Worth to watch for bl fan

Found this hidden gem 2 days ago and I have to say this drama deserved to get more recognition and popularity.
Set in the Republican-era, this crime thriller drama revolves around the bromance between a hot temper police chief (Jiang Yue Lou) and a kind heart doctor (Chen Yu Zhi). Story about two men with opposite character : one kills, while the other heals, killer and healer.

Mao Zi Jun did a great job portraying Jiang Yue Lou character, he is an uptight police officer in Jing City that hate opium dealer the most because his family was torn apart all thanks to the opium. He has been a loner his entire life and doesn’t trust people easily except for his adoptive father : Commisioner Bai Jin Bo, but Yu Zhi changed it all. He became a happy camper whenever Yu Zhi is around, even his subordinate realize this. All Yue Lou's unbridled desire and affection for Yu Zhi were portrayed well just from the way he look at Yu Zhi, those long gaze and deep yearning when they met again after life and death experience say it all. Chen Yu Zhi as a compassionate doctor who is righteous and kind with his calm and soft demeanor also well portrayed by Ian Yi. Their relationship was so solid and build from a mutual respect and utmost trust for each other thus it make no room for misunderstanding and I think this made the show more likeable to watch.

Well now, let's talk about the second couple. While the main couple was a pure and selfless type relationship that promote a positive vibe , the second couples was a nerve wrecking relationship. I love both actors who play these 2 roles : Chen Yu Cheng as the heartless and ruthless Zhan Jun Bai and Patrick Quan as an elegant and sophistiscated opera singer Boss Yu. Jun Bai was a character that never let anyone to hinders his goal, but unexpectedly he was drawn to Boss Yu kind and caring character. Both of them have hidden agenda when approaching each other, but it develop into a new stage when Boss Yu take the blow for Jun Bai. He takes Boss Yu as the first person whom he consider as his friend, because nobody has ever show this kind of care for him. Their relationship turns toxic when they learn each other’s true identities and both actors did really well when portraying this twist and turn event. I wonder if patrick Quan was really an opera singer, his soft and gentle demeanor with a little bit of feminine touch really made you believe this is his true nature.

All the elements in this drama are perfect : the story, acting, casts, set and musics. The song play in the background was so beautiful and match well with the scenes, that will give you a melancholy feeling upon hearing it. If you can handle the angst and devastating feeling with the ending, then this show should be on your watchlist.

This show must get more recognition and that's why i write this review so you wont miss this hidden gem

out with a bang

Wow... Never expected I can watch more obvious BL than Word Of Honor comes from c-dramaland. The long lingering eye in Jiang Yue Lou (YL) & Chen Yu Zhi (YZ) also Zhan Jun Bai (JB) & Yu Tang Chun are speak louder than any word can describe. Haha.... How many times I wished this come from another country, so we can get more intimate interaction between our boys... Haha... I lost count to how many times I really want to scream to my screen Kiss please kiss, when I see how YL see 'his' YZ... Haha...

But unfortunately this drama still has it's own plot holes:
- A little doesn't make sense how easy Bai Jin Bo change side.
- A little too easy to overruled the plan that JB & his uncle already arrange
- A little too hasty for Chu Ran's planning to married JB, I know their time is very limited, but still too hasty if I may say & that's why everything just fall cramble after that
- Why must they leave YL in the end all alone....???

The saddest part is how in the end we see how lonely YL is with no one beside him. This drama really leave big hole in my heart. Really hope we can get a happy ending for our boys. But I can't say this kind of ending suck & ruin the whole drama, maybe for you who really really hate sad ending.

!!!! Warning!!!Full fledged Romance between two boys disguise as Bromance

⭐Chinese Drama Review ⭐
Killer And Healer is directed by Sam Ho (director of Immortality).

