rather search for a short version - only MEW / Pree Storyline

After I saw Thanrtype, I wanted to see other BL Series with Mew. The only good here at this show were the few hot and other scenes with Mew - everything else pure waste of time (and material). Such a pathetic guy like this Rambo (mews friend here), I would need puke. How can Pree (Mew) loves someone like this pathetic liar typ . Awful. I am glad that Mew has the Thartype's main role. i will watch it again to recover from this weak series. if here es someone only for MEW, and has not yet seen - go on YouTube and rather search for a short version - only MEW / Pree Storyline - if there is some. It saves your valuable time. Same for season 2.

An official review to this series.

This is my first time submitting a review since like, 2017 so bear with me here.

I recently re-watched this back in 2020, to again re-watch in 2022. And I have to say, the title suits the events going on very well.

The couples were surely an interesting match as the actors played with their chemistry really well. They portrayed slowburn type of tropes, messy and abusive ones. and failing ones as well. It was a messy storyline yet somehow you can keep up with it, if people know what I mean.

It's not written good, but the acting, the setting and anything else made it bring more to it. :)

I watched this subtitled by someone calling themselves 'Lazy Subber', who nevertheless were not lazy to type hundreds of their own comments extra to the subtitles.

Series include some awkward scenes and kiss scenes and bed scenes and over the top scenes that won't leave you at ease in your seat so there IS enough to comment on. It is at times very entertaining to read it, nevertheless it also kinda distracts the viewer from the actual content being... a VERY uneven work, as a drama series piece. The added commentary is actually the only consistent thing the viewer can count on, here.

But then, what can I expect from the series that is called 'What the *uck' (everyone can obviously imagine 'F' instead of the 'D':) There's lots of sex and stupid behavior so that's why this won't bore you but I can't vouch for any other qualities, LOL.

For 20 episodes this was quite long and not very eventful, I mean what happened in like episode 17 might as well happened in episode 2:) On the other hand, one of the boys STILL didn't come clean to his female date and I didn't get it. Well, one of these days BL scriptwriters would have to come up with some actual script rather than always adding "unsuspecting" girlfriend to the mix. It's getting old.

It all kinda felt like it didn't really have a story and if it was really "adapted from a novel", then I can't imagine that novel, LOL. Or maybe I can, after all anyone who can write can write, we know since Twilight, heh. In today's times, where we have internet posts which are so "popular" they get published as a "novel" in the end, we have a result like this. There is even a sequel to this (in compare this 20-episode season, the second has only 8) so fingers crossed. Else it really can be called 'Boring Love'.

gay is gay

I'm just wondering how a man can like another man and not be gay? And please stop being ashamed of being gay. It's so stupid, too many situations like this in BL series. It's just sad.

I watched it some time ago, so the ratings besides overall and story aren't accurate.
I don't really want to say anything else so i'm gonna write something to get the minimum character amount haha, sorry.

I didn't like the main couple. Didn't care for them and if they somehow faded into the background for the second season, I wouldn't mind one bit. The ratings i'm giving really is just for the MEW/ART - PREE/RAMBO pair. These guys should have taken main focus. Though their relationship in the story really is a shitty one but these two have so much chemistry it's beyond me.

Overall, only reason I won't give it a ten is that the more interesting couple is support rather than main. Otherwise I'd rate this show higher.

Rewatch Value: I'm a Mew/Art-Pree/Rambo whore so yeah I go back just to watch them suck on each other's lips. (wipes drools).

If you want you wast your time watch this drama .the main lead that is pop and oat i must say there are lot of people who say that they have chemistry i don't thing that they even have and oat the most annoying behavior in the history of BL,he is soo annoying that he follow everywhere pop goes .i must say they are the only couple that i wish not to have a happy ending in this drama .i happened to watch this drama because of mew and art they were cute couple and they had there chemistry so well but in the end they had to break up ,but this couple also tells the fact that in the partners must be loyal to thee relationships .over all it wasn't the way i expected ,it's just a waste of time

Okay so originally I was not sure how to rate this or even feel about the show. As I started watching it because I wanted something that had a more mature feel to the relationships.( I know my mistake this is the wrong drama for that.) But I had just finished Together With Me and wanted something that was just as amazing and real, with like real world couple problems. I looked through quite a few YouTube recommendation videos before finally settling on this series as my next one to watch with those expectations in mind.So with that being said...

I legit can't tell if my frustration with this show stems from my high expectations going in? Or my high expectations from the previous drama I watched before.? But this series has really let me down. I am on episode 15 and I am still really unsure of why I am still watching it. Like, I am watching it, but for the most part its cause I'm like... well I wasted all this time and I'm almost done so eehh might as well?

