Loved it!

? it was very emotional but very beautifully made I really liked it! You should definitely give it a try. I loved the casting and the actors/actresses and the soundtrack is amazing.

This drama is the definition of right person wrong time. This will probably become one of my favourite historical kdramas.

The female lead was very interesting and cool I really liked her! I loved her confidence and her smile is so precious <3

The male lead was also very interesting and passionate about writing! I admired that he didn’t let anyone take away his love for writing even if he was forced to quit he still enjoyed and loved writing and didn’t let others change that.

BEAUTIFUL, AMAZING, AND SHORT DRAMA

This drama is a brilliantly made film. Despite being fairly short compared to regular K-dramas, this drama delivers so much emotion to viewers. The heartbreaking love story of the two leads is perfectly portrayed by the wonderful actor/actress, Lee Jong Suk and Shin Hye Sun. I was completely blown away with how expressive these two actors were, and truly they performed far better than what I had expected from them. I cried so hard, it was so beautiful. The acting was amazing and wow, the ending was something. I cant believe this was a true story, one of the best dramas ive ever seen. I liked it because the story and how the couple wanted to fight to be together, then at the end when they knew they had no option, they couldnt be together, and then they did what they did at the ENDING, which I wont spoil. I didnt dislike anything about it, as it is a true story. I loved the two actors they used for this drama, they did so well. Lee Jong Suk is so incredible in this drama, as it is a very short, sad one.

Sad, poignant.

Hymn of Death is a short (three episode) drama based on two real people — Sim Deok (Korea’s first soprano singer) and Woo Jin (playwright). The drama is set during the early 1920s, Japanese colonisation of Korea is the backdrop of the romance between these two talented artists. If you’re interested to learn more about the aspects of history, I wouldn’t say this is your drama to watch because it focuses mainly on the relationship which these two share. The beauty of this drama is that it managed to show the yearning and love Sim Deok and Woo Jin had for each other, a bond that transcends through time.

As the title suggests, it’s a tragic drama. The fact that these two people saw no other way to be together except through that one action. While the plot revolves around these two’s struggles, we do see very little of what it is to be a Korean, a woman, an artist forced to live a life dictated by others and the freedom to not share your art in your language.

It was great, but short

It was a touching story that taught me many things.

I liked the story since it was based on a true story and its meaning. I also liked that they showed both sides of the lives of the main characters - but they deserved more scenes. I didn't like that they chose death (they could have solved it in other ways), but they couldn't change what Kim Woojin and Shim Deok decided to do. At least they could have added more scenes of them - somewhere they skipped a few scenes to get to the most important parts. Also, Lee Jongsuk was acting good, but his character looked emotionless in a few scenes for me.

The music was perfect. I felt like I was also in the story. The backround music and OST added more emotions to it and also Shim Deok's singing was really good.

Anyways, the ending was good - I was teary at the last scenes. Unfortunately, it is a short story. I enjoyed watching it so I would welcome more episodes. I saw a bit of chemistry between them (even when there were not many scenes when they were together) so it was hard watching their pain and how they missed each other.

Will I rewatch it? I am not the rewatching type, but I won't mind rewatching it later. It is short so I won't spend much time and the story... you will see after watching it ^^

"We, people, are all selfish, but it doesn't mean that we are bad. We have to do our duties - but more importantly, we need to do things we love - to live."

"Even as I am living my heart longs for you. Until the moment of death, I will long for you."

Grab your tissues for this one. Hymn of Death is a tragic tale based on the real events of two people who fall in love during the Japanese occupation. It is a no holds barred emotional journey that will make you cry a waterfall of tears. It makes it even sadder knowing it is a true story.

The acting is phenomenal. There are only six episodes, each at thirty minutes long, but they pack a punch. I was drawn in immediately, and my heart wrenched with the storyline as it progressed. From the beginning, they let us know how it is going to end, so it was a bit like getting on a train when you know the tracks end abruptly. It follows the story of two young people who have almost no control of their lives due to outside circumstances, and only wish to be together to the end. There is so much longing conveyed in such a short time. The two main actors really gave their all on this one.

I recommend watching this as their story deserves to be known. The acting, cinematography, and music are amazing as well. When I eventually pick up the pieces of my heart, I am likely to watch this again.