Mydramalist Rating 8.5/10
My score 10/10

If you like Mystery Crime Thriller with two boys intensely looking at each other and caring for each other then you should watch this drama. And Bonus gift no annoying stereotypical female representation 😀

About the Drama- This is my version of it. The polar opposite guys meet coincidentally and embark on a journey to make Jing city drug-free and make people's lives better. Jiang Yea lou is a Chief police officer of the anti-drug brigade is not a good or evil person with bipolar disorder and Chen Yuzhi a very passionate doctor wants to treat every patient regardless of their oppression. They share the same vision for making people's life easier and healthy. With lots of up and down but their bond becomes stronger than any blood relationship.

My review - Historical Romantic thriller disguised as a Historical Mystery crime thriller. This drama is set in the Chinese republic era when the opium business took over the town. The whole drama's vintage aesthetic look makes it more pleasing to watch.

OTS, Acting, Production, and everything else are so good that you will come back, again and again, to live with Yelou and Yuzhin.
There is no scarcity of Romance, Bromance, Love, friendship, and sacrifice. Just name it you will find everything.

P.S- This drama is full of Fudanshis 😍
P.S.S- Read the whole review on my Blog. Link in bio.

Trigger Warnings lots of Death, Betrayal, Torture, Revenge, Unrequited love, Full of fudnashis, Everyone falls for ML, And Sad ending.

If you don’t like all of this then don’t watch. It’s an original work and cut/ trimmed scenes are available separately, BTS and all this about them you will find it on Youtube.

Have you watched this one yet? What did you think of it? If you have any similar kind of recommendation then feel free to recommend me in the comments.

too much melodrama

I started watching this with high expectations... partly met by the gorgeous team of actors, especially the 2 ML's, who are so good-looking and versatile. Still after 15 episodes or so - the series being way too long anyway - i started to get bored with the repetitive actions. Our BL protagonists have little screen time together, though their scenes are the highlight of the drama. In the second half of the series, we hardly see them together.
The tragic factor is too obvious, you clearly see this is to become a tearjerker, though it had some funny characters/scenes in the beginning - but important characters started to die left and right, ruining the balance. So i stopped watching it right before the end, since i had the feeling it offered me everything i wanted to see in terms of passion, chivalry, bromance, love, action, revenge etc. Might pick it up another time for a sense of completeness...
Many handsome faces, and special mention to the evil character, who comes off as the most rounded and totally takes the screen. The shady policeman too, keeps a fine balance to all the tragedy!
Great quality drama, too bad the scriptwriter lacked the sparkle.

just watch it if you want to see a policeman and a doctor have the most awkward sexual tension. you will feel like a ping pong ball during an olympic level ping pong match. .. ur head will hurt. you might trip and fall after watching a few episodes from the sheer mental exhaustion.

anyways. yuzhi is the best i give him a big kiss on the forehead. mwahhhhh! my dear doctor <3 we love you yuzhi! i’m just trying to reach the 500 word limit rn. jin dacheng was a freak btw you will either hate him or you will HATE him but regardless he will curse your mind. everyone sucks ass but at the same time they don’t. i hated yu tongchen’s gay ass. i loved fu cheng’s gay ass. i went in with nothing and left with nothing.

I was unsure about the reviews regarding this drama, whether it was inflated due to the bromance (BL tend to rate higher on MDL due to biased views), but it was only a small aspect of it. Sure the eye candy helped, but what carried the drama are the intricate plot, the actor's strong performances, and the world building. The characters, even the secondary and villainous, are multi-dimensional. Sure there maybe some plot holes, but if you do not over-think the drama like I do, it is an entertaining watch.

Good actor

The story and actors are very good. The story is about good cop amd good foctor ..they make a good relationship and frirnship..the story has good background music . The actors are so good in acting especially mao zijun or jiang yilou. The story are good in each episode.
The ost or song are good .A story that follows two men who are polar opposites, one kills, while the other heals. One is a violent cop and the other is a compassionate doctor. Together they support and redeem each other during troubled times. The story revolves around a "violent and tough" policeman Jiang Yue Lou and a "gentle and kind" doctor Chen Yu Zhi who support each other through tumultuous times in the republican era.

