An adorably beautiful and comedic film, the protagonists are undoubtedly the differential of the film for this story, I loved the Iitoyo Marie as Nino Okamura as well as Taishi Nakagawa as Yuiji Kira both had a very good chemistry.
Based on Rin Mikimoto's series of manga "Kyo no Kira kun" (published September 13, 2011 through August 11, 2014 in the Japanese magazine shojo manga Bessatsu Friend) the film is not that very sticky or very cold thing, it is a very sweet romance between two teenager, the parrot has a representative role that I found a great balcony of the director. The soundtrack is very nice as is the cinematography that gives the most romantic air in this beautiful love story that is worth it.

This movie is all sorts of cute, sweet, and romantic. It was neither draggy nor boring. I love how direct to the point this story brought its viewers. Simple yet heart-warming. It had a good mixture of sadness, and happiness. Most of all it had a happy ending! I definitely recommend this to people who are looking for a light fluff movie!

The actors are great, there were only few characters involved but acting wise, it was very well executed. I especially liked Iitoyo Marie's acting here.

For those who liked manga based school-romance drama this one will be perfect for you! Will definitely re-watch this again!

I always hesitate to watch japanese teen rom-com since its market targeted for teenager and schooler.
I give it a try just because it in my gadget :D. Yeah, once more, I don't expect anything.

Plot: Not bad. This is a light hearted movie, less dramatic and story revolves around those two, Kira and Ninon. If you have ever watched I Give My First Love to You, you will notice the similar plot but with different ending. I Give My First Love to You is more intense though.

Acting: It surprised me that Marie Iitoyo was able to act! I mean she looks better than in Mars. She reminds me with Tabe Mikako's first romcom movie with Haruma Miura. cmiiw
Btw, Yuna Taira looks so cute.

Verdict: If you have time to watch and don't wanna think about anything while watching rom com movie, this is for you.

Today's Kira-kun depicts the blossoming relationship between a terminally ill teenager and his classmate, Ninon.

The plot is something that will surely stab your heart a few times and twist it in a full circle. As Kira navigates the reality of his situation, he finds himself befriending the "odd" girl of his class, Ninon. The two protagonists lead the viewers through their woes and their relationship. A rollercoaster of emotions, a few tears, and a lot of cliche romance puzzle pieces and you get the story of Today's Kira-kun. This is just the surface that is developed throughout the movie, and most likely embedding itself in a place in your heart.

Overall, I think the actors/actresses did an amazing job of portraying their respectful characters. I especially enjoyed the rawness of Nakagawa Taishi's acting that's paired with the portrayal of Ninon by Iitoyo Marie. The characters such as Kira's best friend, Yabe, act as a pillar that support the story between the two main leads.

SIDE NOTE: In case you haven't also checked out the actors, their appearing in another drama together (with Nakagawa Taishi being the main lead and Iitoyo Marie appearing as a supporting role) which is the sequel to Hana Yori Dango. Hana Nochi Hare: HanaDan Next Season is also another drama I would recommend to those who like romance genre.

As usual, I find myself simply liking the music in movies/dramas. Although there's nothing download worthy in my fair opinion, there's also nothing horrible. I recommend giving it a listen still (as everyone has a different taste).

To conclude this review, I am most definitely going to re-watch this movie in the future. It hits the heart where it needs to which is what I find refreshing about Japanese movies, they wrangle the viewer into the story.

If you're into the rom-com genre and want to check off a Japanese movie from whatever list you may have, watch Today's Kira-kun. Either way, I recommend it to anyone who is into this kind of genre.

The plot of the story is very nice! I love all the characters and how they portray their roles. I would love to see Taishi and Marie in one movie again. I love how the protagonist changed and take risk for their future. The movie is worth watching it will not waste your time and I felt like I can watch it over and over again. Kudos to all the characters and to the writer and director of this movie. The plot of the story is very nice! I love all the characters and how they portray their roles. So, the story is so so, kind of cliché really, with the boy dying and
the girl totally clumsy but good hearted. All that suggested a romantic
story that you all know very well and still you're gonna watch anyway.
But, this movie has something that, at least for me, the rest of the
same plot movies didn't, the great performances. Especially from the
leading lady, who was really good portraying the naive girl who falls
for the bad boy. The romance, on the other hand, was okay, with the
first part of the movie seriously better than the last one. At least
the ending was good, so 6 out of 10.

Better than 95% of Japanese movie/drama's I saw

This show was better than i expected, I've seen my fair share of Japanese movies and drama's and this one apart from the typical anime type acting, the story, romance, kisses they were all executed very nicely. I actually was expected something else but it ended wayyyy better than I thought.

