"The Wedding Day" is a recreation of "A Happy Day of Jinsa Maeng", a comical play by Oh Yeong Jin. The first Korean film to win an international film award. Master Maeng is very proud that an influential family will soon be his esteemed in-laws when his loving daughter, Gap Bun, marries their son Mi Eon. A few days before the wedding Maeng hears a rumour that his future son-in-law has a cripple leg. Regretting that he can't give his lovely daughter to a cripple, he decides to marry his maid Ip Bun to him instead. Unexpectedly the future son-in-law shows up at the wedding hall and he is not a cripple, but a healthy and handsome youth. Feeling embarrassed, there is no way but to wed the maid to him. The Wedding Day 1956

The Wedding Day is a fascinating film to watch, it was the first Korean film to win an international award which is something that drew my attention to it along with it being a 1950s Korean film.

The plot is fun and interesting, a family gets the opportunity to become in-laws with a prestigious family from the Bellflower Valley, Jinsa Maeng brags about marrying off his only daughter Gap Bun to the son of this family Mi Eon, however a rumour begins to go around that Mi Eon has a disability (they call him a cripple), due to this Master Maeng starts to wonder if he should marry off his only daughter to this 'cripple', the hatch a plan to instead marry off the maid Ip Bun who was promised to their servant Sam Dol. It's quite entertaining when the tides change and it turns out that Mi Eon is not a 'cripple' and Master Maeng has to marry off his servant anyway as he can't get his daughter back for the wedding in time.

I found the film to be quite an easy and entertaining watch and would recommend to anyone wanting to explore 1950s Korean cinema.