Jiang Yue Lou, who heads the Jingcheng Police Station, appears to be neither good nor evil. Smugglers tremble at the thought of him. While investigating an opium case in Hong Kong, Jiang Yue Lou encounters doctor Chen Yu Zhi. Chen Yu Zhi discovers that Jiang Yue Lou has manic depression. From his initial refusal to undergo treatment, Jiang Yue Lou eventually opens up to Chen Yu Zhi. Despite their values being as different as day and night, they become close friends. Meanwhile, warlord Zhan Jun Bai, tycoon Zhao Jing Ming and rogue gangster Zhou Huo continue to make trouble and even attempt to put Jiang Yue Lou to death. At this time, the secrets from the past also rise to the surface.

Very good story though the ending seems rushed

Maybe the title of the series should have been Cop and Healer rather than Killer and Healer, but I guess Killer and Healer has a nicer ring to it.

The story of how a Republican-era policeman and a doctor come together and work against the illegal opium trade in their city, linked to a conspiracy to stage a coup, is compelling. Instead of relying too heavily on "shocking" plot twists that some may find predictable, the series prepares the audience from the start for certain revelations about the identity of the masterminds behind the conspiracy while making the possibilities open enough to keep us guessing. The story is thus presented with aplomb.

As an adaptation of a BL novel, the series plays safe and largely erases the BL between the two main characters, Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi. At times, this appears a little schizophrenic. While we see the characters referring to each other as brothers (the bromance sort of brothers), we also see a hint of a romantic relations when Chu Ran (who is in love with Yuelou) see the two of them together and seem to understand that she does not stand a chance.

Comparatively, the relationship between Zhan Junbai and the opera singer, Boss Yu, is full of homosexual innuendo that is cleverly depicted, with them singing the opera, Farewell My Concubine, together and with allusions to historical figures like Dong Xian and Emperor Ai. Despite how Zhan later uses the word "friend" to describe how he treats Boss Yu, the affections he displays seem more like romantic love. Perhaps it was less of a risk to place such innuendo in the supporting characters.

Unless you are watching it solely for BL, the series tells a very good story. The only part I find disappointing in the ending -- both the original ending and the alternative happy ending versions. In the last episode, the masterminds of the conspiracy are too easily defeated. In a different story, it would likely have been fine. However, for a series that relies very heavily on the resourcefulness of the villain, the ending appears a little too rushed and sudden. Spoiler:

In the original ending, the villain is shot to death after killing one of the main characters while, in the alternative ending, the villain is caught before that can happen (this is simply narrated through an intertitle), Given the way the villain is portrayed as a ridiculously cautious person with a knack for hatching elaborate plots and a very calm disposition, the way he suddenly appears to shoot one of the main characters in public seems a little off character even when he is already driven to desperation. As for the alternative ending, the way he is caught is not even shown. I'm not sure if the original ending is faithful to the novel, but if liberties are to be taken with the source material, I would rather have the villain dying after being defeated--even if it is by suicide (since he seems to be prepared for every possible scenario anyway).

One thing I really love about this series is Mao Zijun's performance in this series as Jiang Yuelou. He very much brings the character to life by coherently portraying the different aspects of the character. He manages to seamlessly bring together the many facets of the character he plays: a cop with an uncompromising sense of righteousness, a man with emotional issues and hiding the childhood trauma he has undergone, a lonely man who wishes his cat would live a few more years to keep him company, a remorseful person who has failed to do something when a girl is kidnapped, an occasional playful grown-up and even a socially inept person who would simply ask a woman whether she likes him when the idea is suggested to him. (And more.) I can imagine how a different actor would have made the one person seem like many different characters instead.

Despite the somewhat disappointing ending, the series is really compelling throughout. I kept finding myself surprised by how quickly each episode seems to end. It's hard to stop after you start watching it.

Good show, amazing characters and chemistry between them, unexpected turn of events

I came for the bromance, and I was not disappointed. Not only do the main leads have amazing chemistry (there loving stares and touches) but the story is also really good!! It had a lot of turns that were unexpected. The supporting roles were also played really well. They all had interesting relations to each other, and had a dynamic growth.

