I get why many people prefer Cang Xuan and Xiang Liu over Jing. Jing was not the typical strong, over-bearing, and possessive male lead. Instead, he was reserve, gentle, and witty on his own way. It was actually refreshing to see this type of male lead. I love the series but I hate how they didn't kind of put more emphasize on Jing's character or at least equal attention as they did to CX and XL. After 10 episodes or so in S1, it somewhat appear that they reduced his presence in the drama. It felt like his character was there so other leads' personalities and choices will be justified. Like c'mon, I need to see more of him, his difficulty, wittiness, and power. His character really appealed more to me. Either way tho, I love all the characters and the story itself. I just really felt it was a pity cuz it seemed they write Jing's character to be hated and overlooked.

I just started watching this and perhaps because the storyline was simply not my cup of tea so I'm on the verge of dropping it. My expectations turned out different as well. This is more like a family-drama with lots of familial schemes and it's rather slow-paced. 50 eps is quite long too and there's even a part 2.....I might not have enough patience. The casts' acting was great too, as well as the cinematography.

The FL here is so far my fave female lead from all the cdramas I've watched. She is very likable. Aside from her, Lu Ji and Wenji (and Tong'er) are also my fave characters here.

Title A Journey to Love Spoiler
BIG SPOILER ALERT!!!!! It's best not to read this if you haven't finish the drama yet.

I just finished watching it and I srsly now feel empty inside. I saw people arguing about the ending, some say it's a happy ending while some say it's a sad one. But I saw someone mentioned that according to the writer's interview, it has an open ending. That is to say, the ending depends on how you want it to be or your interpretation. Just go with which seems more acceptable and logical to you. But srsly, regardless of the ending, my heart will not be appeased. Not when Qian Zhao, Sun Lang, Yuan Lu, and Shi San died one after another😭 I want to give it 10/10 despite the flaws and some inconsistencies because I love the supporting cast and the development arcs of some of the character, but I want to be petty and rate it a lil lower. Their deaths felt unnecessary and rush. I understand that war is awful and everyone can die, but still.......

Moreover, Yu Shisan just joined Su Muyu (from Blood River) and Wei Wuxian (from The Untamed) as my top three most fave male characters in cdramas. I genuinely love everything about his character; his loyalty, humor, wittiness, and ofc his visuals too.

It's good but during the last 5 episodes I did nothing but cry. Their friendship and brotherhood are everything!! All the casts did so well, I especially love the supporting cast (esp. Shisan, Qian Zhao, Yuan Lu, Sun Lang, Ying, Jiu). I'm completely invested in their characters, undoubtedly they stole the show for me. They made this drama heartwarming and unforgettable. I especially love the character development of Emperor Wu and Yang Ying. Anyway, I'm just really happy because two of my fave chinese actors were in this drama together, Alen Fang/Shisan (from whispers of fate) and Chang Hua Sen/Jiu (from blood river). I initially watch this because of these two but ended up loving the whole squad and the drama itself. But I don't think I'll rewatch this, or maybe I will but only up to ep. 34. They coud've done better with the last 5 eps, I mean what's with all those deaths?

This is no doubt one of the best historical dramas I've watched. The depiction of what has transpired in diff. dynasties in central plains, wuyue, and the neighborhood kingdom; the war, usurping of throne, friendship, the struggle of an emperor were all phenominal. The acting were topnotch. Feng, Shuiqian, Sang, Shen, Wenqi's word of wisdom were an eye-opener. I love their scenes a lot. Anyway, everyone did well. The deep trusts between the princes of Wuyue was one of a kind. The romance between Hongchu and Taizhen were beautifully done as well. Lastly, Hongchu, Rong, and Zhao Kuangyin's friendship, leadership, and compassion were admirable.

This is def. one of the best cdramas I've watched. An absolute 100000000000/10. From the storyline to martial arts part to friendship and romance, everything were well-made. As someone who is very picky in romance and FL, this was sooo far the only series of which I've never ever felt any annoyance towards the FL or any female character in leads' side (I love how capable they were). To think that I even cried in romance part likeee omg I've become a diff. person. The martial arts was also one of the best I've seen. Muyu and Changhe duo was sooo underrated, they def. have good chemistry and them fighting side by side was one of my fave scenes from this series. I especially love the OST too.

Looking forward to S2 and hope the casting is still the same. I really love the casts and their character here.

is there any romance?
There is. And as someone who are not fond of romance, surprisingly this was the first series of which I really really really really approve the romance. The romance were beautifully made, even to the supporting leads. This series really has it all.

Is this worth watching. Trying to look for another one as I cannot move on from Pursuit of Jade. Needing another…
It is. I just finished watching this today and it already became one of my fave cdramas ever. However it still depends on your drama preferences, but still you should try this one. You will def love the leads and his companions.

When are they going to start the production? Can’t wait but hopefully the princess won’t be the female lead…
I've been hoping for this too. I love everything about the series but Princess Lin'nan character. It was unbelievably annoying gosh I don't want to hate the character too but I can't help it. Gladly, she only has a few scenes so it was skippable. Hope someone else will play Princess Lin'nan for s2, nothing against Xi wei but..... I don't want to feel the same for s2. After all, the plot is really good.
