Don’t give up after the first two episodes!
After the first two episodes, I’m not gonna lie, I did not want to continue watching. I’m just not into the cringy, overly dramatic, hyper cutesy type of drama. But! I gave it a chance. And after I continued watching, I realized that this was an easter egg drama. What do I mean by that? I mean it presents this cute, cliché, cringy façade but it actually deals with a lot of serious topics.
I love how much representation is in this drama. As a lot of other reviews have probably suggested, it is one of the few popular BLs in the spotlight that portrays fem gays in roles that are not comic relief and also includes other LGBTQ+ couples. There are actual strong friendships, people respecting others pronouns, realistic feelings of anxiety tied with confidence or body positivity, and a lot of unconditional love.
I’m so glad I did not go with my gut feeling and abandon this drama. It has been so worth it.

ml LOVES the fl
I’d say what really made this drama stand out to me is the way we see the characters falling in love. The ML is so expressive with his eyes that I could immediately tell when he became obsessed with the FL. This woman had him ON HIS KNEES in love with her. The way he acts when she’s in the room is insane, it felt like I was really watching a crush form and grow. Although I couldn’t tell right away when the FL fell for him, I thought their dynamic was so cute. The trope of falling in love in a foreign country is not overdone, so I really liked seeing it here. It is a refreshing watch and a perfect drama to start on a snowy day!The supporting characters also really cared for the main couple and helped push them together. The FL’s brother in particular was stellar (I don’t want to spoil so that’s all I’ll say). He got a 10/10 from me.
This is a great winter watch, especially if you’re tired of corny dramas where the main couple doesn’t even like each other.

Golden cast, golden message
Side note: this kinda gave me Romance is a Bonus Book vibes with its focus on writing/publishing. This was definitely better though.I love the subtle messages that this drama infuses in the cute romantic plot line. I feel like they were trying to highlight so many issues, from hypersexualization of lgbtq+ relationships within the lit/entertainment world to generational trauma tied to homophobia.
I'm not gonna lie, when I first started to watch this I thought it would be just another overused trope. I couldn't understand why certain characters already seemed to have feelings for one another and I thought things were moving way too fast to follow. Without spoiling, I'm just gonna say this... EVERY THING WILL MAKE SENSE EVENTUALLY. Stick around til the end! I promise it is so worth it.
What drew me to Lovely Writer was Kao from UWMA (the BEST bl if I do say so myself). His acting here is so enchanting and convincing, I genuinely felt like Nubsib was INFATUATED with Gene. It's the little things like the way he would look at him and how he would act when he missed him. I actually felt jealous!
Anyway, watch Lovely Writer.

Cute but kinda dumb
Along with everyone else who watched Love Alarm in 2019, I was looking forward to season 2 so much. I'm not gonna lie, I didn't LOVE season 1, but I thought it was interesting and it definitely grabbed my attention. There are many thing's that went wrong with season two. I shall proceed to list a few, but I don't want to spoil so I will be very vague.
1. Too Short - I feel like this is an obvious one considering there are only 6 episodes.
2. Underdeveloped Characters - Just when I thought we were gonna get some juicy background on someone, they left us hanging. There were new characters introduced, but I still can't comprehend their relevance to the storyline.
3. Acting - Okay, please don't come for my head. THEY'RE CUTE, I KNOW! But you have to admit, the acting is a little bit on the overly dramatic side from time to time.
4. Climax - I don't know... what the climax was? Where was it? When?
5. Effects - Only good effect was the rain. That's it.

Jaw drop, amazing.
I just finished watching The Glory and I am literally at a loss for words.I started watching this drama earlier this year and I was so sad when I thought there were no episodes left. Part 2 was so amazing, I could not stop watching once I started. This show is one of the best kdramas I've ever watched in my life. Every time I thought I knew what would happen next, something unexpected would happen.
The cast is amazing, the acting is enthralling, the emotions are visceral, and the plot is stellar.
I really hope there's another season. If not, though, I'm so satisfied by the end.

Cute and sweet
I rarely watch shows that are ongoing, since I prefer binge watching, but this was worth the wait each episode. I wasn't hanging from a thread in dire need of a continuation; I was content and quite intrigued. The cast was really well picked. I've only ever seen the FL in Itaewon Class and it was really nice seeing her in this role. The story was great (not AMAZING but it did sum up a realistic childhood-to-adult-life relationship). The music was PERFECT. I have no complaints.
Everything ended quite nicely too and nothing seemed really forced. I recommend watching if you are looking for a lowkey, cute, modern, non-intense drama.

Killer story, but the ending was just okay.
Things I liked: the cast was wonderful, the storyline was fresh and exciting, the music was hauntingly beautiful and thriller/supernatural element was awesome.Things I didn't love: the romance subplot. Honestly, I would've preferred the drama without romance between the main leads—they really didn't have the best chemistry and the story was so much stronger without it!! I normally am the first person to uplift a romcom (or action/thriller/romcom in this case) but I could not get myself to enjoy that part. Maybe that's just me.

