A major newspaper has informally decided to employ a female university student. However, shock ripples within the newspaper because of a weekly magazine’s scoop that she is the daughter of the criminal in a serious case. This was the kidnapping of a newborn baby at a big hospital 20 years ago. The criminal demanded a ransom from the director of the hospital instead of the parents. But after the criminal had the large sum of money in hand, he died in an accident while being pursued by the police. The baby was never found. Kaji Hidekazu, a former hotshot journalist who has become deadwood in the wake of an incident, is ordered by the newspaper to re-investigate the kidnapping case. He finds out the shocking, tragic truth which had been kept under wraps. Edit Translation

Reviews
The drama is only 5 episodes long, so there's hardly any boring parts. The background music is amazing. It's so well done and fits the drama and the mood perfectly. I am really looking forward to the OST being released.
Anyway, this is seriously a must-watch. Best japanese drama in a very very long time.
A Journalist is trying to reinvestigated old kidnapping case by rely on his memories and networks he has. The drama expressed some strong element of guilty through each characters. They delivered different of perspectives and don't show judgemental to the character who involved. One thing was amazed me how the drama itself stick on media ethics and do key points to approach things. I love how the drama potrayed professional reporter to solve and reinvestigate old kidnapping case and not rushing anyone involved but to let them share the experiences and sympathies. The transition between past and present was so smooth. We could tell by cinematic itself.
Overall it's very satisfying to watch and character and story telling was made us to focuse and pay attention for each scene. Acting was very solid with numerous number of veteran actors leading the cast which made it easier for me to grasp the characters stories.
I am gonna put this drama on my top 10. I heartily recommend to anyone who likes watching a mystery drama. #KageriYukuNatsu is drama that worth every second of your time. It keeps you on the edge of seat.
