Jaysus! I'm boycotting this director and scriptwriter. WTF did I just watch?! This ending was so stupid. Mu Qingyan…
Can you believe the director is the one that did the Double? I mean that was so good, yet this is so bad. I can't believe it's the same guy! What happened to his artistic sense? Maybe it's his team and he just didn't have much of a say in the end. What a travesty because this could have been so good.
Slowly finishing this, now on ep 34 and just wanted to say,
what was up with CZ abandoning Yuzhi to die at the hands of her shifu? Does she have that much confidence that Yuzhi can fight back? Then after leaving, she flew away on the Peng bird presumably to go see if Lingbo is ok, but then she ended up forgetting about her and going to the garden to reflect on her memories as a child being taken care of by shifu! Where is her sense of urgency!?
I thought this would improve towards the end but the storytelling is too sloppy and I am feeling so frustrated and unsatisfied and actually shocked by how it is turning out like this. Anyway I see Too many negative points, plotholes & inconsistencies in characters and I don't know how if ep 35-37 can turn things around?!?
Honestly atp the best, most memorable thing about GtG is ZYR as MQY who really carried this viewing experience for me. I also enjoyed Cheng Hong Xin as You Guan Yue (he stood out in Moonlight Mystique & How Dare You? too!). That's about it!
Which episode does it reveal that the man in black is Qi Yunke?
Spoilers for the end of the drama show it is him, also in the novel (though I wasnt' sure if they were going to stick to the novel).
His character doesn't make sense, and another thing too that didn't make sense was how he was kidnapped during the face swap arc! I guess it only makes sense since the Li sect didn't know the identity of the MIB, so possible for him to be kidnapped. BUT if he's so powerful, how did he allow himself to be kidnapped and placed in the coffin?
I just started reading the novel so maybe it'll explain better what happened!
In epi 32, it's hard to believe that Qi Yun Ke is the MIB while watching him give his approval to Lingbo & Fengchi to marry! How can he appear to be such a concerned father & caring shifu but then just ruthlessly kill the Huangsha sect and so many others? What a disconnect in this villain's character! It reminds me of the Glory with Chen Du Ling and how the villainous mastermind there is her father, which didn't make sense at all since completely inconsistent with his actions & character.
This drama had so much potential to be EPIC because of the story, the Romeo & Juliette theme, the intense male lead, the friendships…but the editing, story development and flow have messed it up. Takes me out of the moment as I watch. In the scene of You & Xing wedding, I swear they repeated the scene of MQY and Shangguang standing next to each other!?! Lazy editing and post- production. It’s too bad because I really love the main couples from new and old generations.
Zhou Yiran is the really the one carrying this! If it weren’t for him, probably the rating will be lower.
I hope the story can end well and that MQY and CZ can have a HE…but it’s hard to see how this will unfold and also there are lots of foreshadowing that it may be a SE 😔
The only way our main couple can be together is to expose the identity and evil acts of the man / men in black. They can’t run away, there’s no way CZ will let her family, friends, Luoyang town, annd the martial world be at the mercy of the MIB. So while I’m sad that this story might not end well if they don’t succeed, I think this is the only way.
How can the 6 sect leaders condemn MQY for (Taishu Temple) Wang's death?!?He was about to reveal the identity of the man in black when he got stabbed from behind! CZ was there next to MQY and saw everything. Why not trust CZ? How must she have felt? The leaders are dumb & corrupt, wanting to conveniently place the blame on the Li Sect. This part was annoying.
Im also thinking the man in black is Cai Zhou shifu but doesn’t make sense that he was kidnapped during the…
If the man in black is Cai Zhou's shifu, and Nie Zhe answers to the man in black, then was the face swap scheme Nie Zhe & his strategist's idea or CZ shifu? I realize Nie Zhe & strategist don`t know the man in black`s identity, so they could be working independently, or maybe it is the shifu`s scheme but if this is the case, I don`t understand why the shifu planned this. Is it to test CZ`s ability to save him? Is man in black dictating all of Nie Zhe / demon sect's actions? Like even the Chang Fort massacre? Maybe I have to read the book!

And wow ZLH 😍 so great to see him in a period piece again!