I was so stressed out
Okay, so going into this I was a bit skeptical because I am NOT a fan of time-travel plots. I still watched it though because it's a HIStory and I am bound by law to watch every HIStory movie at least 10 times. I will say that there was a lot of potential here, but things got so weird so fast. It seems like they tried to cover everything up in the end QUICKLY.The main couple is... alright... I guess. They have some scenes that are really cute, but for the most part their chemistry is lackluster and I can't pinpoint why they are even together. Their arguments are also kind of weird and one of them always ends up running off crying, which is SO ANNOYING. The second couple is so adorable—the only highlight—but the misunderstandings made me start to hate their relationship around the midway point. CAN'T PEOPLE JUST COMMUNICATE? IT'S NOT THAT DIFFICULT TO TALK! THINGS! THROUGH! Ugh, there is just so much happening midway through this drama that I felt very very stressed and couldn't wait for it to be over. At one point, it felt like some of the subplots were so useless/carelessly thrown in, I just start skipping through scenes.
There's a cameo from a previous HIStory drama in here; that definitely made me smile. But, at the same time, the whole drama has wayyy too much going on. The supernatural element is also kind of dumb (funny at times, but still dumb).
I know this review is a rant, but I'll probably end up eating my words when I rewatch this in a year or so (only for the second couple though lowkey).

Refreshing, quick, and funny
I absolutely LOVED this drama. It was a super quick binge—only took about a day to finish all 12 episodes—and I wish there was a season two.The A couple was SOOOOOO cute. I loved them from the first moment they met, during their flirty moments, and in every encounter they had until the end. For those of you looking for a BL focused on a more mature couple, this is what you should watch. I personally felt like I could relate to each of the things that came up in their relationship.
I discovered this BL on Tiktok and honestly did not have super high expectations. It BLEW me away and I was pleasantly surprised! The humor is great and the cast is stellar. I will definitely rewatch this.
SPOILER: The only thing that would've made it better is more Alex/He Qing content. I loved this B couple and I would love it even more if I could see them grow.

Loved it... but I get the hate
As a simple feel good drama, this BL hits the spot! It's steamy, shocking, and in my opinion hilarious. Literally, moments that should have been serious felt like peak comedy to me.I really hated the casting at first—specifically Kamol because I could not associate his babyface and tiny-ness with being a mafia boss. The main couple's dynamic made up for it though.
Was I left with endless questions throughout the drama and in the end? Of course. But what this drama did right was establish a bunch of healthy aspects that are needed to grow a mature relationship. It did start off super toxic (which is still entertaining) but then it surprised me by how much the main couple communicated and listened to each other. Although this is the typical mafia trope, be prepared to expect the unexpected.
I still can't put my finger on how the main couple came to love each other, but that's fine. I enjoyed it and it was funny.
Petition to have a second season for the second couple!

comically horrible
Uhhhhhh... I don't know how to begin?I had expectations and they were not met. At all. Not even in the slightest way. I'm honestly still trying to make sense of each episode. NOTHING MADE SENSE. NOTHING WAS EXPLAINED. I'm so disappointed, I'm laughing. I genuinely just wasted 4 hours.
Okay, so I knew Hur Hyunjun wouldn't be in S2. I knew that! But I still had HOPE. I had hope that the writers would do something good with this. They did well with S1 so I really HOPED.
My hopes were destroyed, obliterated, and ransacked right before my eyes. I think at one point near the end, the writers remembered that this was a BL and made some... interesting decisions. I don't want to spoil this horrible sequel so that's all I'm going to say. Although I don't know why anyone reading this review would still decide to watch S2 afterwards.
If you're considering watching this after LOVING S1 like I did, just don't. You'll just feel annoyed and pissed off like I am now. I LITERALLY PROCRASTINATED AN ASSIGNMENT FOR THIS. *cries*

I'm sobbing, pulling my hair out, and peeing on the ground
Wow. I just binged watched I Told Sunset About You, Last Twilight in Phuket, and finally I Promised You the Moon. Literally (no joke) I skipped all of my assignments on a Sunday night and finished the last episode 5 minutes ago. I have class at 8am in a few hours.I'm at a loss for words. Oh my gosh.
I've been putting off watching this because it's not the usually fluffy/cutesy/hot BL I normally watch. I knew ahead of time that this would be heart-wrenching and jaw-dropping. My soul is floating, my wig is on the floor, my ice cream is empty, and my heart is full.
Real. It's so real. I felt everything they felt. I hurt every time they hurt.
This tackled pain, tension, angst, happiness, and all of the ups and downs of life. The way the actors looked at each other had the strongest CHOKEHOLD on my emotions and I still cannot break free. I reacted AUDIBLY every single time something amazing or sad happened and my roommate was very concerned about my mental state.
Overall, if you've been on the fence about watching this, here is your sign. WATCH! IT! NOW!

WOW... It's worth the hype
As an avid k-drama fan, I was always aware of the presence of Reply 1988. I mean, it's at the top of most lists as one of the best k-drama's of all time.I don't know why I put it off for so long, to be honest. Maybe I saw the fact that it was so family focused and assumed there wouldn't be any romance or comedy—two things I NEED in a drama. Maybe it was the first two episodes that didn't immediately make me fall in love. Maybe it was how young the characters started off, or the frequent flash forward moments into time. All I can say is that I usually would not gravitate towards this type of drama, but I have no regrets.
All I know is, it was the best decision to binge the rest of it in a week when I came home for vacay during college. This coming-of-age tale is so amazing, heartfelt, and tender that I have difficulty putting it into words. The comedy was so underrated. I'm not the type of person to laugh audibly while watching a show or movie, but Reply 1988 had me CACKLING.
And don't even get me started on the PLOT TWISTS! Y'all, I was not ready for some of them. And I'm still trying to process a few now. My mind did a 180 a couple times and I was on the edge of my seat during specific scenes.
Not gonna lie, I probably wouldn't rewatch... the whole thing. Maybe I'd rewatch the second half. It's just a lot to process all over again. Regardless, it was a beautiful production with love, family, and COMEDY!
