COMEDIC HORROR!!!!
Ghost Ship has been a movie I've been wanting to watch for ages, like months. Finally, I actually watched it and I wasn't disappointed. One thing it did lack for me was that it wasn't scary. I loved the comedy side but I think it overshadowed the horror aspects for me. Like yes, there are a couple jump scares that did get me but overall wasn't as scary as I thought. But still, I enjoyed every minute of it.STORY/PLOT
PLOT. TWISTS. EVERYWHERE. The amount of times I was left mind blown from this movie was incredible, and the thing is that they are played out so well that you don't see anything coming. The biggest plot twist that occurred was with one of the character's Nick and what happened to him in the end (don't want to spoil too much hehe). It left me shocked, especially how they revealed such a thing. That's just one out of many that were played out.
Also the story in general I loved. The way it all played out and how everything fitted together was pleasant to watch. I didn't get bored from watching this movie, to the point I wanted it to be longer. I loved the concept of having the story surround the ship, it's not a unique idea but loved the idea nonetheless.
ACTING/CAST
The reason I wanted to watch this movie was for Fluke. Fluke is an incredible actor and his acting is so diverse. His character Yorla is defiently different from other characters I've seen him play, but he somehow suits this character as well. Even though I only knew Fluke, I fell in love with the other cast members as well. In my opinion this movie was casted really well, everyone suited their characters perfectly and I can't see anyone else playing these roles. I'll defiently have to check out more things from these actors/actresses.
OVERALL
Such a great movie. Not as scary as I thought but is defiently worth the watch. With me going into this movie with high expectations and thought I'd be disappointed, I was more wrong. I just love the idea of this movie, from the plot, to cast, to settings, legit everything. I'd defiently comeback and rewatch it over and over again and I would not get bored watching it.

Must Watch for Fluke Fans and Non-fans Alike!!
Scary Movie meets Ghost Ship (2002) meets the Sixth SenseGhost Ship is Comedic Horror Gold! It's not scary at all. Some jump scares here and there, but Fluke and the three stooges put all the horror in the back seat. I'm not a big horror fan, but I can definitely watch this with the lights off.
If you have some time definitely watch this because you'll enjoy it.
STORY:
Yorla, Kala, and Solui are working on a ship when they discover the dead body of Mia in the kitchen. They panic and wonder if they should tell the boat owner or not, but hey are disturbed by Nick, the boat owner's son. When the trio decide to get rid of her body, so they don't get blamed for her death. When they return to look for her body it's gone. Now Mia's spirit is loose on the ship wreaking havoc. Later they find a very much a live Mia and Nick together. They learn that Mia, Druglord Tao's wife, is having an affair with Nick and that he smuggled Mia on board so when they get to their destination they can leave and live a better life. The trio are relived at first, but if Mia is alive, then who are the spirits haunting the ship?
You must watch Ghost Ship! It's a amazing movie. There is so many twist and turns that it keeps you on your toes. The comedy is really slapstick and the trio, now referred to as the three stooges, are comedic gold! There is a smidge of romance between Mia and Nick, but of course we are here for the horror. The horror isn't really scary. It's a lot of jump scares more than anything. Still, it's a good watch.
Three Stooges
Yorla, Kala, and Solui are the heart of the movie. Yorla is a transgender woman who is working on the ship to save money for her surgeries. (So yes, aside from the heart, SHE is physically all HE at the moment.) A lot of the comedy centers around the three of them, although most are at Yorla's expense. (I should add that the scream queen of this film is Yorla, by the way.) Most of the film centers around them and how they handle the spirits aboard the ship. Some highlights include Yorla's hair pulling fight, Yorla and Kala's kiss, and the three stooges battling a spirit.
While most of the three stooges' screen time if filled with comedy when we hit the climax, the movie turns into a legit horror film and all the actors bring their A game. Gone is the slapstick, and here is the three men fighting for their lives. Kala, who later plays a bigger role towards the climax, gets a series action scene, while Yorla brings tears to our eyes after being shot. It's amazing how the actors can all go from making us laugh to worrying for their lives in a split second. That is talent.
Mia & Nick
Mia and Nick are the romantic couple of the story. They remind me a lot of Jack and Rose from the Titanic. They have a forbidden romance, and they give just enough romance to keep us cheering for the couple without taking away from the horror or comedy. Mia, as a spirit, is frightening, yet once we find out she is a live she is as innocent and helpless as every other female in a horror movie. Nick and the other "men" (since we have to include Yorla) are constantly saving her. My one concern is that the three stooges are the main characters for most of the movie, yet as soon as we hit the climax, the main character is now Mia and Nick. The ending with Nick really gets to me. It's so heartbreaking, yet heartwarming.
Tao & The Spirits
While Mia's spirit is set up to be the antagonist, the real antagonist is Tao and the spirits haunting the boat. I won't say too much since I don't want to spoil it, but just keep your eye out on Tao. He only has a few minutes of screen time, but that doesn't mean he's innocent.
ACTING:
The acting in Ghost Ship is superb, especially the three stooges. Yorla, Kala, and Solui are amazing with their slap stick comedy, but when it's time to act they are amazing. They can make you go from laughing your eyes out to crying your heart out in a split second. Especially Fluke, who plays Yorla. If you've seen his other roles, and you watched this movie without knowing he was in it, you wouldn't be able to tell it's him. Such an amazing actor.
This film incorporates comedy, horror, romance, action, and everything in between and all the actors are able to pull each scene spectacularly. This is really underrated gold!
OVERALL:
Definitely watch this film because it's amazing. At a glance it doesn't seem like much, but it has cult-classic potential to the max. It's really underrated and I wish more people would watch it.

What on Earth have I just watched?
The English title "Ghost Ship' is a bit misleading, since the ghosts were more like zombies, but whatevs... The headline of my review expresses well how I felt when I reached the end of the movie, it gave me the exact same vibes as The Dawn of the Dead many years ago. It was too ridiculous to be scary, but I think it was deliberate (it's a horror comedy after all), at some points I felt like the movie parodized itself. I don't regret watching it, but I don't think I'd ever rewatch. (To be fair, horror is not my genre to begin with, every now and then I like to watch one, but then I can go for years without missing it, so... It's not that bad, just not my cup of tea.)Was this review helpful to you?

oddly charming
I didn’t expect to like this movie at all after the cheesy trio started hamming it up, felt weird in a “horror themed” movie but I see this as a mystery comedy more than anything which is what I think the directors were going for and they did amazing all things considered, you get some decent attachment to the characters and while it isn’t all that strong you do feel a twinge of pain when you get that reveal at the end and it makes it all worthwhile. it’s a bittersweet ghost story and I recommend it, but I wouldn’t prioritize it over much else but that isn’t to say it isn’t good. Was this review helpful to you?
