The actor to play the father is 65 yr old actor, Ding Yong Dai. This is great for Xu Kai to work alongside older top veteran actors. The drama is rumored to start filming in November.

You're right, two of the characters you mentioned were 4 to 5 yrs younger but fantasy characters.
I looked up the age of the female character, Jing Qiu and if I read it right, she started at 25, Xue Ying’s Current Age + 3 Years, so that would make Xue Ying started at 22. Xu Kai was 27. But his character goes from human to God status and lives to trillions of years.
Also, the main characters in DOSE were in early 20's. Xu Kai would have been 24 and the female lead 23, so I consider this role to be close to their real ages. The male lead was half human and half demon, while the female lead was fully demon. The academy is not college but to become disciples to help maintain peace and order in the world.
OUATILM features immortal cultivation, Wang Lu was 18 yr old super genius and Xu Kai was 23, but the female lead was 31, so it works out. It's not easy to find an 18 yr. old to play that role convincingly.

I think XK’s character should be in most of the scenes, giving him ample screen time. It’s great that these short dramas are not female-centric, allowing his character to explore deeper emotional arcs. While short films may not be as popular, they provide valuable opportunities to expand his skills, do other things between filming, and spend more personal time with his parents. Plus, it’s good for his scalp to take a break from costume dramas. Instead of doing 3 or 4 costume dramas back-to-back, it feels like he is pivoting to expand himself, use his voice, and explore other genres as he approaches 30. These two short crime-focused action dramas are a perfect trial run for XK in this genre. Hopefully, he excels and catches the eye of producers and directors for bigger productions. XK has never disappointed. He is proving himself to be a versatile actor with a timeless appeal. Although he can play younger roles, he has never played high school or college themes. He prefers interesting, passionate, and complex characters with emotional arcs and transformation journeys. Even his teenage characters, like Jinzhao and BLH, are fascinating. Li Ni was in his late teens to early 20s but was very mature. These are the only roles where he played younger than his real age. All his other characters were his age or older.

JX never knew HT had a crush on her in college, they only knew each other maybe 3 months during Winter semester or quarter. She was only in a relationship with HT for short time (3 months?) before she found out about Hanhai.

In the merger meeting, the CEO's of both companies became VPs of their respective areas. The merger left both companies' development teams intact. Ji Xing was free to do her own products even though it might overlap, she retained independent rights. SZZ became director for XingChen only. Hanhai had its own corresponding VP and director. It's what HT had envisioned the merger to leave XingChen technical alone except of course operational should not overlap, and it was also what JX had requested. HT trusted JX judgment, professionalism, and technical prowess not to harm Dongyang Medical, although knowing her, she's a fighter when it comes to what she believes in. When she came back, HT even reinstated her original hire date, so she didn't lose any years of service with Dongyang Medical. She didn't go back to her old job with XingChen but got a higher position working directly with Han Ting on future strategic developments of AI designed to grow the industry and allow Dongyang to dominate. She was well prepared for this new role given her 6 months training in Germany studying future of AI under that famous professor. Her time off was productive, elevating her knowledge and mindset about the industry. This paved the way for her to play a bigger role and make a more significant impact. You could see how interested she was in HT’s discussion with Qin Lin; she even interrupted their conversation to emphasize the need for developing a new talent pool to grow China's AI Medical industry. When Han Ting offered her the role, he advised her not to decline the opportunity just because he was her ex-boyfriend. HT knew that JX was just as passionate about the industry as he was and shared his vision. While we might not personally know people at that level in the industry, such movers and shakers do exist in real life if you follow them. I actually find this story compelling and can happen in real life.

Tu did not go to college with them. It's not mentioned if she even went to college. Tu is a blogger and JX's roommate. In the novel, Ji Xing, Li Li, Yichen, Qiuzi, and Zhizhou all college friends and all in technical degrees but different years. Li Li was their senior, and Zhizhou their junior. In the drama, HT also attended the same college, not sure how long, but he only saw Ji Xing during winter. It was probably only 3 months they knew each other in college. In the drama, did Yichen meet Ji Xing in college or after college? I can't remember now.

I hope He Rui Xian has a good role. She is an excellent and proven actress even though she only gets supporting roles in YZ productions. If the role is good, she will shine.

She no longer had a company to run, or her own vision. She became independent R&D head for Dongyang Medical, and SZZ is capable to continue to support developments of XingChen. Sure, HT gave her autonomy to develop whatever products she wants, but there is always Hanhai products to consider too. It's not same. She resigned after the merger to take time off, further her learning in latest AI advancements, reflect, and think about what she wants to do next, She should have just taken a sabbatical but she wanted to cut ties with Han Ting. With the merger, her shares are worth more. She was super productive during the time off. Who knows, maybe she can start another company with her former employees. She now has as good reputation in the industry and is well known and has experience and connections. She can easily get funding. In the end, I think startup is not Jing Xing's thing. Working in a big company on advanced R&D with vast resources of Dongyang is really more suitable for her. The startup experience however was really good for her. It was a good thing for her to experience it, but startups are crazy life. I don't see how she can really avoid HT if she stays in the AI Medical since he is the leader in the field. I supposed she could work for an established mid-size or another big corporation in the field. Getting away did help her to understand things better and to refocus herself. Eventually, she came to see the benefits of the merger for XingChen. Even though, she didn't want to get back with Han Ting, it wasn't that she still held it against him. For her, the breakup was never about business interests. The relationship was unbalanced and made her feel scared.

Her goal was always about having autonomy. She turned down Han Yuan for this reason, even if it meant she has no funding. It was a fork in the road she was willing to take. Sure, Han Ting invested in her, but he promised her he'd give her two years of autonomy. They shook on it. She should have put it into the contract.

I agree what HT said to JX, "opportunity and choice are always more important than hard work."

As far as Xu Kai is concern, every character he has played pretty much reflect his own age except in two dramas. In Sword and Fairy, it is adapted from a game, he played dual roles, although his characters are teens, they're not typical teenage roles. Jinzhao does act like a teen, but BLH is very mature. In Wonderland of Love, I think Li Ni might have been in his early 20's and Xu Kai was 27, but Li Ni is mature beyond his age, so the age difference didn't matter, and anyway Xu Kai is youthful looking. In Best Choice Ever, he played a businessman who had been abroad, someone 2 or 3 years older than himself. In She and Her Perfect Husband, he played another character who had been abroad. The character, Yang Hua was 28 and Xu Kai was 26. Fuca Fuheng in The Story of Yanxi Palace, he played his own age, 22. In As Beautiful As You, he again played his own age 28. In Royal Feast, the young crown prince and later the young emperor in history was in his mid 20's as crown prince and ascend to emperor in his late 20's, was aligned with Xu Kai who was 26. In As Beautiful As You, they had a flashback of college days, so that doesn't count, he dresses like college students and looked like one. His female leads average 3 yrs. gap. Only two were 8 yrs. older, Sandrine Pinna and Yang Mi, but the characters were supposed to be wide age gap in the drama. He has pretty much played age-appropriate characters. He never played those high school and college roles other than flashbacks. In fact, he purposedly don't play detective or police roles unless he is past 30. In The Legends, Xu Kai had to portray a young boy in the beginning episode, and he looks just like a young boy. In ALP, appearances do not matter to True Gods. Falling into your smile, he is no longer a college student, and again he played his own age.

I wonder if this short film can be released in Jan or Feb of 2025?
