I will try to review this as a standalone drama first of all. (Rant about adaptation at the end)
The story line is nothing that we haven't seen before . There are some interesting developing here and there but it is kind of your typical weak to strong protagonist fighting against evil. The romantic develop between the character was good especially between Lin Dong and Ying Huan Huan. It would good to see how everything plays out in the second part (I wish they didn't split it up).
All the actor were serviceable and all the main leads did a good enough job. Sometime the dubbing is very noticeable but apart from that there are no major complaints.
One thing i noticed was the productions put a lot of effort into the set production. You can tell they probably spent a lot of money on set pieces and they tried to build a fairly realistic world. Of course there was still a fair amount of CGI.
The beginning of the show was very slow and I really struggled. However I still continued and I feel that the second half of the series is a better than the first half, the second half things were actually happening. Another thing I felt that was off through the series was the editing, i feel that sometime story arc seems to be rush or there is no proper conclusion.
Overall this was a very average drama.

Here is my rant about this being an adaption of the novel. Being someone who has read the book, I believe this is a failure of an adaptation. The book is very much centered around Lin Dong and I know this is a drama so they have to change things but the most important aspects should at least be kept but the drama does away with all of this. I personally believe that what make people root for Lin Dong was his drive and willpower to improve himself and get his revenge but the drama basically ignores this. For the most part of the series he either has character A or B helping Lin Dong and they have to encourage all the way. If you are a like the novel I do not believe many of you will like the drama so I will recommend that you do not think of this as an adaption but just a standalone drama that has similar character names and settings.

?? My Impression :
? This drama is a? new genre for me by all means ! I am not into manga, anime or fantasy dramas at all !! First 4 episodes were like a new experience to me ! couldn’t understand the story or adapt ?to its flow ! but by finishing ep 5, something like a magic has happened ! The story became so clear & each character too has became so defined ! at that moment I started to be hooked to the drama & kept watching all the episodes back to back & spent literally sleepless nights to do that ! I have read some reviews about this drama but I believe their disappointment because they read the novel or the manga so surely they couldn’t help but to keep comparing things ! Regarding the acting; though I am a big Yang Yang fan but I agree he needs to improve his acting more. Yet honesty I believe that he did already
a good job???????? it’s not his fault that the character required him to pl?ay the immature playful guy on the first 20s episode ! I think he did a great in portraying his character, if anyone interested to see Yang Yang acting as a mature adult, please go & watch him slaying these roles on Love O2O & the whirlwind girl but don’t blame the actor for conveying well the immaturity of his character ! About the story itself, it was an enjoyable journey for me. I liked how Lin Dong character has been developed over the episodes. In my opinion the flow pace was quite adequate, neither rushed nor slow ! Adding to that the fact that this drama has almost everything! Comic scenes, melodrama, fantasy, adventure, youth , friendship, brotherhood, family, loyalty, experiencing first love & true love, mentor - mentee relationship & action. Also the cinematography is so perfect ????????????????! for me each episode was like watching a movie! the quality of th?e effects? wer?e re?ally great, it’s indeed a high quality fantasy dram??a ?. The OSTs too were great & so wonderful.
?? My feedback & recommendation about this drama:
This basically will be divided into 4 categories!
1- If you are a Yang Yang fan; just proceed & watch it without any hesitation, surely you would love it ???????? It’s great to see a total new side of him portraying an adorable character like Lin Dong who is carefree kid, mischievous, playful & cheerful!
2- If you are a fan of fantasy drama, also would recommend you to check out this one because I believe it’s a high quality fantasy drama & deserves a chance to be checked out.
3- If you are not fan of either this genre nor Yang Yang, still would recommend you to watch it & give it a try at least till finishing ep 5, where everything becomes so clear, so you can have a better chance of deciding wisely whether to continue or drop it out though I believe you may like it just like me who have watched this genre for the first time ever yet have loved it ????
4- Here is the critical category! Those who have read the novel or the drama ! you probably would be disappointed because the drama didn’t take after the novel or the manga on their details specially about the main lead character traits ! I can understand your disappointment but maybe you would enjoy it if you decided to watch it without concerning so much over these differences !

