The Double is my first historical chinese tv series in 20 years.Remember Xiao Heng's Grandpa, General Xiao!?Yeah...the…
I know Ringo Yu from Royal Feast. He impressed me very much and I never forgot him. Did you find the ending in Ep40 confusing? I may be the only person who loved it.
if you scroll through the comments here on MDL, there are plenty of scolding on the drama and the director
I saw your review just now, but I need to come back to it to unpack it all. The drama obviously had a great impact on you. Your review reflects the sensations I too felt and why I was addicted to it.

There is no EnglishSub so I had to use translator which is troublesome, but I made out the part she gave credit to the director. She said "Director Hao JiJi inspired me, directed me, potential in my DNA, he stimulated it out of me", then the director was saying something about "Shakespeare is right".
Just wanted to say that WXY with his hair down and half draping on his face = new level of fire. I realize that…
it's the artist in this new director, he does everything with a flair, but no one gives him any credit, as if aesthetics in this drama just magically happens on its own
Seven Tan has cute vibes, energy, passion, and that unforgettable smile, especially the way her mouth curls. Her expressions are so cute. She's in a category of her own.
Well, except that the director, at first was praised, is now being scolded, so that has to be concerning.
A success of a drama depends on synergies between writing, acting, and directing.
The comments on Douban and MDL turned negative on this director which is concerning. The main complaint is that he prioritizes art over logic. This director has flair for arts, penchant for offbeat comedy, and fascination with sadistic themes such as captivating villains in The Double. We should also get sadistic scenes from him in this drama for its supernatural and sinister themes.
The Double was this director first drama if ignore the slapstick wacky super low budget comedy from 9 yrs. ago, so he doesn't have track record other than The Double which he received mostly negative criticisms. For sure, he can make addictive captivating scenes, but success of drama also need a cohesive narrative, character arcs, and emotional resonance.
Personally, I enjoy this director's artistic flair. I don't watch for logic but for entertainment or emotional impact. Unlike The Double, at least Moonlit Reunion supernatural theme should make plot holes more forgivable.
