Can we take a moment to appreciate the soundtrack in episode 7? Imo, it’s probably the best episode in terms of production, cinematography, soundtrack, acting, you name it.

Don’t mind the comments! It’s a censored adaptation from a same-sex work, so many people are a bit iffy about that but so far, the show itself is really good in terms of the characterization, acting, script, and production. Just separate the show itself from the comments :)
Imo, and I’m gonna sound a bit controversial saying this.. I feel like Up’s acting in this series is more or less "rocky." There are moments where he hits the nail on Ming’s characterization and the emotions he needs to portray, such as in episode 4 (which was a masterpiece on his part). Other times, like in this weeks episode, his acting feels rather incomplete or lackluster. I’m not feeling his regret or anything at all even.
It could be that I’m such a nerd for the novel that I’m having higher expectations because SQC, the original author, writes her characters very well. Around this time in the novel, she doesn’t skimp out on the littlest facial details, verbal cues, and interactions YMX has with ZX that shows how he is visibly pained— even if it’s all just words, I can practically see YMX as this "collapsed" person throughout the years and, although this may be bit far fetched to say, a person worth redeeming. Meanwhile, I feel like Ming is just "sad" and that’s it.
It’s crazy because, although the drama is derived from the source material, seeing it and reading it are both different things. The YMX many readers forgave in the novel may not be forgivable in the drama, simply because the character doesn’t appear remorseful. That being said, I hope that there are moments in the future where we can see the kind of acting he displayed in episode 4.
Imo, they couldn’t have casted anyone better than Poom as Zhou Xiang. Although he isn’t what I initially pictured as ZX, I believe that he exudes that masculinity that SQC describes him as in the novel. I also like that, compared to the novel, ZX stands his ground, is more confrontational, and is "in-tune" with his emotions (notably pre-accident ZX). In the novel, ZX was more of a desperate hopeless romantic. Also pleasantly surprised to see ZX driving a truck (never imagined that he would).
Similarly, I was initially a bit hesitant about Up being YMX but appearance wise, he’s quite suitable for the role. His acting skills are also good. I’m just surprised about the changes they made to YMXs character. Compared to the novel, Ming is a lot more tame and "soft spoken" compared to the confident, domineering, and absolute asshole YMX. Don’t get me wrong, Ming is still a dick, but the contrast to the original character is a bit drastic.
Can’t wait to see how this progresses. Many things are moving quicker than I expected but I hope that it’ll stay true to the main events in the original story.
