Sun and Jing loved and cared for each other unconditionally whether it be the way he got her boots to wear while working, taking her to the hospital to get her wounds treated, her rushing to see him at once upon hearing the news of his hospitalisation without thinking about the consequences, making a charm for him as token of love. Time and situation was not in their favour, they were under strict rules with little to no freedom, yet that did not stop them from loving each other. I cried throughout the movie, when they cried after Jing’s mother told them to be apart for 2 years & Sun agreed for the sake of Jing’s future with tears in both their eyes, when Sun kept on hugging the air because it was the last time he saw Jing in front of him, when Sun in his death bed kept staring at the ceiling because it had their photograph pasted on it, when he wanted to watch the blossomed hawthorn tree with Jing in her red coat before he lost his chance, when he said that he’ll keep on living in her memories till she breathes her last and when I read that the movie & it’s novel is based on a true story.
