I grew up watching the way my mother was with her father. She might not always like what he said but she was always polite and respectful to him. It seemed right to me that Xu Yan apologize. I wasn't surprise because I thought this would happen. She was more respectful to her MIL and FIL than her own parents because when you think about it, the in laws treated her well. Her biological parents didn't even consider her.
I think the mil did her own investigation and found out about Xu Yan's background, but she liked her. She admired her for being smart. I don't think she told the fil. As Haoming said, his mother is difficult to please but Xu Yan got her approval.

It is not surprising because of how patient and helpful Xu Yan was to to them. And as I said before, Xu Yan was in tears because she came to care about them. She still called them mom and dad. And even if the mil put her through some tests at first, Haoming's parents were more appreciative of her than her biological parents were. She became the lady of house as the housekeeper said to her once and it was the first time she felt she was wanted in a family. The Shen family was not all bad. They have their standards and made it challenging but overall, they are not evil.

When she removed them, her eyes were clean of makeup, but it wasn't enough and she even took off the added lashes. It was a thorough cleansing.