Review wise here are some of the problems in this drama. AND THEY ARE NOT SMALL ONES! Sorry Guys :

Mo: Oh Mo Mo MO. I am not a fan of Mo(the girl who plays Plern Pleng in Together With Me). She can tell there is something going on with her boyfriend but clearly ignores it. She never stands up for herself when she is tormented by shallow idiots. And the many people who offer out their hands to help her well those she shuts them down every time. It's like she is a glutton for punishment. And with my first point, she knows that she and her boyfriend have grown apart and yet she is clinging to him ridiculously. Even though it is really easy for us the audience to see she doesn't even have feelings anymore for him. It's like she is too scared to do anything but play the victim so she can hold onto things that aren't hers which bothers me. Because when you have the power to stop and change things but don't because you simply don't want to change ever. Well that's just What the Duck?

Pree and Rambo Coupling: God I actually hated this for the entire series like the only time I liked them together was their introduction in the first 5min of meeting them when they had just woken up and Pree wanted sex(oh yeah spoiler) But I didn't like it because of the sex. I liked it because it felt natural like this was the two of them at their most pure natural form of love. Ignoring all of what the world thinks and just being with each other. (It lasts about literally 5min of this drama before they throw that storyline out the window and go for big drama ) It was a great storyline they shoulda kept with it the fact they throw it out and add unneeded drama to this series makes you literally go What the Duck? (its only needed if Pree and Pop end up together, i'll get to this idea later. But if they do that then this makes sense as we need it for Pree.) Otherwise this drama could do with some real pure innocent love between to people without any obsticles just having each other to lean on with just basic everyday kinda problems

.Pent: All I gotta say is this guy was creepy and throwing him in there made me dislike Rambo(I am so sorry Art love you) even more. Like, that he would resort to that just because of his own bad decisions. Pree was asking for some time because he had to come to terms with the bad decisions Rambo had/was making. He didn't mean Rambo should add more bad decisions with this creeper.

JeezOkay so now we get to the main couple which for me was the very worst of all.

Oat and Pop: Good god this was a mess. Cute mess at times, but god a mess! Oat falls in love with a man despite being straight because Pop reminds him of his mother who died and he wants his mom back...(Great but where I'm from we don't screw our mom's or date them soo...-.-) Pop is this gigantic idiot who is supposed to be feeling confused about having feelings for Oat(which his feelings I seriously think come from the sheer amount of time Oat just forgoes listening to Pop ramble on and on about personal space. And instead constantly forces himself closer and closer to Pop making Pop confused about his true desires and sexuality.) (IMO if you think you can be with a guy and its crossing your mind but you get it up from girls you Bi baby not Gay but meh anything to get Pop with Pree hehehe >.<) I really think these two are better off as friends. Pop is actually shown as full on attracted to women a few times in this series and when Oat does something he generally shrugs it off with indifference(not full blown heart thumping out of my chest, cant eat cant sleep love/attraction). The only time he starts to show feelings is way later on in the series where he is flashing back fondly to all the times Oat invades his space and forces himself close to Pop. That's not love that is called Stockholm syndrome. Also, side note that has nothing to do with anything, but just my observation. The guy who plays Oat is not good looking at all. IMO.But for me the best thing so far I can find in this drama is...

Pree: I think his character (despite lots of other lousy acting by the rest of the characters here and there) in comparison is just so well done. I think he does a few minor stupid things(what human doesn't). But I think in general his character had the most growth, the most self-realization, and the most caring side for those around him. I mean imagine being in love with someone for 5yrs and just letting them go because you can't stand hurting someone else( I think Im too selfish for this... >.<) Imagine blindly trusting someone because they asked you to, even though you feel vulnerable and unsafe in doing it. Imagine standing up to people who are scared of your very existence being contagious or filthy and showing them that you're okay with being you despite their backward vulgar thinking.

Pree has a deep forgiveness towards those who hurt him. And even though he has outbursts here and there and makes small mistakes. He recovers and does something to fix it(Like all us living beings outside dramas do... Rather than letting them fester and then lying about them. I'm looking at you Rambo). Pree's character is so endearing!I especially love the Pop and Pree interactions. They made me so happy*squeal* If Pop were to fall in love with a man and become Bi/Gay I hope it is with Pree. The two of them are like soulmates. They both listened to each other and talked to each other with their problems in life(when Pop talks about wanting something more and to become a steward and take the exam again)(When Pree selflessly gives and offers anything Pop needs without question or complaint.) When Pree is hurting and needs someone Pop is ready to listen and offer his very best advice he can even if it is like a 5yr olds advice).

