Superb in every way

This is how to provide high quality and uncompromised tv series. It has back story, beginning, middle, and end. If this would have been adapted by western producers, they might have stretched it to 4 or 5 seasons/years.

The cast and crew gave their all. Sure the visual effects could have been better, some actors could have performed a bit more, final 15 episodes could have tightened the flow with more actions than just mostly revealing conversations. No show is perfect anyway.

The writers took advantage of the censorship and turned it into opportunity to be more creative and unique story telling.

Holy shit

This was the first cdrama I got into and HOLY SHIT this show gives me life! The acting impeccable! Each character is brought to life by the actors. The emotions are vivid and the details, the little small ones as well as the big ones are so INCREDIBLE!!! I know there are censorship laws but this shows delivers a good and healthy romantic setting without being in your face about it. There is just the perfect amount of angst, but also good parts. I adored this show so much!! I am currently rewatching it!! Hxkdjkd watch this show, it's AMAZING!!

MASTERPIECE

I started watching this last March and stopped after 1 ep since I kinda felt that it was a genre that is not my cup of tea however i tried reading it offline and was amazing. The book and the series are 2 different things, there are similar however you can go along stand alone. I watched it without knowing the main leads and such and just watched it purely for the storyline. I really enjoyed it, the story, the character development and soundtrack, and the effects. This has made my summer amazing and unforgettable.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!! GO WATCH IT NOW!!

I have come back to edit my stupid comment from a few months ago! This drama does not deserve any critics from me!

I LOVED this drama so much that I have started writing fanfictions, created a tumblr just to be apart of this fandom!!! It has been months since I've watched it, but I'm still going through fanfics after fanfics trying to fill the hole that this drama has left behind in my heart! There was never a moment where I felt that the story was getting boring or going downhill... Every single person in the entire cast is very handsome and beautiful and this made the drama totally worth it!
The bromance (ROMANCE, FUCK YOU CENSORSHIP!) between the 2 leads was just too much for my poor heart to handle.. The real story is supposed to be a BL but this stupid Chinese Government just can't let us enjoy some romance... Although there weren't any heartwarming hugs and kisses, if you looked closely you would find certain moments between the main leads that's just too precious... The directors and producers have done a wonderful job at canceling the romance with bromance! But the hoe in me needed some romance and I ended up looking for the novel... I read the last few chapters which focused on the love between Wei Wu Xian and Lan Zhan and it's safe to say that it was like a much needed Fanfiction after an amazing drama...
Xiao Zhan who played WWX is sooo beautiful... His smile is everything! And Wang Yi Bo, good Lord! I still can't believe that dork managed to pull of a complex character like Lan Wang Ji! I've truly got not words! The drama has very few female characters but every single woman in this drama was absolutely stunning and they've done justice to their characters! Actually, all the actors have done justice to their characters and the drama! And I've become such a fan of Liu Haikuan and his character Lan Xi Chen, that I am completely bonkers for him! And Jiang Cheng is my favorite character too!

The title of the drama The Untamed is also well suited as the entire story wouldn't have happened if the main lead wasn't untamed! Go Wei Wuxian!!!
Overall it was an amazing journey and I'm glad to have witnessed it.. 10/10

I can't rate a lot of shows a 10 but this show deserves an 11. I absolutely enjoyed it and was completely captivated by it. It is 50 episodes which are all about an hour-long but it is definitely worth the time. I binged watched the shit out of this, can ask my best friend she barely saw me while I watched it. I was so sad when I finished it I wanted the story to continue. I know it is based on books but I never read them so I had no idea what this was about going into it and omg the roller coaster this takes you on. The story was so interesting and the casting was amazing. I love Yibo with all my heart and he did amazing in this. The chemistry between the characters is showstopping, you don't even feel like you are watching a fictional tv show you get so invested. Please watch!!!!!

The Untamed tells the story of two soulmates, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian, who navigate the xianxia world to solve a murdery mystery as well as clearing Wei Wuxian's name. Based on the BL novel Mo Dao Zu Shi, the Untamed is a new adaptation of the novel.

