Well PoJ who is 9.1 on MDL got 6.4 on Douban. They are pretty harsh. I watched Archives: The Nanyang Mystery and…
I was talking about MDL at the top they have this verified rating, which is usually a step below the score, so 8.6 would normally be at least 7 to 8. A weaker verified indicated to me the rating might drop.
Even though it's totally different genre, I don't know why I was reminded of The Demon Hunter's Romance. There…
The Demon Hunter's Romance and The First Jasmine have the same director and same screenwriter. I didn't watch it but The Demon Hunter's Romance seems to have done really well, it has Douban 7.6 with over 202K user ratings. So, the quality of this production should be similar to that one I would think.
Love has fireworks Douban is not out yet. Legend of Rosy Clouds 3.8 and Never ending summer 4.9
based on 100 comments snapshot just now the Douban is 6.46 for The First Jasmine. I think they will be taking the most recent comments. My guess is the rating is above 6 and below 6.5, anything above 6 is a decent Douban imo.
My detailed review after watching all episodes:https://mydramalist.com/profile/10070561/review/582260
It’s an interesting review. You pointed out a lot of negative critiques yet still gave it an 8. The production value alone is high enough to justify that score.
Your comment about Bai Lu was especially insightful: “If you want to watch a drama where Bai Lu fits her role like a glove, with none of the draggy soap, go watch her previous drama — Unveil: Jadewind. It’s funny, but even that grim detective drama had more exciting romance than here, even though it wasn’t the main focus.”
Bai Lu’s voice delivery may be her best work in The First Jasmine. She didn’t use her usual husky/raspy tone, and the vocal shift really suited this character. This drama showed that she has more range in her delivery.
As for why the romance in Unveil: Jadewind felt more engaging, I think Wang Xing Yue’s acting plays a big part. His character on paper is pretty bland, but he managed to draw out subtle personality traits and even a quiet romantic charm.
I chose to watch this series because of Bai Lu, since I liked her acting in Unveil Jadewind. She's great in The…
The Double achieved over 2.24 billion effective views on Maoyan, making it one of the most successful Chinese dramas of 2024. The show has a Shakespearean vibe, mixing high-stakes tragedy with witty, sometimes absurd comedy. Since art is open to interpretation, your own personal taste matters less than how you see the story.
You think only CCP has propaganda? Every country, every government, every media (especially the media) has it. You just don't know when you're growing up in the country.