Mayor spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!: Halfway it starts to get a bit heart-breaking, because they start killing of characters. They were not afraid to do so! Only one of the main leads and one of the supporting characters remain at the end. The last episode is brutal.

The casting of the various characters in the drama was perfect. The casting director/team has done a commendable job.

The drama was really good and did well until episode 24.In this episode Jiang Yue Lou learns about Chen Yu Zhi's death after being shot by him.He apparently is feeling guilty and is appearing to be sad while drinking .In the resulting scenes talking aloud by himself he says that he wouldn't let Yu Zhi die in vain and that after everything was over he would go find him to 'apologize'. Is he serious. This is actually quite selfish and inhuman of him. So he will make undercover plans with his superior and use an innocent civilian to prove himself for it and when the person dies he thinks he can get away with it by just an apology. That was blatant misuse of his position. So if Yu Zhi had really died Jiang planned to just say a sorry at his grave and carry on normally with his life and his promoted position in his job happily ? He would have enjoyed a marriage with Chu Ran and lived like an innocent and upright officer. What a selfish and conceited person .He should have thought to turn himself in after the completion of the mission and to accept legal punishment by law. He was shown as a righteous cop until then. But this ruined everything. Did he really think that he should have gotten away with what he had done.
At the end actually it was he who deserved to die and not Chen Yu Zhi. But alas the good ones die early and wicked and evil people like Jiang Yue Lou outlive everyone.

The best series (at least for me)

I would really recommend this one. I feel in love with it and it totally changed something in me. I even like it more than Word of honor, Untamed, and so on..
❤️Dont forget to read the novel too, but unfortunately, the translation is not completed. Only to chapter 27.

More (+)
Acting is on point, in the series its really beautifully done. Even tho, they didint touched each other much (only in cut scenes) you can still feel the love between charcters.
Also to not forget to mention, in the novel you will get more hugs and even a kiss (but not really a full legit kiss).
The scenes and angles of the cameras are shot beautifully. Everything is very sophisticated. It can be seen that the staff probably had a good budget.
Also.. The music, which was sang by the main actor. (the main theme song) I listen to it, even to this day. It is still in my playlist.

Go and watch it!!

Underated gem!

*Slams hand against table* Now that's the good stuff!

As much as I liked "Word of Honor", I feel like this show didn't get the attention it deserves. The two shows can't be compared as the two are very different, the only thing in common is the bromance that is based on a BL novel. However, WoH overshadowed "Killer and Healer" in viewing charts, though both shows had great chemistry between the main leads. Dr Chen and Jiang Yuelou had one of the best chemistry on screen, they are my no. 1 CP on 2021. I think among all the danmei I wantched, they were the main lead couple that I loved (yeah, not a wangxian shipper, they suck, wenzhou are good, I like them but not as much as... JiangChen? what is the ship's name? asking for a fanfi-I meant friend). The way their relationship was developed was written so well, something that 90% of c-dramas fail to do.

I loved almost all characters. I think Chu Ran is the only one I had problems with regarding the acting- it feels like she saved the acting ability to the scenes in the last episodes. She was too robotic, but somehow it didn't pull me off from the plot. I do think the guy who plays Zhan Junbai looks a bit too soft for his role, but not something that bothered me. Also, I recognize the actor of Boss Yu from the romance of tiger and rose, he fits the role of a gentleman. I love the man. Jin Dacheng was a character whom I didn't think much at first, but he was so awesome (and may I say even good-looking) in the last episode. I don't like comissionr Bai and his attitude towards his wife, but the actors were great.

The music was great, it was beautiful.

The story is good. I think it's better than WoH cuz in this series I didn't skip much (there was one or two scenes that I skipped). There were times the story was a bit weak, but overall I was drawn to the show. I think there were episodes I didn't feel the time was passing by, I was that engaged.

I think the show is worth of your time