The show is split into two time periods differing by 16 years. We first get to see how Wei Wuxian and co. grow up during a time of war and persecution. We see how Wei Wuxian abandons the "righteous path" and chooses demonic cultivation. The 16 years ago arc is the tragic one, a very painful one filled with broken promises, massacre and necromancy. Not many characters make it out alive. Then we jump to 16 years after, where Wei Wuxian is resurrected, reunited with Lan Wangji and partners with him to solve a murder mystery. It is much more lighthearted and warm, especially since we get to see Lan Wangji make good on his vow to trust Wei Wuxian and be by his stand. Despite China's censorship, Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo do an amazing job of portraying the relationship between the two male leads. The expressions, actions and intonations (thanks to the voice actors!) all imply the depth of Lan Wangji's devotion to Wei Wuxian and vice versa.

The music score is beautiful. The theme song, Wuji, is played throughout the show but in different versions - the actual song, a piano instrumental, a dizi version and a cello version. Each instrumental evokes a different emotion, depending on the scene. There are also other pieces of music which, if you listen to it on its own, you can immediately pinpoint which scene was taking place during the song. Lin Hai (the composer) has done a great job of creating the OST.

The Untamed is by far my favourite drama of all time. It is the kind of drama that you want to immediately rewatch after finishing the finale.

Because it is so good in everyway.i didn’t skip any part from beginning to end.first I thought this will be boring without female lead.but finally I surprised this was the best even without female lead. Wang yibo also really good actor.

Hey you! Yeah you there! Watch it!

Ok I wanted to wait a minute before making this review. I needed to make sure that I would accurately convey my thoughts on this drama. So warning this will be long and spoilery- ish(?).First thing first,to answer the question of the small percentage of people who have not watched this drama:Should I watch this drama? This answer is: yes, a very loud, enthusiastic yes. This drama easily ranks as one of the best tv shows I’ve ever watched. I would highly recommend you to watch it.
I watched this drama in sections because first of all, it’s long. Sooo long. But do not let stop you from watching it if your like me and detest long dramas.Second of all, I needed to take breaks from my frequent heart burn. Trust me it wasn’t my diet.

I’ve never fallen so hard for a MC as I did Wei Wuxian. He is the opposite of a character I would typically like. He’s an extroverted character whose loud and a little bit obnoxious. Honestly if I had met him at the beginning I might have punched him. But as he grew and matured , he grew on me.He has many admirable traits that an audience likes to see:humility , selflessness , and a deep care for others. I prayed to whatever god to not make him a male Mary Sue. And these prayers were answered. Thank you author, the man has flaws!I was so thankful that he was not portrayed to be the perfect character who can do no wrong. This made him all the more real to me. It made me care for his character deeply.
I have also never fallen so hard for a second male lead as I have fallen for Lan Wangji. Even if it could not be portrayed as clearly as it should have because of Chinese censorship, you can see and feel how much he cares for Wei Wuxian. Man, I need someone to be as loyal to me as he is loyal to Wei Wuxian. Seriously, his loyalty knows no bounds. The character trait that he has that him and Wei Wuxian share that I like is that that they both stand up for what they believe in. It’s an admirable trait that I hope to now carry into my real life. The only problem I have with Lan Wangji is that he does not have any real flaws. Correct me if I’m wrong. I might have missed something( I haven’t watched it in like seven months.)I guess you could argue his flaw is his loyalty to Wei Wuxian, which led to pain in his life. But you could also argue that this is a strength because in the end he is given happiness because of it.
One last character I want mention before moving on to the plot is Jiang Cheng. Dear reader, give him a chance! I see a lot of you dogging on Jiang Cheng. I get it. So much of his actions in the plot lead you to dislike him. But even if the actors acting wasn’t fantastic. I liked Jiang Cheng. I feel like he is so misunderstood and hated on because he caused Wei Wuxian a little pain. Which of course makes total sense. But didn’t Wei Wuxian as well? What I like about Jiang Cheng is that he is so human and real. I related to his character so much. I feel like if I was in his place I would have done similar actions. Regrettably, of course. But this makes me wonder how people’s views would change if Jiang Cheng were the MC. I bet you some of you would sympathize with him because his story is tragic as well.
I enjoyed the main villain(?)as well. There is the obvious villain but there is also hinting at a less obvious villain that is fantastically portrayed.
The plot I enjoyed. Who wouldn’t like men with swords attempting to save the world? Give me more. They took out some of the stuff from the book due to censorship’s I believe but I think it’s still pretty solid. Also this drama introduced me to the whole cultivation world which I find very interesting. It’s a plot I have not seen a million times and it’s enjoyable.
The music I enjoyed well enough. People dog on the music but I honestly I don’t think it’s too bad.The emotions I think we were meant to feel were amplified because of it.
The drama itself does have its flaws. One major thing for me was that some of the actors acting showed that they were not well seasoned actors.
The costume design and hair was okay at best for me.
Some of the CGI, whew honey.
But overall all a fantastic drama I will never forget: due to how much heartburn it caused me(but also it’s endearing characters).