They really leaned on each other immediately when they needed help they felt like they couldn't find anywhere else. In drama land and true life, we call these best friends/soulmates they are hard to find so grab them when they come! In this drama these two really were true friends. Not the mess of whatever odd mother lusting Oat had for Pop and possessive stalked victim love Pop had for Oat.

And despite Pree being Mo's brother( which isn't his fault yo you can't choose who you love or who you related to so calm down guys), I really think Pree and Pop are the best combo out of this thing and that no one should fault Pree for loving Pop when he did it first and his sister really doesn't anymore anyway. (I half think she hasn't for a long while, like I said her character clearly hates change and just letting go in general because of self-esteem issues. She def doesn't love Pop tho or why say the demeaning gross things she did when she was drunk?).

Ithink Pree and Pop ground each other and make each other better people. I really hope they keep this storyline as an open option for season two or I'm out. lol

In Conclusion My suggestions for Season 2:

I think Oat should stay brothers with Pop and realize Pop's mom can be enough of a mother for him that he doesn't need to suffocate and smother Pop in a desire to imprint and get a new mother., yes I said Imprint

I think Mo should get a backbone before she dates anyone else or it will end up the same mess it has right now, she needs to love herself first.

I think Rambo needs a few hundred smacks up the head and a trip to the desert, so he can find himself without his fathers approval hopefully offscreen and with no parts in the second season, thank you. (Also side note to those who say Rambo cheated, he didn't they were broken up, its called a break for a reason, as in you are not seeing each other anymore. -.- But honestly, his sleazy dumb move was waiting such a short time for Pree before he decided to be a walking horndog of bad decisions. so I really can't like him either way. But did he cheat... no, was what he did right... HELL TO THE N>O! Especially not if as he said before he "loved" and was ready to marry Pree. If he was, truly that wouldn't have happened.)

Pent should go to jail for his drugs, drinking and screwing around with minors when he has graduated Uni and shouldn't be touching babies. creepo. I think all the idiot's stewardess who were used for petty conflict to fill up drama episodes can go to jail and hell, they were useless in here anyway. Their roles were literally to fill the bitchy side girl narrative in this drama so it doesn't come off as too much gay. So we don't need them, in fact, they can bring back the funny adorable characters they removed for probably that very reason. Like why remove Jae he was fabulous, or the cook and loader who acted more feminine gay? What did they say heck we got 6guys liking other guys is this to much? Better tone it down quick get rid of the few guys who act too flamboyant we need macho and confused gay not soft, strong in who they already are gays we need conflict!)

Poor Nick needs to find himself someone who can care about more than their own image(Mo and Beauty) for more than a minute and love him as honestly as he will love them. And devote a good part of airtime to this he was a teddy bear.

And best of all I think Pree and Pop should live happily ever after sweetly loving each other as smart equals who push each other to be better people and strive after their dreams and their desires together. If I don't get this in season two for at least 10episodes Imma be angry, sad and probably stop watching hmmpph! (omg look I do a great Mo, Oat, and Beauty impression!)

Honestly unless your up for nonsensical dramaness(like really cute moments that really don't seem to fit in with the characters personalities, someone shoving their filthy armpits into your face on a bus so you can turn and gag then sniff someone else who is sweating(eeww and random I know)... or you know maybe you just wanna listen to the characters tell a story about a guy nailing a duck or whatever right 0.o)

This drama, it has weird cross-references to adoring and falling for someone because they force stalk you into being in love with them and they also make it seem like its the most believable thing to fall in love with someone simply because they remind you of your mommy. Like eeewww who wants to date their Mother? I get that you want to feel comforted and loved. That's totally normal and okay. But the moment you're naked with a guy and they are touching you and you flashback to your mom, yeah you need help dude!.

I can safely say if that ain't what your craving... well you can probably skip this drama and not be missing out on anything. However, I strongly suggest you find a Pree compilation on YouTube or just follow his hilarious mess of a channel with Art so you can see Mew its worth it!

And OMG this got long... Guess I had a ton to say. Hehehehe… Also FYI SPOILERS GUYS! as if it wasn't apparent lol. >.< sowwy!Comment Oh My Duck if you got to the bottom of this and smiled at least once while reading.

