Title Rattan
Jing Tian truly carried this drama.
Her acting was absolutely astounding, defying any explanation—it was simply flawless. When it comes to the plot or any other aspect, she bore the entire weight of the drama on her shoulders. No one could have portrayed Si Teng better than her.

Her story and the other daughter’s story Parallel each other. Both daughters married to abusive husbands and…
I understand what you’re telling me. But it’s not really my issue.
She was banished by her family, abandoned by her abusive husband. But before that, nobody cared about her safety; they didn’t help her. The heroine, who’s supposed to always do justice and understand everyone, wasn’t here to solve her aunt’s case.
I’m disappointed because she’s the only one being punished; her husband had nothing. Her death was like an insignificant event to everyone—nobody cared. I think it’s too much for someone who suffered like this.
During this time, her husband and her son are living as if nothing happened.
( and yes, my bad, she choose to marry into this family)

I see, I didn’t read the book, so I didn’t know how she was supposed to be portrayed.
However, I didn’t like the way they showed her in the show. She does awful things but also seems to be forced by the circumstances. She’s punished by her whole family and even kills herself, whereas her husband is alive without any problems.
Idk how to explain that, but it’s like justice has not been done.
Maybe, I’m getting too emotional with this character.

This drama does a good job in giving most characters some depth/dimensions, so yes, while we can see her side…
I completely agree with you! Unfortunately, in such situations, it’s incredibly challenging to maintain mental stability and remain true to our principles.
While I don’t condone her actions, I do believe that she is portrayed too heavily as the villain rather than as a victim. The show seems to focus on punishing her without addressing her husband’s role, which is why I feel a bit disappointed.

my bad ! yeah she likes to put the blame on other that's why she's angry at her family, this is her way to accept the situation. She knew that was her fault in the first place but when they didn't gave her what she asked, she was beaten so she put the blame on them. She had the feeling that nobody wanted to help her so she put the blame on them again.

If you want to compare, do it correctly. The 'good' one didn't show that she was a victim of being beaten by her husband. Her son cared about her situation. Moreover, her husband acted just for fun or I don't know, but not when she didn't give him what he wanted.

The 'bad' one revealed to her entire family that she was suffering. Her son didn't care about her. Her husband punished her when she didn't give him what he wanted—whether it was money or even the servant. That's why she constantly asked her family for things. But this wasn't for her; it was all for her husband. She was scared of being beaten, so she became obsessed with satisfying his wishes. Eventually, she started to lose her sanity, and that's how her desperation grew. With fear, a human can do all the worst awful things.
The ‘bad’ one was extremely angry with her entire family; she believed it was their fault. She didn’t want this marriage, and when they didn’t give her what she asked for, they also failed to help her. As a result, she suffered physical abuse.

The "good" one didn't hold a grudge against her family and just accepted the situation.

Tbh i don't really like this parallel, it's like de "good" one is showed as a weak person who accept the situation. And the "bad" one as an angry person who didn't accept the situation but try to survive in satisfying her husband whises .
The ‘bad’ one demonstrated the extreme path to experiencing abuse;
-Mental illness
-Submission to her husband
-Distress

She committed some terrible acts, but it’s important to remember that she was under duress. That’s why the law provides protection for people in such situations. When you’re in survival mode, your mental stability can be compromised and you don't really realise what you are doing.

For you, is beating considered a minor offense?
She clearly demonstrated that she had been physically abused by her husband from day one. (my bad someone corrected me and this wasn't her situation, she wanted this marriage despite her grandma advices) . Despite her many wrongdoings, her mental health was severely compromised; she lived in fear of being beaten and acted out of that fear. Over time, it seems she became mentally unstable, especially since no one was there to support her, not even her son. Yes, her mother tragically died because of her, but she felt abandoned by her family, believing she might also meet the same fate in front of everyone eyes. If her mother died, it also because she felt guilty about this situation.
The daughter is clearly a victim, she screamed and showed that she was being beaten and nobody cared.
It’s heartbreaking that nobody even seemed to care about her suicide. 🙁

yes ofc but maybe she wasn't like this before ?? i think that she was just angry at her family to let her suffer with an husband like this. She always showed her scars and seemed to demand help. maybe i'm getting to emotive with her character idk.

Am I the only one who feel bad about the grandmother's daughter?? she's abused by her husband. She is alone with her grievance, nobody tried to save her and now her mother is dead then she took all the blame?? Nobody is blaming or attacking her husband, poor girl, it's like nobody cared about her at all.

Oh, so this is it! I wasn’t aware of that. Now that you say it, I totally agree! I thought that Li Ni was portrayed as a hero, which is why 2ML was always nearby. But now that you’ve explained it, I understand it better. Thank you!

Similarly, I was searching for Liu Yuning’s song “If Love Remembers” and couldn’t find it on Deezer. Then, I checked Spotify, but unfortunately, it wasn’t available there either 😭. So, whenever I want to listen to that song, I just go to YouTube 😞
On a positive note, let’s appreciate the good side of the UK : the english subtitles. I'm from france and i swear i wasn't into english before but i had to force myself to learn it because the translation of some dramas or webtoons wasn't avalaible in french.😩
Sometimes they are, but usually after the English versions, and I’m not that patient.
I believe that one day the wonderland ost will be avalaible on spotify or any streaming platform !! lets keep hoping for that✊

What the heck is a contract marriage, is this a concept from teen dramas?
Yes ! this is a concept that we can see a lot in manhua manhwa or webtoons ;
A contract marriage is when 2 ppl marry each other during a predefined time for something.
Exemple with a plot (to show you the difference):
Male lead needs to be married to inherit grandfather's company or for the grandfather's last wish (ex :wants to see his grandson being married). And a female lead needs money to pay her mother hospitalisation . They'll meet each other idk how but they will🤣(or they already know each other and ml knows fl situation) . After he'll propose to pay her mother hospitalisation and all her stuff ( medicaments etc..) but she has to marry him during 1 year or 6 month ( = contract of the marriage).
So there are 2 case :
1. They start hating each other but after starting living together, feelings come up.
2. They live almost 1 year together but they doesn't like the idea to being separated and realise that they already felt for each other.

Whereas conventional marriage is most of time when they loved each other and during the marriage they got some issues (so the plot is totally different).
