If I recall right, in the novel, she's also half human and half demon. Her mother was the former Snake Lord, a supernatural being. Her father in the novel is Imperial Censor Liu (human) and Snake Lord owns two tabby cats look exactly like Cat Lord, possibly gifted by Cat Lord. but Snake Lord would be born this way, contrast with Wu Zhen who was born fully human until the former Cat Lord saved her with the condition that she take over as Cat Lord and in the novel, it mentioned he swallowed her but then she showed up in her human form but is no longer fully human, so that means she's non-human but can turn herself back into her former human shape too. These spirits are all shape shifters. I think if a supernatural marry a human, the child can be supernatural or fully human.
