The angst I've seen in xianxia dramas has never reached this kind of…genuineness??? and i've seen enough popular ones. all those mortal arcs, deaths, separations feel kinda like a cloak you can't wait to shrug off. here, it feels like the angst that makes you want to wait it out till the end. 🥺

my takeaways from ep 21: - baobao & zhou yiran would do great paired up again in a mystery drama. they can solve crime together and be a pair of smarty pants - shangguan haonan is a hottie and i love his dynamic with you guanyue who saved this episode with his humour - who the hell put that drawing on the wall 😂😂😂

My opinion's different on how they handled this thematically. I wasn't into the past generation's issues at first, but I've come to appreciate the "loop" which is the point of the storyーgenerations of Mu men falling for Luoying Valley women whilst society is against it. If the loop were meant to be resolved already as you'd want it, let's just wrap this up in 15 eps instead of 37.
There's also a plethora of 'i wanna be the very best' type of wuxia shows already, so I'm glad this is diverging from that mould. No dumb training arcs, no filler side quests, no powerups pulled out of thin air (so far). I do want more fights, though.
I was also lukewarm towards Cai Zhao's character at the start even though I'm watching this because of Bao Shangen (whom I've only seen in Youthful Glory), but I've been completely won over by her especially in eps 16-17. There's a childlike innocence to her character that she's portrayed well, mixed with the confidence and ruggedness that her character requires.

I feel like we haven’t had a proper “love at first sight” cdrama in a while as it’s been mostly revenge stuff or arranged marriages. I’m seated ‼️
I found Song Weilong’s acting a bit unnatural compared to hers but I loved the show regardless.
