Considering how Grandma Shen was explaining the reason for their family's downfall, it was implied that Grandpa Shen already knew about it. But he refused to condemn the deposed emperor's rule. Hence he ended up on the current emperor's bad side and got this ending. There was no need for a heads-up. Heads of both families knew already, but each took different decisions which led to different endings for their families.

Yea, I understand they have their own set of moral principles and integrity to adhere to. But still.. they don't seem to care what sort of tragedy befalls the family behind them, and only think about maintaining their own integrity!

I mean, if there's a chance to keep your family safe, why wouldn't you take it? Why would you provoke the emperor or get on his bad side instead of placating him?

But then again, I guess I must be annoyed that they wouldn't put the lives of their family above their moral convictions. Each character has their own motivations, and considering they were court officials who valued their scholarly principles and integrity, one can't expect them to trade those values for anything else (not even the lives of their family, ugh), since that integrity is the bane of their existence.

So, yea, I'm just venting lol

Just venting, what is up with these grandfathers that have an entire household behind them and don't think of all their lives. The grandfather in "Blossoms in Adversity" and the grandfather here!

Also Li Zhi's route made me realise why the women in the harem usually want to be the emperor's favourite so bad, and why that is even a prevalent concept in romance. Ahh, it felt so good whenever he used his authority for his beloved lol. Although MC did most of the heavy lifting in the emperor route.

If I'm not wrong, the Empress Dowager was one of the big bads in the novel

From the Fl and the king's convo it was pretty obviously stated that the king didn't poison the prince's son. Instead from the very start he took him in as his son and named him the crown prince just so the spirit would go after him. It was all his plan. Queen Dowager was overly anxious to get rid of him and this gave him the perfect opportunity to throw her over instead. The king sending the prince's son out of the palace and the kid regaining consciousness pretty much proved that it was the spirit's doing. This way the king was able to hold onto his innocence and authority in front of the ministers and royal relatives. And now nobody would dare suggest naming another crown prince for a while knowing the spirit was rampant.. is what I think.

I hate the chains binding him to the palace in the end but I'll take this seemingly happy ending 😭
I wonder what price he paid and whether or not there's salvation.
