Four Stars

Read bad reviews for the first episode alone. C’mon guys cut it some slack. I think it’s not as awful as the review given. It’s a Lee Joon Gi drama so I will give this a break?

Chipmunk poop up your sleeve. Oh, yeah. This was "Truly atrocious."

Wow. I am so glad I have seen these actors all in other works. Thank goodness. If this had been my first time watching Lee Joon Gi based off this, I would probably never watch anything with him in it again! Goes for all the actors that I so. Wow. So bad. What was the director thinking? He has a how stable of talented actors, and he wanted them to act like that. It was all so awkward and over the top.

I watched Blood while it aired and sure it was campy and had a rough start. But this. I can't believe the updates I got for how amazing Scholar Who Walks the Night was and Blood got bashed. I. Just. No.

Firstly, the story is all over the place. The scenes keep cutting and jumping. It's hard to go from Sung Yeol reading the Crown Prince's book, to realizing that it's real. While there is no transition and there's flashbacks . . . that could have been sequenced into the timeline to I don't know, connect that the book was real? Point A to point B. I get it. The writers wanted to rush to the centauries ahead time jump. As soon as I can I'm gonna look up the writer and director. Cause if they have previous work before this . . . I'll be shocked.

Gwi. Oh, poor-poor Lee Soo Hyuk. Even his sheer sex appeal couldn't save his villainess character. Sure I melt at his voice and he has some of the least over the top acting. (Which is still over the top, just more toned done for this drama.) The hair though!! It's like someone wanted to emulate Interview with a Vampire's wigs . . . but then they went beyond too far. It's not a campy villain. It's just awkward.

Not to mention all the vamping out scenes. Sung Yeol's transformation was so painful to watch. So painful that I was reduced to laughing. In fact, I spent so much of this episode laughing at the sheer stupidity of it. This crap here is what gives vampire--and the whole supernatural genre--a tacky name.

I am so tempted to drop this drama now!! The writing is atrocious, the director is crap judging from the way the show is pieced together and the way these WONDERFUL actors are acting, and the music!!!! The music is painful. The whole time that music was playing during the love scene and then into the evil lair . . . I wanted to shoot whoever decided that blending those two styles to make romantic violin music and corny carnival tunes a thing.

I could ramble on forever. It's been a while since I've watched a first episode this bad. The will to drop it is so strong. I do not want to even give it 3 more episodes.

Oh, and how does the female and male leads first interactions go? She just played find the chipmunk in his garments. Of course the chipmunk bit her and now he's vamping out and got to hide it. Firstly, sexual innuendo overload. Secondly, where does that chipmunk poop? If he's living in her sleeve that means she's got . . . chipmunk poop in there. Which is ironic as I think that's the perfect way to sum up this episode. Chipmunk poop up your sleeve.

Okay. Okay, I'll stop. I'm upsetting myself.

Wow, this is so hard to watch. I'm not even ten minutes in, and already off to find something else to do. I'll give it at least an episode. I hope it gets better. When a drama starts out with action, it's always a bad sign.

Everything I hoped for

What a great start!. Lee Joon Gi is as intense and wonderful and beautiful as I hoped. Lee Soo Hyuk is delightfully villianous. What a great face-off this will be. Lee Hyun Woo and the bromance really made this episode. Kim Soo Eun hit the right note of innocence and sweetness as Myung hee. The pacing was terrific, with so much action, romance, angst and setup packed into one hour.