This drama is nothing groundbreaking. The story itself is very basic, but sometimes has enjoyable funny bits. I liked Oreo(Pop), because he was cute and had the biggest amount of those enjoyable funny bits. Also I was glad that Aim (Mo) redemeed herself as a girlfriend after watching her in Together with me. Because Plern Pleng really is it's own term in BL community.
On the other hand what was my biggest pet peeve and actually almost made me drop the drama was the character of Strong (Oat). Not only he was getting on my nerves by being annoying, my eye was twitching every time he was on screen and I really didn't get why he's doing the things he do most of the time, I also didn't like his acting. I think this is the only series where I hated one of the mains this much. I don't even exactly know why to this degree, but I just did.

Rambo/Pree couple was really hyped, but I think I didn't get it. Rambo made my blood boil even more than Oat and Pree would be better off with Pop (just like Pop would be better off with Pree and Rambo and Oat then can get together and copliment each others stupidity ). Frankly I didn't really know why everyone praised Mew (Pree) so much, but after watching TharnType I got it and I'm also on board (even tho I like Gulf even more).

I'm not really sure what more is there to say. The story is kinda enjoyable the moment you're watching it, but after you're done, you quickly forget it. If you skip it, you don't really miss too much, but it's okay as time killer when you're bored.

I'm just gonna say this real quick: this show got me into the BL hole that I shoved myself into.

I don't tend to write reviews, but I think this show both deserves and needs one. Firstly, hats off to whoever casted these actors, especially Oreo. They're all incredibly talented, and the couples all had the right type of chemistry. Oreo, specifically, deserves an award for his role. He successfully pulled off the "girly dude who says some dumb shit out of denial" type, and I am living for it. (He automatically became one of my favorite actors because of Pop).

For the storyline... It gets lost. Like, a lot. It's supposed to be simple, easy to understand, well thought out, but honestly, it just confused me. I feel like it had potential, but everything was just,,, slow, and Pree and Rambo tossed over this entire show. The main couple was supposed to be Oat and Pop, but that ship was underwhelming. The real plotline that's used in most websites doesn't even happen until the last episodes (being Pop's breakup). The rest of it seemed like a compilation of Oat and Pop's daily life, Pop;s girlfriend questioning his sexuality, and Rambo and Pree's long ass compilation of anger, lies, cheating, and tears. I couldn't write out a plot without having read one based on the actual episodes.

Oreo and Strong's chemistry really stood out, though, so I guess that's a plus?

The side couples always annoyed tf out of me though. Mo's relationship with Nick was so underdeveloped (no seriously, they got like 4 minutes of staring at each other and that's basically it). Pree and Rambo's story, let's just say, made me stressed. I hated them because Rambo made things way much harder than it was needed, and Pree acted like a broken stereo ("I don't love you anymore", "let's break up", "I'm tired of your behavior", that kind of thing). Also, even if it's a different scenario, it always starts and ends predictably: "let's get back together." "no." [insert extreme crying scenes here]. Kinda like they ran out of ideas.

Idk this wasn't it

Story
The story could have been cute and that is the only reason there is any points. Otherwise the story is kind of messed up. Like it was horrible and I actually hated the story line. The only good part of the story and the relationship was the food honestly.

Acting/Cast
The acting from the leads.......I know that it was probably their first but still it wasn't there. Only points for Mew and Art. (Controversial). The acting overall wasn't it.

Music
I like the title card music but the full OST ain't it. I don't know maybe i am weird but I wasn't feeling it.

Overall
Really thought it would be great but no. Watch it for Mew or just so you can say you have otherwise I don't like it. I haven't rewatched ever.

Honestly, I didn't initially wanna watch What The Duck because of its repulsive title. Thing is, upon watching the first episode, I got really excited because finally we got WORKING ADULTS for the story. The story itself, however, is poorly written, missing tons of opportunities to redeem its promising subplots. Instead, it relied on distractions to make a buzz.

All characters are flat, except perhaps Pree and Mo who somehow are as nearly three-dimensional as a human irl. Only the two of them actually bothered to become a human irl. Pop's character is the most disappointing, since he's got his character written initially as the most interesting. Oat is totally unneeded, if not unheathy, for the story. A heads up: he's there basically as a Male Lead, that's all. For a lengthy series for a BL, What the Duck failed to develop Oat's character that he just came off as annoying and a ridiculous third party you cannot even bother to sympathize. Rambo, while I initially thought he might just be there as a prop for making Pree a relatable character, he himself is an interesting character. Maybe a good thing what to unfold between him and Pree and season two, but don't hold your breath.

No qualms on acting tho, since most are good. Some actors need to be cut off to since their characters are useless to the story.

The music is okay, but not really since there's no real impact.

If you're a fan of lots of nonsense "aw they're so sweet" scenes, you'll love this. If you're a fan of a well-written story, skip this one.
