The Message

These are my two favorite adaptations of the novel! 'The Message' is a thriller full of unreliable narrators while 'Phantom' is much more of an action movie, but both have excellent chemistry between their female leads and a satisfying story.

Where Colors Dream is essentially a spiritual successor to the 2020 adaptation of The Message, built entirely on the same iconic character blueprint.

The sharp-witted accountant Jiang Xinyu matches the cold, brilliant logic of code-breaker Li Ningyu, while the free-spirited painter Xu Yanzhen echoes the fierce, instinctive survival traits of Gu Xiaomeng.

Set in the high-stakes Republican Era, both shows ditch typical physical action for a high-IQ psychological chess match. As they navigate a deadly web of art forgery, financial fraud, and political conspiracies, the two women form an intense emotional bond—becoming intellectual soulmates who must rely completely on each other to protect national secrets and survive.

Both are Republican Era dramas (Couple of Mirrors' is set in the 1930s and 'The Message' is set in 1941) that feature two female leads with excellent chemistry.
