, omg, I laughed with LWZ largely because you barely see LWZ smile at all cuz he's so serious all the time or he makes terrible humor. Maybe it is a tattoo. I couldn't tell as it was half hidden and couldn't make out what it was. There was just something there and PS was self-conscious about it that he covered up.
Someone mentioned that Zhang Xin Cheng lost a lot of weight for this role. I am assuming it's meant to fit his character as someone who is not fit/delicate physique. He even moves with grace. I've looked at The Justice, one of his last most recent role and yes, definitely see the weight loss there. I guess I have to watch The Justice to wait painfully for new episodes. A week is very long in cdrama land.
I love this episode for many reasons. First, those glances, smiles and stares literally is chef's kiss. I notice earlier on that Pei Su's top was opened and LWZ saw what appears to be a scar/old injury. Is that in the novel? Can someone spoil me on how he got that? And the subtle bickering in the car (younglings vs old man), I laughed. But my favorite has to be at the hospital. I don't get why LWZ was laughing at PS for his dislocated shoulder after a car accident. It's not like he did something stupid from being drunk or silly. That part doesn't make sense to me. He obviously knew he was in a car accident so the giggling and laughing doesn't match with the scene.
PS is indeed complex character. Zhang Xin Cheng does an excellent job portraying his subtle glances, smiles and his tone. To me, he seems to be misunderstood by LWZ as someone with zero empathy (and supposedly more prone to criminality) and PS plays into that. He claims he is by acting indifferent, unable to show emotions when it's clear he's a deeply empathetic person. For some reason, it's easier for him to have others believe that he has zero empathy than to let people know that he does have it. He's highly perceptive which makes him an excellent crime fighting partner for LWZ.
For people who haven't read the novel/or can't access it (myself) - can someone enlighten me of who Fei Du is in the novel so that I can have a better insight of Pei Su. I haven't watched any of Zhang Xin Cheng's dramas but seeing the first episode, the opening scene with him in obscured lighting, he drew me in instantly. OMG, and his voice. Can't get enough of it. I heard that Pei Su is a complex character and I see it there but I don't understand it enough. I had to re-watch certain scenes to understand it and to no fault of the actor.
His reaction is so funny every time someone touches him, especially whenever SHE tried to grab a hold of him.…
It's funny how in theory, the oldest sister's personality suits him. Quiet and follows the rules. And the youngest would have survived in the demon world with her wits and unconventional methods but the mix up is indeed interesting.
This drama is one of those where I read the summary and was like meh but then saw the trailer and gave episode 1 a try. It's caught my attention. FL isn't annoying and ML has that awkward "I've been socially isolated for over thousand years, can't stand being touched, hugged or invade his personal space." Love it.
CGI on this is much more pleasing on the eyes than Wulin Heroes. I know it's a budget comparison but after 3 weeks of watching subpar CGI with so little fight scenes, this one was like, "finally, a better view".
OMG!!! It's actually the real male lead's voice not dubbedI was wondering why he sounded like that because I watched…
I didn't realize that Chen Xingxu is only 26 years old. He looks and sounds much older. I also had to find an interview of him to compare his voice as I never heard his voice before but had suspicion that he was undubbed and I was right.
Yang Chao Yue...seen her in Heroes. Honestly, I have reservations of her as a FL here and especially paired with Jeremy Tsui (who I adore). I didn't like her acting in Heroes. I will keep an open mind here. As for the Journey of Flower comparison. I've seen that drama - it was very long, draggy but ultimate good to watch. Unsure yet if they bear similarities. The problem with xianxia is always this basic premise of demons vs gods and how the demons always want to take over all realms. That part is boring.
It appears from the trailers, Chaoyue, Asher Ma, and Deng Wei are using their own voices, Jeremy’s voice is…
Jeremy Tsui is always dubbed in non modern series with the exception of The Autumn Ballad. The dubber here sounds like the one for Tang Lian (Blood of Youth).
It is established very early on that County Lanxi is special. It wields an unprecedented amount of representational…
Wow. Thanks for the theories/explanations. I have trouble following the logic because I absolutely don't understand the math being discussed. And while I can understand decent level of Mandarin, I have trouble when the topic is very formal. Sounds like a very large conspiracy and the people at risk when exposed seems far reaching.
My theory on why the Japanese want these people is for manual labour. Each year of over 100 years is a set supply of 3, 530 people being human trafficked through gambling means it's not for prostitution. You might say the fathers would sell their daughters - statistically, men are the overwhelming gamblers- but not many would have daughters - they may have sons but it's unheard of to sell sons. As for the secret land... I feel like it's own by someone/group that are unaccounted for on the designated parcel of land maps. By whom and for what purpose, no clue.
100 years seems to be so long. What kind of trade is this?
