I can understand the reason for the low ratings, but...
This is basically a remake of the tv show Black Mirror, the dating-app episode called "Hang the DJ" (season 4 episode 4 on Netflix). While I can understand the reason for the low ratings, I just can't give it a low rating, considering the whole storyline, including the setting. Before I get started with the good, let me tell you the bad:
•The female lead cheated on her first boyfriend, but this is the reason why it doesn't work out with the person she cheated on him with. The male lead knew she had a boyfriend and moved really fast in their relationship; it was more of an infatuation than it was love.
•The female lead allowed her cousin to bully her, but it was because she had childhood trauma. She does heal from the trauma in season 2 episode 6.
•The message in this drama was that "we cannot control our feelings." I hate that message because it allows people to justify their obsession, sexual harassment, and stalker behavior towards another human being. BTW, in season 2 we see what happens in episode 5 when people don't seek help to control their feelings.
Now to the good:
•I love the way that the screenwriter wrote this story, meaning how it is told (from past to present, and present to past)
•I love the fact that this drama was only 9 episodes. Sometimes K & C-dramas have way too many episodes with way too many fillers, and that takes away from the storyline.
•If you watch this drama and understand the setting (high school age kids to young adults), you may like this drama too as it is a realistic feel good romantic drama. Again, when watching this drama, it's showing romance of high school age kids.
Not bad, but not good either:
•The two male leads were friendenemies (not really friends, not really enemies).
•Both the female lead and male lead characters had childhood trauma, specifically fear of abandonment. Thus, the male lead clinged to the female lead, thinking he loved her but really it was more out of fear. The female lead ended the relationship with the male lead, thinking she loved him, but again, it was out of fear. To be fair, most romcoms tend to have a toxic definition and understanding of what love really is. Note: the female lead and male lead were only together for 6 weeks...6 weeks! So, it shouldn't surprise anyone how she was able to move on from the relationship. What I find weird is how someone can still not be over someone 3 years after dating them, and they were only together for 6 weeks while in high school. So I am glad that the female lead moved on after high school. Although, I liked her with the male lead while they were in high school.

Did they get new writers for the second half?
I was quite worried going into this drama because everyone only ever has bad things to say about it. Episodes one through the first half of episode five were pretty decent. Just your very standard romance kdrama. I was really enjoying it and didn't get why it was getting so hated on...then came when Jo Jo and Sun Ho got into the accident. From here on the show just got insane. They were starting plotlines that went nowhere, romances that went nowhere, Jo Jo and Sun Ho became a bit unlikable, and the editing of going back and forth between after the accident and the present was so badly edited. The only thing that stayed good was Hye Yeongs character. Everything else went to shit. People were suddenly dying because of the app, Dokgu commits, the aunt and cousin somehow got worse...I could keep going but I won't. The way the finale ended didn't give finale ending either, more just like an episode ending (ok that's my last complaint). The actors all did a great job I will say. The only reason I watched it is because I love Song Kang and am watching everything he's been in, but just wow. I just don't know what went wrong in the writing room after that accident, but it wasn't good. Was this review helpful to you?

Good start, declined significantly
It was a hard fight to finish this. I liked the idea of the story, which is the reason why I started this drama, but I really had a hard time. There was no chemistry between the characters, Whether it's a friendly relationship or a romantic one, they come across as lame and simply forced. Even for a drama, these characters were overly dramatic. In my opinion, the ending made it even worse. I liked the aesthetics of the series, but that was it.Was this review helpful to you?

My first kdrama.
To be honest, this show was a bit boring and slow. It maintained an underwhelming feel to it the entire time and the plot seemed to lack a strong direction and progression. I actually found myself watching it in 1.5x speed at a certain point because I just wanted to complete the show for the sake of not leaving things unfinished. And even when I watched at that speed, I sometimes had to double check if it was still fast forwarding lol.The cinematography is quite satisfying. They maintain a dream-like color scheme and lighting that makes the sets and characters feel very classy and chic. It's obviously unrealistic, but it achieves a romantic and emotional atmosphere. The actors and actresses were also solid. I thought their performances were done well enough.

Waste of time
This k drama is one of the worst kdramas I've ever watched. This show has no proper storyline. Kim soo hyun cries a lot. She cheated on her boyfriend by kissing the ml and acted like a victim. Even, the ml's character is super boring😑.So, a short summary is that don't waste your time on this useless and brainless show

What a disappointment...
After the episode where they both had the motorcycle accident, I was confused...They cut off their relationship without explanation, which made me look for what the story would be like next and I was disappointed...
I won't continue watching this K-Drama and I won't set my eyes on Season 2.... #disappointment
I don't understand how they broke their relationship, the development of each character could have been so good and could have grabbed the fans...
They could have developed his character, who was kind of destroyed by his parents, based on the love he felt for her...
They could have developed her character based on the difficulties she overcomes with her family...
There was so much to pick up on in the story, it could have been perfect and full of drama and love!

