It's been so long since I've seen Tucker & Dale vs Evil that I could barely remember anything. This was really funny on its own and all of the main cast were great. Kang Gi Doong was good too. I hope Nam Dong Hyeop makes more films. 8.5/10
MDL probably isn’t the best place for auteur-driven films. The platform caters to a different audience, mainly…
How do the scores support your point? I included them because they directly refute it. You say scores here are lower than other platforms but the MDL score is higher than IMDb and TMDB. You mention auteur films and Letterboxd several times but there's only a 3% difference between the Letterboxd and MDL scores. I'm not here to argue over ratings either but logically what you said about scores specifically doesn't make sense.
I wasn't necessarily saying your comment was elitist but a lot of the other ones here in a similar vein are. I agree with your other points and having watched only Japanese and Korean films/series I do think there's a bias towards Korean media here. I usually adjust Japanese ratings by +0.5-1 in my head to compare to Korean scores. I'm not sure how other countries compare.
I've never played the Fatal Frame games so I'm just reviewing this is as a film.It was well-shot and Morikawa…
Who was the medium and how did their powers work? What were they doing there when they found the girl? Who was the woman that ran the photo studio? If she wasn't actually an alumnus why did she lie about it? If the teacher and her brother didn't kill the girl, why was she killing everyone to hide the body? Why did the headmistress decide to kill a twin?
Edit: Okay apparently the medium is a cameo from a manga called Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service, which is by the same author as the novel this was based on.
I've never played the Fatal Frame games so I'm just reviewing this is as a film. It was well-shot and Morikawa Aoi was pretty good, but the story sucked. I'm not sure if the source novel was bad or if it's just a bad adaptation. The explanation for the curse barely made sense and there were a lot of unanswered questions by the end. I didn't find it scary at all either. 5.5/10
I can't tell if you are complaining because the rating is too low or too high. What should this be rated at in…
My theory is that movies are roughly 0.5-1 star lower than dramas. So good movies are probably gonna be somewhere between 7.5-8.5. I don't know why but I even find myself rating stuff that way and have to self-correct.

Firstly, I'm not attacking you, you just happen to be the most recent comment so I'm replying here lol.
I've seen this sentiment echoed often in movie page comments and I don't agree with it. You put it more fairly yourself, but if you scroll down there are a lot of people with elitist attitudes, as if no one here can comprehend "art". It's funny because we're all MDL users, but some speak as if they're on the outside looking in (or above looking down).
Here is the MDL score compared to a collection of external ratings as of the writing of this comment:
The MDL score is essentially the average of what people seem to consider "real" film-lovers (Letterboxd) and normies. I myself rated it 8/10. I thought Decision to Leave was slightly better and I consider The Handmaiden to be his magnum opus.
I left a top-level comment further up with my ratings of the rest of his films if you're interested.
Great cinematography and editing. Great acting. Good story. I'm glad I went in blind, I think I would have enjoyed it less if I knew where it was going from the start. With this I've completed watching all of the feature films written and directed by Park Chan Wook (starting from JSA which he considers his first). Comparing the two most recent films to The Handmaiden, I think I prefer stories where I actually want the protagonist to succeed. Here are my ratings:
No Other Choice (8.0) Decision to Leave (8.5) The Handmaiden (10) Thirst (6.5) I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK (7.5) Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (8.5) Old Boy (8.0) Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (6.5) Joint Security Area (8.5)
This was a lot better than the first one. I think it could have been shorter, it felt like it dragged in a few of the scenes. There are a lot of funny moments though and the action is great. 7.5/10
This is worth watching to get familiar with the characters and references so you can watch the sequel, which is better. There were some fun moments in this but I mostly felt like I was just sitting through it. 6.5/10
I'm a fan of the anime but I think anyone could enjoy this. I love that they made it a spin-off that expands the world rather than just another adaptation of the same story. Season 2 please. 9/10
This is honestly one of the worst things I've ever seen. My eyes hurt from rolling so far back into my head the whole time. Please read the review by koo before wasting 1h 41m of your life. This movie will make you believe in victim blaming - the smooth-brained FL makes increasingly stupid decisions as the movie plays out. The cops aren't much smarter either. The writing is terrible. There are a bunch of things that happen that are just never addressed again. Please reply if you agree. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills reading the positive reviews. 2/10
I liked it enough to binge the whole thing in one sitting. There are some frustrating moments and some annoying characters but it's so fast-paced that the next nice moment is just around the corner. I think it could have been even better if there were longer episodes so there was enough time to flesh out the side characters. Everything just felt a little shallow. Kumada Rinka was adorable and I thought Mizusawa Rintaro was really good. I watched this because someone recommended it as being in the same vein as NigeHaji. I would say this is like NigeHaji from Temu. Not because this is bad, just because NigeHaji is so good. It's funny that Takahashi Hitomi is the mother of the groom in both. 7.5/10
I hope Nam Dong Hyeop makes more films.
