Episode 13 made me cry. Lao He pushing Xiao Ran out of the way... I was so scared that Xiao Ran would die, I don't want to see that! I just realized Xiao Ran is an orphan, so basically his shifu and Xiaohe are his family now, he doesn't have anyone else, he took care of Lao He like he was family. Xiaohe choosing Lao He and Xiao Ran calling him shifu just after that horrible woman served him with the papers when he was lying in the hospital bed severely injured was so moving, she might be horrible and leave him in such a cruel way, but he still has his daughter and tudi.

I think the rating is low because the FL is absolutely insufferable, and hard to watch. Ratings HAVE gone up since…
Yep, you have a good system, changing the rating as you watch, that works really well.

One interesting thing is also how differently Chinese fans and international fans react to dramas and rate them. So many times I've come across this phenomenon where Chinese fans hated something, international fans loved it, and vice versa. I guess the ones making the drama can never really know how it's going to be received. So, sometimes it's interesting to see the ratings on MDL from that perspective.

Well, in that case 7.9 here on MDL isn't a bad rating then, it's pretty good, considering everything. And I think the rating has gone up? Because I think it was lower before when I checked this page and was wondering why people rating it low. Anyway, I enjoyed it so much, I never care about MDL ratings, I know what I like and always choose what to watch based on my experience in picking the kind of dramas I will enjoy, and most of the time I get it right and choose the correct dramas that are to my liking. Also, sometimes MDL will have people giving ratings without watching a whole drama, so I don't trust ratings like that (I form my opinion after I finished the drama because sometimes the ending will change the rating I was originally going to give). Especially since sometimes some people are rating low on purpose because they are haters (I don't know if this drama or any of its actors have any haters?). I think it's a weird hobby to be rating low on purpose, I don't have that much free time to be wasted on hating someone or some drama like that. But I guess nothing can be done to the ratings here, I have to just let them be even if they do not always accurately describe how a drama is really rated. I usually just check my own ratings that I have given dramas, that lets me know, what kind of dramas/actors I have liked before and helps me with choosing what to watch in the future.

I haven't started this yet , is it worth watching??
Depends entirely what kinda person you are. Chinese fans haven't really received this drama well. International fans are divided: some say they like it, some absolutely hate it. If you are a fan of Princess Agents or the novel that the story is based on, then maybe you might not like this drama. But if you have no emotional connection to those, then you might think this drama is interesting. Some say their acting is good, some say their acting is bad. It really has been dividing opinions. In China it has gotten a super low rating on Douban, usually dramas don't drop that low even on Douban, but on the other hand, Douban scores can be low even for dramas that were a hit (not this low, though, this is historically low). So really there's nothing that can be said except check it out yourself, nobody else knows what is to your liking except you yourself. If you like, then enjoy, if you don't, just drop it and find something more to your liking, never mind what others say. I myself didn't like it but I am watching it to support the actors because the filming industry in China has been having hard times so I am doing what little I can to support.

Oh my goodness, I can't believe I found someone else who loved The Wanted Detective but didn't like The Coroner's Diary! I thought I was the only one! I don't understand how people thought that it was better than this one. Especially the nonsense scene where there is a swirl of water pulling her down, that whole scene was so dumb I just couldn't... Regardless I gave the drama a pretty generous rating, after all it was still interesting, but nowhere near the intelligent plot of The Wanted Detective which I gave a top rating. I love your comment about not being able to put two brain cells together, it cracked me up.

I noticed a long time ago I can't go by MDL ratings, I need to know what is my own taste and style and which actors and actresses usually can offer that. Even then I get disappointed sometimes. Last year I watched drama after drama that were all hitting home and exactly what I love, this year it's been a bit more difficult to find dramas like that but I'm hopeful I'll find more.

I can watch any kind of dramas so I don't get stuck with just one type which is fortunate for me because then I find gems that others wouldn't appreciate because they have such a strict style or type that they like. I can watch a silly idol drama at one moment and the next be diving deep into a crime drama.

I've watched over 230 C-dramas fully, not speeding up the paste, not skipping, not half watched, I mean watched from first second to last seconds. That has given me a pretty good grip on what kind of dramas are gonna be good and what aren't. A lot of times I will even watch a bad drama from start to finish just to support a certain actor, and also to get a picture of what kind of roles they have had and how they have developed in their acting career.

I don't know if you'll like it but right now there's a crime drama airing on WeTV called Eight Hundred. It shows a very different side of Xu Kai who is in the main role with Deng En Xi (she's lovely). I have enjoyed it so far. Also Ding Yong Dai as a veteran actor in leading role pretty much guarantees the quality of a drama is going to be good. It's intelligent and a little bit nerve wrecking at times. I have watched too many dramas so I don't get surprised a lot anymore so it's pretty good if a drama can still make me feel nervous while I'm watching.

Another crime drama I watched last year was Supersensory Maze, but that was a bit freaky and pretty gruesome so I don't know if it's a bit much for you or if you'd like that kind of drama. Pretty bloody, but the plot was very intelligent. It requires viewers to put those two brain cells together so it's not for everyone, one has to actually follow the plot to understand what's going on. I found it funny, though, when I read the comment section and someone said they don't understand the plot and that it's confusing, meanwhile I didn't find it confusing at all, I guess I've watched so many crime dramas they don't feel difficult to follow anymore. This drama stars Dou Xiao as main lead and shows a very different side of him than in his previous production and I have to say that he did remarkably well, it was super creepy. I can't remember the name of the other main lead but he is also a veteran actor and he was absolutely the best part of that drama, every little expression on his face and mannerisms were done to the perfection. He could teach a thing or two to some of these new actors who are too young and can't act yet.

Oh, and an absolute favorite is Mobius if you haven't seen it, starring Bai Jing Ting and Janice Man. It was intelligent, pase was pretty fast, requires the viewers to keep up with what is going on to understand the plot, it was different and entirely enjoyable. Bai Jing Ting was absolutely wonderful in his role, one of my favorites of all of his roles. I won't say too much so that I won't ruin the plot for you in case you end up watching it. Crime drama but with a twist to it.

i can't believe Yu Shu is the same person as Jin Zhao in speed and love omg
I still wouldn't be able to recognize him unless I knew it was him. Only thing that I did recognize was his voice. They did the makeup and accessories so well he is unrecognizable!
