😭💔 exactly. I hate NPSS for this. As for what I mean by changing events, I don't know how to explain it but what I surely don't mean is that Zhang Haixia can take down the Wang family on his own. That's not probable. I just think his mind is a great asset that would have helped key actors realize the Wang family's plots and piece together patterns and from that, the Nine Mystics and Zhang family would have something to work with because Zhang Haixia, if he survives, his analytical skills would be helpful to be able to map out things, which would change few events, especially if there's cooperation between him and other key figures from the Nine Mystics.

As for me, I think the Zhang Family started adopting people after the clan started crumbling. I don't think ZHQ thought Haixia would become dangerous in the future, it's just that she had to take preemptive measures, and in my opinion Haixia's intelligence is much more dangerous than Hailou's recklessness, because in the Wang/Zhang conflict, what was needed was someone who could notice the pattern. As for Zhang Hailou becoming the Director, I don't think he's much dangerous to Zhang Qiling specifically. He deeply respects the family patriarch and is loyal to the Zhang family, and at the time there was no other option for anyone else to become the director. Also Haiqi specifically, I think she's from the main line. And imo from the beginning the reason she gave Hailou Yang blood is 1) because she thought if something happens to her Hailou might be the one who kills Haixia 2) Hailou isn't a threat enough that she must intentionally put him in a position where ZQL can immediately dispose of him. I'm not saying Hailou is weak, god forbid, no. Wu Xie himself describes him as an unpredictable madman, I just think his "madness" cannot be a threat that deconstructs the psychological conspiracies the Zhang family is built on. And regardless whether Haixia is a threat to the Zhang family or not, he's still a threat to the chronological timeline because he functions as a character that can directly impact the Wang/Zhang conflict and change events drastically which would lead to the timeline getting messed up, and many plotlines not surviving till Wu Xie's day, so my opinion is that he had to die for the larger chessboard to continue on, and the future characters to have logical plotlines. I'm just trying to understand why Xu Lei would kill Haixia so early in the story beyond "The author wanted an emotional catalyst to force Hailou to grow" and why Haixia had to die or be removed from the story. + Clarification: I don't think Haiqi is cruel for wanting Haixia to have weakness the patriarch could control. It is her duty as a leader of the Archives and lines up with the Zhang mindset of looking at things long-term.

okay so while the reading the main series (book 1 to 8 + sequels of 9,10,11) i didn't pay very close attention to what exactly occured in republican era, and i didn't read Nine Mystics. But we know that the Greatest Grave Robbery in History happened in republican era led by Zhang Qishan, and the Zhang family started to crumble around that time, or at least, at that time the Wangs vs Zhangs conflict was intensifying. While the Wangs were undoubtedly calculating everything, I do not particularly remember where their influence resided or what exactly happened at that timeline. But my theory is perhaps 🍤 had to die because he was, quite simply, too smart to live. Personally when I think of the most significant Zhangs, Zhang Qishan and Zhang Qiling come to mind. Although both of them are smart, I don't think it is their most defining trait; they have their unique strengths and their smartness is a great another trait. But Haixia's most defining trait is his lethal mind, intellect, and reasoning. He has other key strengths, but his mind remains the strongest, and it is an absolute key weapon in the psychological warfare and mind puzzling conspiracies the Wangs wove, ironically Haixia, an outsider and orphan, is a great threat to the Wangs AND Zhangs. With his strategic and calculating nature, I'm sure he'd be able to decode the web the Wangs are weaving and notice patterns in their traps, as for the Zhangs, I think Haixia was raised to become the Director of the Archives, right? It's highly probable that the reason Haiqi gave him a tattoo with the specific medical herbs which lead to Yin blood constitution is because he is otherwise too dangerous. As an outsider who holds many secrets, will get into a leadership role in the future, it's important that he can be restrained and disposed of at any time. Zhang Qiling has Yang blood. So I think Haixia getting Yin blood is how Haiqi ensures that if he rebels in the future, the Patriarch will be able to control him & remove him at any time. Although we see him as a passionate youth here, I feel like, due to his intellect many plotlines would have diverged and changed, and the Wang/Zhang conflict would've been impacted a lot that it might have been resolved much earlier before Wu Xie was even born. So Haixia just.. had to go to preserve the already established timeline. It's just I am unsure of what was exactly happening to confirm or predict Haixia's impact on it. Xu Lei simply cannot allow him to live because he's a narrative anomaly.

"bonds like these transcend boundaries of romance"!! cannot agree more. some bonds are just more meaningful than romance. humans are such complex beings, not everyone fits the mold. especially Zhang family members whose relational priority centers on what connects them to the human world and anchors them, in this case Zhang Hailou, Haixia and Haiqi's "anchors" are each other <3 (sorry for the long yapping, this is not about censorship, just appreciation for the bonds in the series)

I mean you're right, but at the same time you can't hold up the Zhang family to a healthy conventional family standard. To summarize, the Zhang family acts as a large institution and organization, it's very unlike a family as we imagine it today. So things like this are not uncommon in that family.

Very much so. Many of the daomubiji things can be watched as standalone, but this one especially can be regarded on it own because it's a self-contained story.

I agree!! I also want to point we can more or less confirm Haixia's heart is on the right. When Zhang Ruipu died, the fake Haijiao stabbed Haixia in the heart (left) but he was saved. He also stabbed himself in the heart with a pen (left) on the Nan'an to convince his enemies he's dead but he was alive.

I'll switch to English to explain properly since my grammar in Arabic ain't that great go begin with. So basically if you go back to when Zhang Ruipu died, Haixia was stabbed in the left chest but he didn't die and the boatman was able to save him & on the Nan'an, Haixia stabbed himself with a pen on the left to convince the enemies he's dead. So his heart is definitely on the right, and if Hailou stabbed him on the left, he can still be saved but the one who died is "Black Haixia" who doesn't know that Haixia's heart is on the right. And honestly 😭 although I do agree with you, it was a beautiful story. I won't forget Haixia. He's finally free.
