For me both the drama and the movie had the same vibes..
Maybe its the sadness to it, or the music and female singers
And both are set during the period of Japanese occupation of Korea
I would recommend to watch both of them

It occured in the same era where Joseon is fighting for their liberation from the Japanese occupation. There you can see the iconic Carpe Diem where they frequent to. Both main characters have the nationalism in them, though in Chicago it is much strongly shown. Both male leads fights with their pens through writing literatures.

It gave off the same feels. Both have the idea of fighting against the Japanese occupation. Both have that forbidden love.

Both of these shows include star crossed lovers who just couldn't end of together. They also both had tragic endings.

This contains adultery but you won't hate this fact. Rather you would be rooting for them. Searching happiness is every person's right, and this is beautifully potrayed in this series.

Both dramas gave me similar vibes. Pachinko involves forbidden love like The Hymn of Death.
Both are set during the period of Japanese occupation in Korea.

Both are practically movies (THOD is mini series but has movie vibe). in both:

***Infidelity and love between people who are married/engaged.
***Tragic / forbidden love
***century ago time period (approximately)
***main plot is love/romance but also very well shown "war time" (in one Japanese occupation, in another Vietnam war)
***some dark vibe but also beautiful and great cinematography.
***amazing chemistry between leads.
***sexual relationship (though it's more shown in "obsessed" which is 18+ with amazing sex scenes)
***Both have POV from the ones who cheat and those relationships aren't shown as "bad thing", but both dramas also show what damage can this cause for them and people around them.

Both are true story. Korean movie during Japanese suppression. Both has romance. Both has strong male and female figures.

Both involve a sort of "forbidden love" and also have a very tragic romance plot, although Youth of May conveyed it more (personal opinion).

Tragedy and sad ending ..
good story and acting and better sweet moments that would take you with them and forget your reality for a moment ... Maybe it would touch your reality too sometimes !!!
They even have the same poster !!

They're kinda similar with the genre and tags

FL on The Hymn of Death is a professional suprano singer while in Luk Krung, ML is a great balladeer.

Both is Forbidden Love also and the Main and other Supporting Characters are very similar in many ways.

The diary tells the story of K and Cream, two orphans who journey through life and share experiences in sadness and joy together. However, K is diagnosed with fatal leukemia cancer. Knowing that Cream's biggest fear is to be left alone, K keeps the fact that he has terminal cancer a secret.

Both leads are expressing their fight for independence through various literary forms.

Both are set during the Japanese occupation in Korea.

In THoD, the romance is highlight between the leads, but in DJ, the friendship between the leads are much more showed.

Both are sad and based on true stories. (As it is indicated on the tags)
