I haven't seen many xian xias... so consider myself a newbie. Yes, I can tell the story is very deep, the moving scenes, spliced scenes, sound effects, made it hard for me to follow FOF.

My all time favorite Xian Xia is "Ancient Love Poetry" and I really enjoyed "Till the End of the Moon" and "Journey of Flower" so limited experience....

you might want to check out the novel discussion thread on the Prisoners of Beauty MDL page as others provided their opinion of the novel and changes made to the characters. I loved the ML/FL in TPOB drama so much and the novel is slightly different, but interesting dynamic of the leads. the novel is long, but for those who enjoy reading, you may like it.

Since you're a fan of HMH, what did you think of Fangs of Fortune? I found that drama confusing, so I paused.

You are convincing... I remember watching The Prisoner of Beauty and then read the novel and enjoyed both. There were differences between the the drama and novel, and loved both. The novel provided more depth to the characters and explained major events in the story which I appreciated.

I feel the same about dramas with heavy tropes to fill the episodes. So how was LOTFG? How was the chemistry between the leads and was it convincing? I haven't watched it yet... still undecided atm.

I think it's because they have different goals and priorities that don't line up at the same time. JBZ prioritizes MY and their relationship, so he's done a lot of the work.... whereas, her priority has been to return home to Yaoguang Mountain and confront the person who poisoned her and get her title back as crown prince and compete in the annual tournament and to get the "blessed rain" for her people.

Yes, it's good. It's wuxia and little to no romance as that's not the focus. My only issue with Blood River is I'm still not convinced of Gong Jun as the character of the main male lead. His expression is limited.... When I watch a drama, the actors need to pull me into their story and world and that is all I see. Gong Jun hasn't done it for me yet. I'm only on episode 1... so still early. But all the other characters around the ML has been good so far.

Good to know about strong female lead and good script writing in Are You the One. I am going to move that up on My Watchlist.

Okeee, I will put this back on my "Plan to Watch" list.... and give it a go after Blood River and Whispers of Fate... I will pause romance temporarily after I finish LITC.

My ears are very sensitive to sound, and the FL's voice in LBFAD was grating indeed.... but DonFang Qing Cang (Dylan's character and acting) kept me interested and engaged that I stayed till the end and am glad I did because his story was interesting. Though, I had to mute the FL's voice in the earlier episodes when I couldn't get use to her voice... not a big deal for me since I read subtitles.... but her baby voice did tone down mid drama.

Wow: WDBTD - good to know. LBFAD is one of my all time favorite Xian Xia's... although I don't remember many hot kisses. There may have been a couple, but placed at the right moments in the story line which made it compelling for our main leads. the Prisoner of Beauty had like 2 hot kisses, but they were again at pivotal points in the CPs relationship and that for me was good enough.

I haven't seen "When Destiny Brings the Demon." I watched part of episode 1, but the female lead was portraying a very "child-like" persona that was not my cup of tea so I stopped... whereas FL in LITC was strong from the beginning which kept me watching... Anyways, in your opinion, which drama had 'hotter' kisses - WDBTD or LITC? I know WDBTD had more.