perfect

This series, like gum, is PERFECTION. I will never get over it.
I can't say anything that has not been said before. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji stole my heart and I love them unconditionally. Jiang Chang, eh, I could live without, but my sister insists he's a poor misunderstood soul...
I love that they not only followed the book but improved it. I love that the romance gets through even despite censorship issues. I love that all, and I mean all, the characters are complex and their relationships even more so. I love that the main actors were cast perfectly and I couldn't imagine anyone else in their place.
If you only watch one series in your life, it should be this one.

The characters details were portrayed delicately. Every scene, every facial expression, every line was important. Honestly if you paid attention to every detail since the 1st episode, you could probably figure out the person behind all of it. Anyways, there wasn't too much focus on the side characters, but there was enough screen time to make you feel attached to them. IMO the actors and actresses were chosen well for each character. The storyline itself is very beautiful in its own nature, and as other have said, nothing is black and white in this drama. Its mostly cause and affect, to watch the characters grow, the way the characters developed were smooth, and it is noticable.
Omg I love their clothing, it's so pretty, the sets were amazing and the CGI wasn't too horrible.
Tbh this is my first C-drama, I was drawn to watch it because many The Untamed crack vids came up on my YouTube feed. I don't like watching dramas longer than 20 episodes but this drama kept me hooked till the end. I have also never had a drama that would make want to read the novel, to do a rewatch marathon and also watch the breakdown on the scenes.

This drama doesnt deserve its high rating.

If you dont like BL, dont even have the thoughts of trying to watch it.

If you like Wuxia, please no. You will just get dissappointed.

Good story? Nice plots? And Twist? Not on par of the ratings.

Even the actions or fight choreography. Man it was so bad, I thought this was a comedy. I am not even hoping for a IP Man like choreos but I am really so dissappointed on this.

Some will defends this drama becoz this one have familial love, friendship, character driven nonsense and shits. No, it was not on par of the ratings.

Many will get butthurt becoz of my review and I am willing to be the sacrifice so that you all will not be wasting your time on this.

This is a rant. Yes. But I want to make this a WARNING to all of those who is hesitant to watch this drama. Take your time and decide.

I know I write this before somewhere but I will write it down again, this drama got my heart, and it was over my expectations, its the first Chinese drama I watched from this type (Wuxia) and I LOVE it... The plot, cast, music, the scenery and customs, everything amazed me and makes me go "WoooooW~ This is Awesome~"...Even my phone wallpaper is changed to WWX & LWJ LoL....XD

I hate that it will end although there is still more episodes to watch, but good thing that it will end before my university start or I will face difficulties in watching it, I will hold my assignments until I finish watching the episode LoL, And I am actually planing to see it again, because really this drama is interesting and I want to keep watching it until the end...^^

Thanks to the drama cast and the drama directors and everyone who works to make this amazing Drama, Wo Ai Ni~ ^3^