this is just bad.
firstly, the story doesn't flow. there is no transition from one scene to another, the characters are just thrown from one scene into the next, making it real hard to follow what's happening. random black and white flashbacks which make no sense. the lack of explanation doesn't help either. random events just get thrown in very jarringly. some scenes are also extended needlessly. like those supposedly showing how demented or evil some characters are. i got it within the first 5 seconds, there is no need to keep showing them being crazy for another 20 seconds.
secondly, there's also little to no character growth so we're stuck with stupid choices and immature actions even when the plot has advanced quite a bit, which defeats the purpose of the story no? as you train and overcome obstacles you get stronger both physically and mentally. but no, the characters here just keep running around or feeling sorry for themselves. especially the main character. i have no idea what was the intention for the main character. is he supposed to rely on his wit? or is he supposed to learn some martial arts and become stronger? the show seems to lean towards the former at the start, showing him being weak in his martial arts and relying on his wit to get by. the show then just decides to ignore all of that and lean towards the latter instead. but that also isn't portrayed well, seeing how he just keeps failing at whatever he is supposed to do (which is protecting his family and whatnot). add the fact that the main character supposedly becomes stronger through shortcuts everywhere, i wonder what's the point. for a wuxia there are no lessons to be learnt, no morals to be had.
on the plus side, the acting and visuals are pretty decent though. cgi is on point, the actors also do well considering how superficial the characters they are portraying are. the costumes are also nice. but other than that, the show is honestly a huge flop. and that's with me just watching the drama, i heard that it was a poor adaptation of some novel.

This show start off quite good, I can see that they spent lots of cash on the set and CG... I like the first episode (especially when Lin Dong meets Qingzhu which I think is good cuz most MC from these novels make MC a headblock that doesn't have eye for beauties)... It's a Chinese adaptation so you should be thankful that they even kept the character's names at all (even though they dump everything else like 99.99% of these live action)...

But seriously WTF is wrong with Lin Dong character in this show?! Like WHAT THE ACTUAL FCK, He's a childish lecher prick through and through... I don't know if the actor is just bad or the director made them do this. But no matter how grave the situation is or how serious of a consequences is supposed to be... Lin Dong still act like a brainless childish prick through like 20-30 episodes of the show. Like during the Nirvana heart incident... WTF is that shit?!

Look, I get it, the directors and actors don't read the novel or manga so they had no fking idea what the characters is supposed to be like. And since it's a adaption so they had to change things to fit their needs and whatnot...But come on, at least read the description of these characters on Wikia or something... Watching this show seriously make me think that Dragon Ball Evolution is a masterpiece adaptation (no kidding).

I'm starting to think that this adaption is just a Samsara that Lin Dong is still undergoing before the final battle against the final boss.

Don't know why some say it isn't good, but it is good for me.
The beginning ppl think it's not good because the actor is acting same as how the anime is.
Stubborn childish and he's 14 at that time.
He grows more and more at each episode untill he reach 24+27
To the nirvana stage that he has to sacrifice his own lover .
Huanhuan is amazing the chemistry they have is much better then the goddess sister xD.
She gives a lot to him and cares for him so much that no man cannot fall in love with this kind of woman. Hair turns white and almost gone crazy because how she turned ugly ..
Overall ending was epic too . He gave his eyes up to kill the enemy . And still waiting for his lover dang.
Good re watch .

I didn't give this a full 10 because it took me until the 21st episode to catch my focus when I finally started to feel the storyline. The makeup artist did a good job creating the look for the Main Character Yang Yang from a young boy to a man. Both Female Main cast did a great job. Wu Chun did great playing his character the Demon. I did get emotional after episode 45-60. The Visual Effects on point. I didn't care too much for the opening song. Overall, I would rewatch! Thanks to all the cast. Thank you to the writers!

Watch at your own risk

I have also watched 2nd season so these is a combine review
When I saw this series some point come to mind
1. Eather some scenes wasn't shoot or that was editor' problem
2. Realy can't understand what's happening in the scenes, which are not related and unwanted things keep happening throughout the series.
3. Childish acting which may be problem of director or actors themselves.
4. The protagonist of the drama seems to be too week to fight against antagonist though he got special training by his master and he had many weapon. Sometimes he seems to powerful that he can crush antagonist in one attack and sometimes he feels like an ordinary man. He got too many power but he can't fight against antagonist that I can't understand.
5. There is no logic in this drama series at all.
6. What happened to Lin langtian? what I saw I think Lin dong didn't kill him, then what's the use of these whole gourney. Lin langtian killed so many innocent people he needed to be punnished.
7. I wanted to give zero star but I can't.

