I just finished this and I'm a loss of words... I will be thinking about this drama for a good while, it was just heart-breaking in the most realistic way. And I don't think I will ever be able to eat an omelette again without bursting into tears.

I didn't remeber the mailboxes being numbered, but now you mentioned it, the one at the end was probably the no. 1. I wonder how that connects to the story, should this mean that maybe the ending is part of the very "first world" even before the story of our protagonists? Who knows.

this drama looked intresting, but then I read the comments and I was it was split in two season? Are there more than 32 episodes then? Does this first season have a satisfying ending in his own or am i basically forced to watch also the second season to have proper closure?
I know most people won't agree with me, but about the the mailbox, I'm actually not mad the writers never explained anything.
The mailbox is not the main focus of this story, it's just a medium to show Hai Tang and Yi Xun's life, their desperate struggles to survive and find love and happiness even in the darkest moments. I always saw the mailbox (and mostly the cat) as divine/mystical being that wanted to help, like an answer to their plea to be reunited after the (first) life they passed apart. Everything was just so tragic that someone wanted a second chance for them and in my opinion, the cat was that: it represents the desperate wish for a choice that Hai Tang asks for at the beginning of the drama.
Do I wish they showed us more at the end, especially for their children? Yes, I do, I would have loved to see them reunited. But I also think the mailbox should be left the mystery that it is, otherwise, it would have ruined the essence of the drama (it would be like asking to explain how the protagonists of Your Name were able to switch bodies and be connected by a bond that transcended time and space). Sometimes there's no need to have a clear, scientific reasoning for everything.
he is so naive and w/ no rich/powerful backing, him getting this far in life is a miracle.
Yeah, I'd say he's very academically gifted, but he doesn't fully grasp the scheming and the intrigues of powerful families & officials because of his background. I hope he won't be ruined by others since he's a good man š
Started this without knowing anything and I was left speechless when it finally clicked that these are the same characters as Story of Yanxi Palace. Everyone is so different, only the emperor managed to be the same heartless bastard in both adaptations š
Also chef Anh Sung Jae going "alright, yall heard the compliments from everyone... so I can be strict" and then proceeding to point out all the dishes weakest points cracked me up lmfao I love him š
This choice to get rid entirely of either the black or white spoons doesn't sit right with me š We have way too talented chefs in both groups, it would be honestly so dirty to eliminate them like that, I want them to be in mixed group or in solo, to make it fairer.
Apart from the drama, I really wanna know how this idol security works? Like a big idol and he has no security…
It's very sad, but there have been multiple incidents in which stalkers managed to break-in idols's houses, especially because most of the time staff and people close to them, sell informations to those stalkers. It's a very know fact that most idols (if they can afford it) live in closed appartaments complex (same with politicians and very wealthy conglomerate owners) where you cannot enter unless you're authorised and some crazy stalkers still manage to get insides. It's not easy per se, but these people are usually mad enough to try anything they can and less famous/rich idols have less security, so it can be very dangerous.
I remeber one time some stalkers managed to get inside stray kids' hotel rooms and they recorded the whole thing.