Hymn of Death Korean

They each face their own personal difficulties when it comes to achieving their dreams and living their lives how they want to. He’s unhappily married and working in the family business after reluctantly following his father’s wishes while she struggles to support her poor family. Society and their families have definitely tied them down. Then when a romance sparks between them, even that becomes a forbidden love that stands in their way of happiness.

The mood of the drama is on the somber side with a melancholy feel and increasing sadness. Since it’s a short drama, we don’t get a whole lot of time to develop everything, but the story is thoughtful and well directed while being accompanied by some beautiful music with the soundtrack.

Hymn of Death Korean Drama - Lee Jong Suk and Shin Hye Sun

Lee Jong Suk and Shin Hye Sun were both very well cast in their roles. They gave moving performances that conveyed the struggles and heartaches each were feeling. Their lives were sad as roadblocks got in the way of their dreams and their love for each other.

It would have been nice to have more time to develop a story like this so I could get really emotionally invested, but overall Hymn of Death is a decent watch with enough good qualities to depict this tragic romance.

This is a short, sweet, poetic, heart breaking drama. At times, I did wish it had more episodes but looking back, it might have ruined the story by giving in too many details.

I started watching this because of Shin Hye sun but what drawn me more to the story is the fact that it was based on a true story. I have no idea why, but I do love me some tragic stories from time to time. I just find it so hauntingly beautiful.

I think the casting for this drama was 10/10. I really love Shin Hye Sun, she can pull off anything. Never imagined her to be with LJS but in all fairness, they look good together.

Aside from the story and actors in this drama one thing I did really like was how poetic it was. The ending poem is what struck me the most, it goes something like this:

"Are you truly living?
No, I am yearning for death in order to truly live."
From the poem
The Theory of Death and Life, 4 May 1926

I guess its because of all the things happening to us every day, we usually forget to live life. We over think a lot and that makes us miss on important things in life, and that's just sad if you really do think about it.

Please have a huge pack of tissues and possibly a shoulder to cry on

This drama is beautiful. Historically very accurate. Portrays the 1900s aesthetic very well. Good chemistry and excellent acting. I can't really say much because this drama was that perfect. It was surprisingly fast paced but in a good way. Sentimental scenes weren't dragged out unnecessarily. It was 3 hours of pure bliss. An excellent portrayal. Absolutely gives justice to Yun Sim deok and Kim U Jin. Since it's based on a real story I can't say much. The OSTs are excellent. After watching the drama, please check out the original Death Song by Yun Sim Deok. It's beautiful. You can practically hear the sadness in her voice. It will soon become a century old. It's beauty has been preserved through the times. The version of the Hymn of Death by Min Woohuk is also a must-watch. All the respective links are below.

Beautiful painful

When you read about the real story and you hear the voice of the real person soprano that recorded the song, this show takes another level: it hits you deep. I love Lee Jong Suk, and he made one of his best works here, in particular, the scene with his father. Highly recommended, short as it should, the essence of what could happen between this two lovers before they planned and agreed how tonend their story. Heartbreaking.

rip gg

The strongest points of this series are the scenery, costumes and classical music and songs used as soundtrack. It's all just beautiful.

The second strongest is the acting from FL, which was just amazing. You could feel her emotions in every little movement.

The mid point is the story. I know it was based on real life events, but I can't help but think that the main characters (especially the guy) could have avoided all of that if they made better, smarter choices along the way. However, once they arrived at certain point, I understand why they would prefer to rest rather then struggle and suffer more.

And the low point is the ML's acting which was wooden and completely failed to capture the emotional complexity of his character. I think he was cast for his face alone.

It is worth noting that I could immediately tell which characters are korean and which are japanese even before their nationalities were stated from the way they spoke japanese. Koreans kinda chained the words together like in korean language, while japanese made proper pauses between syllabes and words. I appreciate this detail.

the charecters were so utterly beautiful.

This drama is the definition of "short and sweet". It's about rebelling, not only against society and government, but also family. It felt like an inspiring drama about two characters who wanted to take control of their lives and do what their heart pleases than the people around them. The adultery part was a bit icky for me, but the circumstantial effect of the time period made it so that i could overlook it.