This story even tho its a writeup of a parallel universe in the WDQQ story it is in itself the worse story written in wuxia history, probably it has to do with the fact that it requires this much changes to be accepted as a drama in Korea/China, but let me tell you one thing is for sure, whoever was hired to write this parallel universe that has NOTHING TO DO with the original story, does indeed have talent, it is impossible to write such an awful script without it.

if you have read the novel, DO NOT watch this assuming you'll be getting a live-action adaptation of it because IT IS NOT, this is, at best a parallel universe in the same setting with the same characters and the same world of WDQQ but IT IS NOT WDQQ.

sticks fighting in the sticks

What a catastrophe that was. A childish, shameful and pitiful piece of television unfortunately fated to hurt its viewers eyes and ears since it's so very lame, that the word 'lame' itself feels ashamed.
But before starting to better explain why, maybe I should start with the few praises I can come up with regarding this drama since there are ... so very few.
The actors were amazing. And... well, that's about it. They were even more amazing, as you realize as you're watching them closely, that they seem to have the most painful time of their career trying to save this incredible piece of sh*** of a drama.
I honestly think that it's the first time, in my life, that I felt heartbroken for the actors, not because of their acting, or the actual scene they're playing, but because this ungrateful demonstration of their talents could never totally cover up the flaws of this terrible drama and the absolute incompetence (or motivation maybe ?) of whoever came up with the thing. You can almost feel their struggle, probably because of the seemingly absence of a planned direction, which only makes the flaws of the show more obvious.
But truth is - despite what I've said earlier - this show is not lacking work or talent, it's lacking 'intent'.
It's perfectly fine for any show not to follow its source (which is already not that great), since it will usually provides a new story or setting for anyone to appreciate the show. But seriously, how could this become *even worse* than the original story is beyond me. Basically : the show use some major events from the original source, but wrap them up, cutting corners everywhere it shouldn't and making it barely comprehensible, when not almost utterly absurd. Special mention for the (not intended hilarious) transitions from time to time from one scene to another, edited so badly that you can barely undestand what is exactly going on.
Whatever the reason is in the first place, this demonstrates a lack of intent, motivation from the staff that create this drama. Therefore, since the staff don't care, I had no reason to struggle watching this any longer and dropped this after 24 episodes, so far. Please don't tell me it gets better after that. I've heard that complaint before. There is absolutely no way that this drama could suddenly become a masterpiece after 24 very, very, VERY fastidious episodes. And even if it were to become better, the damage is done.
I can't recommand this drama to anyone, unless you're incredibly patient, forgiving and naive. In this specific order.

It's disgusting

God!! My favorite actor is Yang Yang, but after watching him here, I was like, "what the hell are you doing?!!" To be honest, he literally pissed me off! And so did that girl! Ying HuanHuan!! In one word, she's a spoiled brat! She's just too much!! She's always whining and complaining about everything in the world! She's also an airheaded girl. Doesn't know anything about martial arts, still she boasts about it. She's always shrieking and screaming like a wild animal. I don't know how Yang Yang fell in love with her, afterwards. This girl is the main reason why I dropped the show midway!!

The cast and acting is okay, nothing to nitpick there. However the story line is completely ruined. I understand that when good novels are adapted into dramas there are many changes. However this one was just too much, one of the main antagonists Lin Langtian is apparently some good guy, who actually cares for Lin Dong, and his father, and a bunch of other bull shit, and is only led astray or something. Complete BS!!! Somehow Lin Dong meets all the girls from his harem right from the get go, okay i understand they had to speed some shit up cause it's a drama. But somehow Ling Qingzhu is already falling for Lin Dong, like right away. Plus these two were suppose to start out as enemies, yet they start off as some kind of hero and damsel situation, where she is already falling for him. Yet one of the most BS thing is, in the drama Lin Dong is apparently really shameless, and his shamelessness knows no bounds, WTF is this!!! And Ling Qingzhu is falling for his shamelessness,... OMG this story is just completely ruined because of this. Plus the way the three brothers meet is complete BS, and the Marten's personality is utter BS.. Ai... there's too much BS to even nitpick that I'm already bored and tried of it.....
However if I never read the story, I suppose the drama is not all that bad, just a little to fast...
