Well I guess I am hetero- and homophonic then since I seem to enjoy tragic love stories, no matter which sexual…
Thank you for your reply. No, of cause it's important to also watch with a critical eye and your opinion on this drama is totally valid. As far as I know I never said it wasn't ok not to like a drama and write about the things you didn't enjoy or at least I didn't want to. English isn't my first language and some meanings get lost in the language barrier. I was really frustrated with the lack of communication in this drama in ep 3-6. Why couldn't they just leave together and live a happy life in Seoul? But I also understand DH for just wanting to leave everything behind and to not look back at a time in his life where he was abused. I would have preferred if he got counseling instead of just burying everything inside. Not thinking of JY was definitely not ok and if I was JY I would have probably hated DH for just throwing me aside and moved on or at least I hope I would have done so. But in the end I am not the one in love with DH and love is often irrational and doesn't have your and your partners mental health as first priority, unfortunately. I guess guilt also held DH back from contacting JY.
I will watch the last two episodes tonight. I look forward to the way the story will unfold and hope some character growth is involved. Especially now that you said it gets better.
What kind of irked me though (and was the reason I replied to you, making this my second comment in 12 years on MDL after watching nearly 800 Dramas and scrolling through their comment sections) was the insult to the viewers who got called out as homophobic in your comment. And not even all viewers, but specifically straight women.
I think it is really sad that it is viewed as completely 'normal' to enjoy every genre of dramas or movies with straight couples but it's different with gay couples. As far as I know nobody would call out a gay man for watching a heartbreaking straight couple on screen where both die in tragic ways in the end and say he must enjoy their suffering am he must be heterophobic. So why is it 'not normal' to watch a drama with a gay couple experiencing trauma as a straight woman. Why make a gay couple on screen a 'not normal' watch? Why can't everyone, no matter what sexual orientation they have enjoy every genre there is? Why gatekeep certain genres? I really don't get it. Would you rather have straight women say "No I can't watch a gay couple drama. That would be indecent. I should not enjoy this type of content." Making it a taboo in the end.
I'd rather have them giggle the first time the leads kiss and have butterflies in their stomachs without thinking about stuff like "Is it ok to watch that?" or "Am I not allowed to enjoy that?" Even if the leads suffered before that and had a lot of trauma to go through. Even if there is not happy ending.
So in the end what I want to say is that I don't agree with the statement: "There is, I think, something fundamentally homophobic about straight women wanting to see gay men suffer, and loving these "damaged goods..."
I would love to hear your opinion on it and the way you view it.

OHHHHHHHHH...OK. NOW I understand why this series includes such sadomasochistic behaviors from all three main…
Well I guess I am hetero- and homophonic then since I seem to enjoy tragic love stories, no matter which sexual orientation the leads have. Some of my favorite dramas are Scarlet heart ryeo, Empress ki, Stairway to heaven and Mr. Sunshine. All straight couples with tragic love stories. Maybe I'm bromancephobic too, because I loved My Country. My heart ached, tears where running down my face and I was glued to the screen watching stories where beautiful feelings like love and friendship prevailed through the hardships of war, trauma, sickness, revoution or power struggles they got sucked into. Some Dramas made me get heavily frustrated when there is bad or no communication or illogical decisions that lead to separation or death. If I don't like it or get too frustrated I drop the drama, it's just not for me then. Other people may enjoy it, no need to judge. We all have different lives, different experiences and different tastes.
Somedays I prefer to watch a romcom and laugh with the characters. Sometimes I like silly stories or crime and psychopaths. Historical, slice of life, end of the world, fantasy, psychological, family, medical and whatever else exists. It is all jusy fiction and I am glad there is a lot of different genres to choose from for my next watch. Unfortunately it is mostly dramas with hetero couples that get a large variety of genres and I will be glad when this changes in the future.
I haven't watched the last two episodes of this drama yet, so I have no idea how it ends but I am looking forward to it.

Although I liked many songs from the article, in my opinion the best song from the drama is the song from Six…
Thank you for reminding me this masterpiece exists! Went to listen to the whole OST again after a long long time.
