It could have been so good

First, the acting is great. I feel bad for all these actors for being dragged into this project.
The storylines were both bad, but I couldn't even focus on the problematic things in the second couple because of how horribly offensive (to me) the story of the step-brothers was. It's like the writer was stuck in 1995 and wanted to include all of the worst yaoi tropes possible.
I'm sad this is a part of the HIStory series. Although the earlier ones had their issues, the most recent ones were so good (Crossing The Lines, Trapped, Make Our Days Count up until the last episode) I genuinely thought we were past all these antiquated ideas and could let love be love be love. Too much to ask?
Judging by the comments section BL dramas should be judged by other standards than other LGBTQ+ media, and I agree to a point, as long as it doesn't promote and romanticize toxic behavior. Because of their popularity, BL series will likely be watched mostly by teenage girls, who might genuinely believe this is acceptable and even desirable in real life.
Overall, please give these actors a good project together, cause this one was not it.

Everything I could want in a BL

Is this BL or is it transitioning into a truly LGBTQ+ piece of media? For me, it's right on the line. The story is cute and fluffy but the issues that are raised are very serious and relevant to modern times.
Karl is sweet and relatable and "questioning" but Vlad is my fictional boyfriend and I love him so much! In episode 4 he says "I refuse to be a plot device that triggers somebody else's identity crisis" and I just fell in love with him (who can blame me? :))
The soundtrack is perfection (and I never notice music!), the acting is spot on. the storyline is great.
I know there have been some behind the scenes issues that a truly disturbing and depressing but I choose to honor the work put into this project by so many people and not let one bad apple spoil the bunch. Full marks!

perfect

This series, like gum, is PERFECTION. I will never get over it.
I can't say anything that has not been said before. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji stole my heart and I love them unconditionally. Jiang Chang, eh, I could live without, but my sister insists he's a poor misunderstood soul...
I love that they not only followed the book but improved it. I love that the romance gets through even despite censorship issues. I love that all, and I mean all, the characters are complex and their relationships even more so. I love that the main actors were cast perfectly and I couldn't imagine anyone else in their place.
If you only watch one series in your life, it should be this one.