Had so much potential…
I finally watched this drama after delaying it for so long due to the dissatisfaction many viewered had. Now after I watched it, I completely understand. I have a like-dislike relationship with this drama. I felt like they left a lot of stuff out and I’m just extremely confused on what’s happening, yet I couldn’t stop binging it. I kept thinking I missed an episode with all the empty plots and then the time change was a mess. It had so much potential especially since the idea of a love alarm was highly interesting to me. I feel like it wasn’t executed the way it should have been. I will watch the 2nd season to see how it plays out, but definitely not something I would rewatch. However, I heard the 2nd is worse than the 1st. I love Song Kang thoughWas this review helpful to you?

Nice and frustrating at the same time
Why I liked it: Love Alarm is a versatile k-drama that offers both romance and smiles, but also shows a lot of burdens that the characters experience. It shows relationships in many different forms and has the ability to make you happy and sad.
Could have been better:
Okay so I actually liked most of the plot except the main theme, the application Love Alarm. IT IS NOT NEEDED FOR CONFESSING YOUR FEELINGS. And the character’s obsession with it drives me crazy. Like how realistic is it to pull up an app while you’re emotionally hurt, just to see if your girlfriend who wants to break up with you, actually doesn’t like you anymore. Build more sincere relationships instead. So sorry, Love Alarm is good but without the actual Love Alarm.
I literally found all the characters more or less annoying.
List of why I disliked some characters:
Kim Jo Jo: How could she not tell Hwang Seon O why she wanted to break up?
Hwang Seon O: Dated Lee Yuk Jo while still having feelings for Kim Jo Jo and not even liking his current girlfriend. I think he was a bit overprotective as Kim Jo Jo’s boyfriend too.
Park Gul Mi: Probably the most obvious one, treated her cousin very badly, for instance she stole from Jo Jo. I just have to mention how stunning she was though, like I couldn’t take my eyes off her.
Kim Jo Jo’s “friends”: Don’t even get me started.
Kim Jo Jo’s aunt: Pretty obvious too, but I feel like she had some, even if very little, potential in the end of the series.
Hwang Seon O’s parents: How can you want to kill your own child, hate and talk about him like they did? I feel very bad for Hwang Seon O.
Honorable mentions to actually nice people:
Kim Min Jae: He seemed very nice and caring.
Lee Hye Yeong: My favorite character, the only flaw I can find is he dated his best friend’s ex.
Lee Hye Yeong’s mother: So sweet and caring.
Also need to say that while I don’t like Il Shik, I think he got better after Kim Jo Jo broke up with him.
Why did Love Alarm end with such a cliffhanger? I also feel like the flashbacks and the sudden four year jump were handled poorly, which made the story unclear and confusing.
Overall, the story was very frustrating but still enjoyable. A lot of question marks and weird decisions, but still a good show lol.
Realizing now that my review has been very focused on the negative aspects but I can ensure that I most of the time really enjoyed watching it. I’m excited to watch the second season!

Bruh
Honestly one of the worst kdramas I have ever laid my eyes upon. Quite frankly, I barely remember it because that’s how bad it is. The one time I trust the internet and this is what happens. If you missed out on this drama when it came out and are willing to watch it now well I hate to blow your bubble but don’t even think about it. I mean, ofc you can you don’t have to listen to me you can do whatever you want but I’m just tryna save the time that you’re going to waste and ur eyeballs. I remember finishing season 1 thinking that was it until season 2 came out not long after. If ur curious to know what happened in season two well don’t be cause I didn’t even watch it. If your curious to know what happened in season one well don’t be cause I forgot that shi already. At the end of the day you can do whatever you want but don’t say I didn’t warn u.Was this review helpful to you?
Fanfic Junk!
Oh dear! How could a full production team, crew and cast members be this damn oblivious to what they're making! The drama was the apotheosis of human failure, an insidious plague upon the landscape of television, a wretched abomination birthed from the depths of creative bankruptcy and soulless commercialism, a festering wound that infects the very essence of storytelling with its repulsive presence. Its premise was a nauseating blend of techno-narcissism and romantic idiocy, an affront to the intelligence of any sentient being unfortunate enough to bear witness to its abomination, a grotesque mutation of what once passed for entertainment. Characters were grotesque caricatures of humanity, mere vessels for the perpetuation of vapid romantic fantasies and insipid melodrama and their interactions were a cacophony of soulless platitudes and contrived emotional manipulation, each scene got progressively worse than the last. The writing was an insult to the very concept of coherent narrative structure, a labyrinth of a garbled mess and mind numbingly banal dialogue that defies comprehension. In fact, this drama wasn't just bad television, it was an abomination of the highest order, a blight upon the collective consciousness of humanity and the very fabric of reality itself that must be expunged from existence with extreme prejudice. Anyone who dares to defend this abhorrent monstrosity deserves nothing less than eternal damnation, condemned to spend eternity in the deepest, darkest depths of cinematic purgatory, tormented by the ceaseless repetition of its insipid drivel until the end of time itself. Anyway, it could've been worse, I guess. Was this review helpful to you?
