Luan Nian isn't the perfect protagonist one is used to in dramas and he (and Flora) knows that.

Not defending him blindly but I understand why ep 18 unfolded the way it did on his end. The sarcasm he has when talking to her is a result of the pattern of finding out what happens to her AFTER the fact. He proudly calls her his gf outside of work while she doesn't, she literally only told Sun Yu and now Yao Bei about the r/s. She clearly still can't reconcile the power imbalance and feels they are still not equals.

Luke isn't perfect at all, Flora is sweet but she has her flaws the audience need to acknowledge too.

They definitely need time apart to work on themselves and realise the importance of each other. Can't wait for them to finally be on the same page and come back together stronger than ever :')

can fellow novel readers remind me (i read it quite a while back so some details are fuzzy):

in the novel they didn't put a label on their relationship until toward the end right? That's why i felt Flora was justifiable in not confiding in Luke about the incident in ep 17, iirc she mentioned smth about how she had no standing to involve him?

but in the drama they clearly put the gf/bf label that's why her reasoning about not wanting to bother him sounded less convincing.

so many false comments below. it's not a BE for the main characters if you follow closely when Qingyi is on the ground after the fight. he sees his loved ones, usually when you're dying which he is because of the injuries, but they're telling him to go back and return to Susu and Le An. They're not ready nor intending him to join them which is an obvious implication that he eventually survives, injured but alive.

why don't they just say straight up he lives? well, this ambiguity is exactly what we're talking about now right? anything for the buzz!

of course it would be even nicer to have a final frame of the family living happily after this ordeal but i guess this is what they intend to have more impact. sucks that all the other key characters died though, but i'd like to think their deaths were not in vain at all - they did it for what they thought was right.

spoiler ending by someone who actually watched through every dialogue till the end:

did u even watch it.... Susu is very much alive + Qingyi is heavily injured but implied that he lives because his hallucination of his loved ones are telling him to stand up

his loved ones telling him to stand up and return to susu heavily implies he isn't dying!!!

please givr overdo an objective shot and not just listening to what reels are saying with clips taken out of context.

the plot is very rich, hold on for the first ep 7 and after that the cinmetography improves+ plot develops even more

on a side note, can ZLH and WCR do a you are my glory-esque modern drama because these visuals and acting DESERVE that sort of calm, fluff, romantic script and not having me stressed out about their ending like all i want is my babies to be happyYYYYY

will never understand the concept of people rating a show before it even finishes airing lol. After ep 7 the plot grips you so hard you'll (almost) forget about the editing in the early episodes.

say what you want about the directing and editing but no one should talk any smack about the acting. both churan and linghe are busting their ass off, i actually feel so much of their inner conflict and emotions just within the first 5 eps

out of curiosity, would you say the same to people who give it say a rating of 4 or 5? from my understanding, others would give it 9.5 or 10s to balance out those glaringly low ratings (usually by haters of either actors). Take Our Generation for example, there was a wave of low ratings that made the MDL ratings plummet which caused many to not even dare start of the drama.

My point is, MDL ratings arent the bible on whether a show is good or not. It's mainly a forum where fans criticise or gush about the plot and how the show made them feel.

to me definitely the old emperor was inherently evil, the tattler was merely the tipping point. Happy to see the tattler's downfall being exiled and realising he supported the wrong faction all along though!

Personally even if part of a drama is liked less than other parts, if the overall story and production made me feel emotions and get me to rewatch certain episodes, i say though flawed, it's still a good drama.

Art is after all subjective.

In case you're wondering about the low rating, please be assured that neither ZJM nor ZLH's acting deserved anything less than a 9.5. There were waves of mass downvoting while the show was airing and many unnecessary discourses about both leads' characters.

As someone who read the novel, watched the drama, is a fan of ZLH since his debut and a muggle who greatly appreciates ZJM's acting, please give this drama a shot and try to immerse yourself in both Ying Tao and Qiao Xi's perspective in the show.

It portrays a, though idealistic, beautiful form of a love where 2 young people tried their hardest to give love as best as they knew how within their circumstances.

yeah the adaptation is not bad at all!! but novel readers can all agree that it's the 40 ep limit that probably resulted is so many cut from the novel. Though I'm glad the key scenes like changyu piggybacking xie zheng after she drugged him, the grand welcome of the marquis and flower-adorned general, both CY and XZ fighting along side by side, were all done so tastefully in the drama :)

they really succeeded in bringing the characters and settings (especially Lin An town) to life!!