I am very impressed with the ML acting tbh, he was very convincing in his role, and you can see how genuine he was towards the FL. I could tell he just loved that girl and the way he cried whenever he shared his emotional thoughts was also very beautiful as well.

The romance for this show did not feel forced as well, I loved the way it happened, I loved the way how they seem to care for each other, an love each other. Truly one of the best Japanese romance movie/drama I ever saw, even though it was a movie I personally didn't feel like I was missing something, very content.

What a beautiful story!

This movie was excellent and it handled the serious story line very well. I was reluctant to watch it, based on the synopsis, but decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did!

Iitoyo Marie is wonderful as Okamara. This poor girl had some serious self-esteem issues! It was so sad at the beginning as you watch her try to fade into the background so no one notices her. Again, according to the synopsis, I imagined that she would be this strange character, only interacting with her bird, but that wasn't the case. I'm also glad that the bullying was kept to a minimum. We can use our imaginations and get the idea, so I was glad not to have too much of that.

Nakagawa Taishi as Kira - this is my first time seeing him in anything, and it certainly won't be my last show with him in it! He was terrific. You could really sense his fatalism and detachment due to his circumstances. He had a few scenes where he cried and it was very effective and not over the top. And he did a lot of smiling and he is absolutely gorgeous, so there is that!

The chemistry between the main characters was so sweet! They each brought an equal amount to the relationship and they were both better people for having gotten involved with one another. The film spent a lot of time showing them doing everyday things, which was such a good way to go, because of Kira's circumstances. I really felt the ability to bond with both of them and they were a joy to watch.

The secondary male character - I liked their friendship but I could have done without him yelling all the time. Is that a Japanese thing or was he overacting? I don't know, but that is my only (slight) complaint.

This is definitely a "rewatch" movie for me. Not too much angst, wonderful characters, the pacing was wonderful (no wasted scenes, etc.). I loved the innocence portrayed by all of the characters. The bright colors used throughout really helped with the overall feel of youth. Seriously, I can't recommend this movie highly enough!

This drama is not bad and not so very good. Because of its cuteness and pureness, it’s worth watching for. I like the two leads chemistry, their characters are not forceful and the development was spontaneous. I truly enjoyed the visual of our Yuiji Kira, he is so pretty.

Plot-wise, the story is not that original, we have seen several movies that deals with lovers with fatal illnesses. But what makes this movie significant is their relationship that both portray of their loneliness but was able to catch their time, simply supporting and loving each other. I think this all we need in reality.

This movie is the live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga Kyo no Kira-kun written by Rin Mikimoto. They have said that manga is better than this movie, obviously, in reading the story would be more detailed and it’ll explore your imagination.

Completely forgettable mediocre watch, though perhaps a good time-killer

SHORT REVIEW: This movie is fine to pass the time, but completely forgettable. I kept pausing while watching to do other things and eventually forced myself to finish the film because I was so disengaged, particularly in the second half.

LONGER REVIEW: I think the actors were well cast and had really good chemistry, but my God am I sick of female leads in Japanese dramas/films who are so incredibly one-dimensional. Of course, yet again we have a female lead here who is extremely shy and friendless, but opens up to the guy she likes. She is of course either really quiet and sweet or, when worked up, shouting her lungs out. These female leads feel like a copypasta at this point. Just a few days ago I saw another Japanese film (From Me to You) with a female lead who also fits this exact description.

SPOILER...I thought the wedding scene was slightly ridiculous. So you're getting married out of nowhere, with no officiant, when it's questionable whether you're even old enough to legally marry...Perhaps the "wedding" was dress-up? Which I think would only make the scene more stupid. Anyway, a thoroughly mediocre watch.

Brought me to tears so many times.

I loved this so much. I cried so many times throughout the film, some for sad scenes, but sometimes because it was so beautiful I didn't know what else to do. I'm not going to read any other reviews or comments here because I want to keep my experience of this movie all to myself. It left me with so much to think about. Really, really well-done.
The acting was first-rate. Taishi Nakagawa is a new favorite, and his softness under pain was powerful, but Marie Iitoyo brought her A-game to this one. For such young actors, they both exhibited such maturity and strength.

Great Story

The theme of this movie really move me. A student that has live with heart disease and how he has dealt with it thru the years. He meets a special girls that changes his life and makes him want to fights to live for her. He also changes her life from the lonely girl, who was bully to a girl with friends and is able to be sociable. The romance between them and the trust that develops from their romance. The friendship that is develop and how close together they become. Great story and the actors did a great performance.
