They had a past but I definitely don’t think he was in love with her. We’ve already seen the past, and there’s only one timeline continuing into the present, so it was already hinted that he liked Huiji back then. The scene with Ian and Queen just felt like another repetition or unfolding of that same past rather than something new. He can’t suddenly like someone else first and then like Huiji a year later as if his feelings completely changed overnight. The story has been subtly building up his feelings for Huiji from the beginning.

I'm currently watching episode 20, and the spoiler I got was probably around the time episodes 11 or 12 were released. So, here's what I learned back then: two months after Haoming and Fang Yu's breakup, she went to him and told him she was pregnant-but it's not Haoming's child. Fang Yu had another lover, a painter in England, and she was pregnant with his child. I don't know why she lied about it, but the paternity test was tampered with by Fang Lie, and Haoming had no idea. Despite all this, he decided to raise the baby thinking it was his own. I'm going back to watch and continue episode 20!
