Lmao, you're comparing ofl with abay? First time i heard them being mention together. Compare the two dramas rating…
If someone wants to come here to say OFL is better than ABAY, others have the right to express why they don’t think so. OFL is super popular and a huge success - maybe even bigger than ABAY, but people keep using it to criticize ABAY because of the same screenwriter. It’s okay if someone doesn’t like ABAY or thinks the script is bad—that’s their prerogative—but why does it need to be compared to OFL? OFL and ABAY are different works.
I didn't watch OFL except for some clips, I have no opinion of it, but merely stated some facts (which I've removed) why I don't like the comparison to ABAY. The person says, "I've been watching a lot of k/c/jdramas way back 20 years ago lol", says these two office dramas (OFL, ABAY) are the worst, and ABAY is the worst of these two. Even if this person is an expert, even if this person is right, I voice my opinion why I don't think so.
Xu Kai and Tan Songyun’s embrace is the perfect fit, like two puzzle pieces coming together, creating a sense of completeness and harmony. The director, quite the romantic, had the vision to capture their chemistry perfectly.
This rating is a prime example of how disillusioned MDL ratings are. On China Douban it is a 9.6 with overwhelming 82.5% perfect scores from 2.3M user ratings.
It would be better if Xu Kai could use his own voice because, in my opinion, he outshines any voice actor. While a voice actor might do an adequate job, they can't elevate the drama the way Xu Kai's performance does. They can't match his unique character interpretation or the genuine emotion and nuances he brings to the lines. His portrayal is more authentic and compelling than any voice actor could achieve. If they need to use a voice actor, it won't enhance the drama's success. It's a common practice and mostly ensures consistency. Using voice actors isn't a big deal to me as it is common in costume dramas, even great dramas. I do think it’s a disadvantage when you have an actor like Xu Kai who has such an expressive voice. Xu Kai is still relatively newcomer to voice dubbing. ABAY was his first experience in studio full dubbing, and he did an amazing work. If not this costume drama, I do believe that soon, Xu Kai will use his own voice only in all his dramas. His tone and expression can overshadow any slight accents, and his timbre is exceptional and rare.
Xu Kai participated in China's National Treasure Season 4 in May 2024, on stage ancient costume performance using his own voice and he was praised for his performance. Hs voice and delivery was strong and expressive.
Xu Kai mentioned the challenges of filming this drama during their normal sleep hours for 28 straight days and they had to find ways to stay awake during filming. That must have been really tough on both their work and personal schedules.

Even before ABAY aired, people were prematurely connecting ABAY to OFL in a negative light. But now that it has aired, I see no comparisons other than it is the same screenwriter. OFL is a love drama with a business setting as backdrop, while ABAY is a business drama focused on the ruthless and corrupt business corporate world intertwined with romance. The title is You are more beautiful than the stars or You are beautiful in Beijing, because in Han Ting's eyes, JX is a star who will shine. JX said gold will always shine, but HT said there is gold everywhere in Beijing, but he soon realizes she is the star who shines the brightest. He loves her for her tenacity, intelligence, capabilities, and personal qualities. He sees her as the one most suitable to accompany him in life and that their love can grow old together.
I recall in an interview, Xu Kai mentioned that he collaborated with the directors to eliminate any cringe-worthy ('oily') lines he felt the audience would dislike. This shows he understands his audience and his dedication to quality. Xu Kai’s involvement in shaping his character and lines, bring his own perspective to a role, to make it more authentic and relatable, shows he understand his role as an actor and his audience, and has grown in his profession.
In episode 6, just before the family meeting between MCH and her bf's rich family (excl. the absent father) was about to get more heated, the waiter brought out a dish and announced loudly, "Squid on Fire," torched it and left. MCH turned her head and watch as he torched it. After her bf made some remarks, she didn't take kindly to", MCH finally got angry and let her bf's family have it. That was some foreshadowing.
I didn't watch OFL after seeing a certain clip. Other than that, I have no opinion of OFL. I can relate to ABAY’s high-tech story of entrepreneurship, with whiz engineer JX and her talented engineering college friends, having been around such geniuses. It's a realistic portrayal of young, high-achieving technical people navigating their careers. It's also realistic that JX would meet HT in a college robotic project together, since engineers often participate in hackathons, robotics competitions, coding challenges, innovation contests, and maker fairs, where young prodigies like them often come out on top.
While 'Only for Love' touches on the startup world and professional growth, these primarily serve as the setting for the central romantic storyline, making their professional journey more of a backdrop to the romance. In contrast, 'As Beautiful As You' delves deeply into the AI medical field, highlighting technological advancements and exploring the future of medical AI. The story equally educates on the current state and future vision of medical AI, showcasing actual technology, materials and equipment, and the complex, intricate processes—including the use of 3D equipment— involved in making the product. It also portrays the harsh reality of startups trying to make it, especially those that want to retain autonomy. This unfolds alongside the personal and professional journeys of the main leads. It also emphasizes the human theme of using medical AI to help those in need. It navigates the competitive industry, intertwines professional growth with personal relationships, and exposes the corruption and ruthlessness within. ABAY is filled with lines that are educational, inspiring, and packed with real-life lessons worth quoting for personal and professional development.
When will this old hag who’s obsessed with the ML be gone? 😞😞 do I have to endure her presence until the…
She's a key character in the story. The actress does a great job portraying a very emotionally complex pathetic person. I think she's very good actress. In Chinese dramas, love triangles, unrequited love, and revenge plots with intense obsessions are classic themes. Zeng Di's character fits this perfectly with her childhood love turning into obsession and driving the drama’s tension.
Did u say ML or someone else got hair implant? I don’t think so.
A very minor one, they don't recommend before 30. He was probably just trying out a very minor procedure. Xu Kai is so honest opening himself up to criticism, but he doesn't seem to care what others think. Even if he gets a real hair transplant procedure later, it's no big deal. IT's not plastic surgery, but his own roots.
Bunch of stupid people roaming in the comment section, defending their favourite artist as if we can't say negative…
I don't see reactions different here except that there are consistently comments made on Xu Kai dramas, I will never find for any other drama MDL page. It's the tone, not the comment that people react to. This is my opinion.
I dont know why people do not liked it.xukkai was really good in this drama .i have seen a channell where they…
There are lots of Xu Kai haters, so it's expected. I don't know why, but there are. Comments directed at Xu Kai dramas you will never find for other dramas. It's not giving negative feedback that makes a hater, but the tone.
Trash story line even how powerful the leads are the villains always has the upper hand.7.5/10
The villains were defeated, how is that having the upper hand. Anytime, you have an established organization of old-timers who are elitists, they become ineffective. Its' usually young smart and bold newcomers who dare to take risks and change the world.
