I Wanted the “Wow,” Not More Questions
I’ve never written a review for a show I rated this low, but I really felt like the casting and storytelling could have been better.
I didn’t particularly care for Son Ye Jin’s acting, and I honestly think a different casting choice may have worked better for the role. She was one of the main characters who threw me off, along with her husband. I just didn’t connect with them the way I expected to.
The storyline started off feeling like it was really going somewhere, but then it seemed to go all over the place. New storylines were introduced without being fully developed or completed, leaving us wondering what happened to certain characters and how their stories actually ended.
I think the show could have benefited from building more momentum with each storyline and extending the series to 12 episodes. That extra time could have given the characters and their stories room to develop and, more importantly, given the audience some real closure. Instead of finishing with, “Wait…what happened?” I wanted to finish thinking, “Wow!”
That being said, although I rated the show a 7 overall, Ji Chang Wook was refreshing to watch in this role. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him play such a mature, grown-up character. He usually has such a youthful look and energy in his roles, so I truly enjoyed seeing this more masculine side of him. He even looked like he had put on weight, which added to that mature presence.
For me, Ji Chang Wook and Nana were the best casting choices in the entire show. They stood out, and I genuinely enjoyed watching them.
